    No full text
International audienceThis paper presents and examines an experimental football training program providing original and articulated uses of digital technologies to support collective actions learning. Jointly designed by researchers and trainers, these uses are conceptualized from a specific theoretical framework. A transformative research protocol in two phases was therefore implemented with three football coaches engaged in the UEFA A-grade Football Coaching course. Firstly, the training phase consisted in training these three coaches to design, teach, supervise learning and evaluate collective actions by using digital technologies. Secondly, the intervention phase consisted in involving the coaches in the deployment of this experimental football training program in their own coaching context. Using self-confrontation interviews with coaches and re-enactments interviews with players, this research analyses their activities during this intervention phase. The results highlight that, under specific conditions, digital technologies can constitute cognitive technologies as they can sustain and enrich coaches’ activities, as well as those of the players, faced with the complex nature of collective actions.

Joint Use of Thermal Characterization and Simulation of AlGaN/GaN High-Electron Mobility Transistors in Transient and Steady State Regimes to Estimate the Hotspot Temperature

    No full text
International audienceChannel temperature has a strong impact on the performance of a microwave power transistor. In this paper, various methods, including electrical measurements, optical analysis, and FEM simulations, were employed to perform both transient and steadystate thermal characterization of GH15 2 × 150 µm transistors from UMS foundry (United Monolithic Semiconductors, France). The transient study allowed for the extraction of thermal time constants according to which the temperature in the transistor changes. The steady-state study provided the hotspot temperature. As the channel is physically inaccessible, direct thermal measurement at the hotspot is not possible, in order to extract the temperature of this hotspot, different measurement methods are combined by simulation, which is calibrated based on the measurements, resulting in a well-adjusted thermal model. This calibrated model enabled the extraction of temperature at any location within the device's structure, particularly at the hotspot. The measurement and simulation results have shown that the hotspot temperature can be 30% higher than the temperature of the nearest external surface for high dissipated power levels

Between 2011 and 2015, the commemorations of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War provided an opportunity to observe the dynamism of the study of the conflict in the United States, but also to take stock of a new history of the confrontation, one conceived over the long term, within an Atlantic framework, and with an approach that links it to the nation-state building dynamics observable during the 19th century. In this context, the press played a significant role in the ideological conduct of the war, which we propose to study here. Within the Mississippi Valley, a border area fractured by Secession, the objective of this work is to observe the storytelling of information, the way in which it is processed, editorialized, and sometimes didacticized, to convince the readership of the conflict's legitimacy and to ensure popular support for the war. This was achieved, in particular, through the use and staging of new information technologies, such as the telegraph, but also by maintaining more traditional forms of news processing, under the prism of partisan intent. War correspondence, political editorials, foreign news, and crime stories were used to serve the realization of an ideological and national project by newspapers that proudly displayed their political positioning.

The KELT-7b atmospheric thermal-inversion conundrum revisited with CHEOPS, TESS, and additional data

International audienceContext . Early theoretical works suggested that ultrahot Jupiters have inverted temperature-pressure (T–P) profiles in the presence of optical absorbers, such as TiO and VO. Recently, an inverted T–P profile of KELT-7b was detected, in agreement with the predictions. However, the diagnosis of T–P inversions has always been recognized to be a model-dependent process. Aims . We used the Characterising Exoplanet Satellite (CHEOPS), the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), and additional literature data to characterize the atmosphere of KELT-7b, rederive the T–P profile, provide a precise measurement of the albedo of KELT-7b, and search for a possible distortion in the precise CHEOPS transit light curve of the planet. Methods . We first jointly fitted the CHEOPS and TESS data and measured the occultation depths in these passbands. The CHEOPS transits were also fitted with a model including the gravity-darkening effect. Emission and absorption retrievals were performed to characterize the atmosphere of KELT-7b. The albedo of the planet was calculated in the CHEOPS and TESS passbands. Results . When adopting a thermochemical-equilibrium atmospheric composition, the emission retrievals return a non-inverted T–P profile, in contrast with previous results. When adopting a free-chemistry atmospheric parameterization, the emission retrievals return an inverted T-P profile with – likely unphysically – high concentrations of TiO and VO. The 3D general circulation model (GCM) supports a TiO-induced temperature inversion. We report for KELT-7b a very low geometric albedo of A g = 0.05 ± 0.06, which is consistent with the heat distribution ϵ being close to zero and also consistent with a 3D GCM simulation, using magnetic drag ( τ drag = 10 4 s). Based on the CHEOPS photometry, we are unable to place any meaningful constraint on the sky-projected orbital obliquity. Conclusions . The choice of a free-chemistry approach or a thermochemical-equilibrium chemistry is the main factor determining the retrieval results. Free-chemistry retrievals generally yield better fits; however, assuming free chemistry risks adopting unphysical scenarios for ultrahot Jupiters, such as KELT-7b. We applied a coherent stellar variability treatment on TESS and CHEOPS observations, commensurate with the known stellar activity of the host star. Other observations of KELT-7b would also benefit from a coherent stellar variability treatment
