Enhancing Sustainability Through Test Point Optimization in PCBA Production Testing

    No full text
This thesis explores the principles of circular economy in production test environment, aiming to enhance sustainability without sacrificing product quality. Focusing on Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) testing, the study investigates four key areas: modular and reusable Bed-of-Nails (BoN) fixture designs; dynamic power management using smart relays; alternative test methodologies; and test point optimization based on schematic analysis and historical failure data. Through a detailed review of eight commercial PCBA designs and associated yield records, the research demonstrates that approximately 30% of existing test points can be removed without diminishing diagnostic effectiveness resulting in simpler fixtures and shorter test cycles. Modular fixtures present advantages in terms of material efficiency and reusability. However, their adoption within Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) is limited by the high initial engineering requirements, lack of standardized interfaces, and the necessity for operator training. Although smart relay based power gating is technically implementable, it offers limited economic incentives under prevailing energy rates. Similarly, Boundary Scan and Flying Probe Testing provide valuable flexibility for small-batch and prototype testing but cannot match the throughput of optimized fixture-based methods in high-volume production. Based on the research outcomes, this thesis proposes actionable engineering strategies, including the prioritization of test points, the standardization of modular fixture designs, and the implementation of targeted power management approaches aimed at embedding circular economy concepts into end-of-line testing processes. By doing so, it advances UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.5, driving down electronic waste, preserving valuable resources, and strengthening the durability of test-system infrastructure

    No full text
This study was conducted by Elin Carlsson and Jonna Wennerström at Halmstad University during their sixth semester in 2025. The increasing use of AI in working life may lead to changes and restructuring in both contemporary and future school leadership. Therefore, this study aims to identify the competency requirements that school leaders need to develop in order to meet the emerging AI development. The study also seeks to explore school leaders’ attitudes toward using AI as a potential collaborative partner in their daily work, which may entail both opportunities and challenges. The study is based on a qualitative research design, and empirical data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The results indicate that school leaders tend to prefer human collaborators, due to AI’s perceived limitations in supporting and replicating the "human" aspects of school leadership. At the same time, there is a strong belief in AI’s potential as a future partner, especially in relieving administrative tasks to free up time for more value-creating work. Combining human abilities with technological knowledge is considered crucial for addressing the new demands that arise from the increasing integration of AI into school leadership. Finally, the results highlight that for AI to serve as a fully capable partner in school leadership, it must possess contextual understanding, as well as intuitive and emotional intelligence

Design of an Interactive Learning Module for Doppler Radar Signal Processing

    No full text
This thesis discusses the development and evaluation of a real-time radar-based speed estimation system that uses the Infineon Sense2GoL Pulse radar module. The main goal was to explore Doppler-based motion detection techniques and show their educational value through organized signal processing and visualization. The system captured ten frames of raw in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) radar echo signals from moving targets; each frame contained 256 samples. These were acquired and stored in MATLAB via serial communication. Signal processing took place frame by frame, starting with Hamming windowing to reduce spectral leakage, followed by a 512-point Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to extract Doppler frequency components. To improve motion-specific information, low-frequency static clutter around the DC region was removed. Doppler peaks were identified using spectral thresholding, and the corresponding frequencies were converted to speed estimates using a standard Doppler equation. The system reliably detected both approaching and receding motions within the expected range of human gesture speeds. All data were visualized in MATLAB to provide a clear and educational demonstration of radar signal transformation from the time to the frequency domain. The results confirmed the reliability of the Doppler-based approach under controlled conditions and emphasized the system’s effectiveness as a teaching tool for fundamental radar signal processing concepts.Master’s thesis presented as part of the requirements for the Master’s Programme in Electronics Design, Halmstad University.</p

Newly graduated nurses emotional experiences of being new in the professional role : A general literature review

    No full text
