Feasibility of Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC) in a Rabbit Model of Peritoneal Metastases: PIPALIM Project
International audienceAbstract Background Animal models are essential for testing new pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC) protocols; however, no immunocompetent animal model of peritoneal surface malignancies (PSMs) treated with PIPAC has been established. This study evaluated the feasibility, safety, and oncological efficacy of PIPAC in a rabbit PSM model. Methods The study was conducted in two phases: (1) Feasibility Assessment: Three healthy rabbits underwent three consecutive PIPAC procedures (saline) at weekly intervals. The rabbits’ well-being, morbidity, mortality, and histological changes were monitored. (2) Treatment Phase: Rabbits with PSM were treated with PIPAC using oxaliplatin, cisplatin-doxorubicin, or saline. Parameters such as animal well-being, ascites volume, morbidity, Peritoneal Cancer Index (PCI), histological response (Peritoneal Regression Grading Score [PRGS]), tumor cell proliferation/apoptosis, and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) levels were assessed. Results PIPAC was feasible and safe, with no increased morbidity or mortality. PIPAC demonstrated antitumor efficacy with lower PCI (control 21.6 vs. oxaliplatin 9.2 vs. cisplatin-doxorubicin 10.2; p < 0.001), improved histological response (PRGS: control 3.38 vs. oxaliplatin 1.95 vs. cisplatin-doxorubicin 1.85; p = 0.01), and reduced tumor cell proliferation (control 5.3% vs. oxaliplatin 0.82% vs. cisplatin-doxorubicin 0.62%; p < 0.0001). ctDNA levels showed promise for monitoring treatment response, warranting further investigation. Conclusion This study confirms the feasibility and effectiveness of PIPAC with oxaliplatin or cisplatin-doxorubicin in rabbits with PSM. The model provides a foundation for future research on PIPAC protocols and related treatments
Neurobiological effects of exergame interventions in older adults with or without a neurocognitive disorder: A systematic review
International audienceExergames (EG) are interactive video games that require physical activity and use gamification to make exercise more engaging. EG interventions demonstrated various benefits for older adults including improved mental health, quality of life, and a reduced risk of falls. Enhanced cognition is considered one of the principal targets driving these benefits. This systematic review aimed to identify the neurobiological effects of EG interventions in healthy older adults and those with neurocognitive disorders. We systematically searched major databases for studies from inception up until June 2024 and included 12 reports. Findings revealed that EG interventions induced structural and functional brain changes, accompanied by improved cognitive and motor performance, as well as neuroplastic adaptations, such as elevated BDNF levels and enhanced neurovascular coupling, in healthy older adults. Similar findings were reported in older adults with neurocognitive disorders, though only in two studies, one showing increased frontal and temporal activity at rest, and the other reporting an increase in brain volume. Notably, methodological limitations in some studies, particularly those involving neuroimaging, underline the preliminary nature of the findings. Furthermore, the small number of studies included, especially those focusing on older adults with neurocognitive disorders, who often present with diverse clinical profiles, emphasizes the need for further research to validate these encouraging but currently low-evidence finding
Porous ceramics via 3D printing and emulsion templating
International audienceA clay‐based material exhibiting high pore volume fraction and low thermal conductivity suitable for thermal insulation is described. Starting with a commercial clay containing >75% kaolinite, foams were made by mixing in water and methyl cellulose as a surfactant then beating. After drying at 70°C, the pore volume fraction >94% remains almost constant for treatments up to 1150°C. In contrast, the phases constituting the solid skeleton evolve strongly with removal of surfactant, dehydroxylation of kaolinite, and formation of mullite. The latter leads to greater mechanical strength but also an increase in thermal conductivity. Thermal treatment of the kaolin foam at 1100°C yields a suitable compromise between low thermal conductivity of 0.054 W.(m.K) −1 at room temperature with a compressive yield stress of 0.04 MPa. The radiation component in the effective thermal conductivity is <10% at 20°C increasing to >50% at 500°C
Fiber-based high-energy 1550 nm laser for generating high-order harmonics
International audienceThe demand for precise, high-energy Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) sources is growing across scientific and industrial fields. Studies have demonstrated that bulk crystals driven by mid-infrared laser pulses can generate high-order harmonics with enhanced intensities, extended cut-off energies, and improved damage thresholds [1]. While high-energy OPCPA and OPA systems have been successfully utilized to achieve these results, their complexity highlights the need for simpler, more compact solutions [1, 2, 3]. Ultrafast mid-IR fiber lasers have emerged as a promising alternative for high-harmonic generation (HHG). However, their pulse energies are limited to the nanojoule range [4]. Here, we report the first demonstration of high-order harmonics generated in bulk crystals using a high-energy fiber laser operating near 1550 nm. Our laser system integrates an erbium-doped fiber amplifier with a gas-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fiber (HC-PCF) for post-compression, delivering few-cycle pulses with durations under 50 fs, microjoule-level pulse energies, and a repetition rate of 660 kHz (fig. 1) [5]
International audienceCeO2 emissivity knowledge with its temperature is primordial for solar fuel production workframe. Indeed, it plays a crucial role in the ceramic architecture optimisation in order to increase its efficiency. An experimental setup using radiometric method has been developped to allow normal spectral emissivity measurement from 400 to 7500 cm−1 (i.e. from 1,33 to 20 μm) and from 400 to 2000 °C is presented in this work. It has been validated with SiC, from which the radiative behaviour is well known, and then has been used for CeO2 ceramic characterization.

A Distortion Aware Image Quality Assessment Model
International audienceRecent image quality metrics have taken advantage of large pre-trained vision models. However, these models require a large amount of data for training and/or have a high number of fine-tuned parameters. In addition, in such metrics, the local features are often ignored in the quality regression which can decrease the accuracy of the approach. In this study, we propose a new image quality metric that is focused on using distortion classification to obtain distortion-aware features and improve the performance of our image quality metric. We first extract local distortion features from a distortion classification task and then combine them with global content-related information to create quality features. Then, the features are aggregated as quality features, which are injected into a multilayer perceptron regressor to predict the image quality. Experiments on six common subjective datasets show that the proposed model achieves competitive performance while using a drastically lower number of parameters compared to the current stateof-the-art image quality metrics
International audienceINTRODUCTIONCadmium telluride (CdTe) is a II-VI semiconductor with a direct bandgap of approximately 1.45 eV, making it particularly suitable for photovoltaic solar cell applications 1. However, CdTe also exhibits excellent performance in the detection of hard X-rays and gamma rays2. It finds extensive use in various optoelectronic devices such as detectors, photodiodes, and photoconductors. In this study, we present a novel approach for deposition of cubic-structured CdTe thin films onto fused silica substrates using pulsed laser deposition (PLD), without post-deposition annealing. The characterization of the physical properties of the films deposited in this way will be presented in the following section.EXPERIMENTAL/THEORETICAL STUDYCdTe thin films were prepared on fused silica substrates by PLD using a KrF laser (λ=248nm, pulsed duration 20ns) and a stoichiometric target. During thin film synthesis at room temperature under high vacuum, laser fluence was adjusted to 9 J/cm2. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements of the obtained thin films have been carried out using a high-resolution diffractometer in θ-2θ configuration. Optical properties were studied using spectroscopic ellipsometry between 190 and 2100mn (UVISEL - Horiba), complemented by infrared transmission measurements. To measure the electrical conductivity of our films, two-electrodes planar components were produced by microfabrication and their resistance was monitored as a function of temperature.RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONXRD θ-2θ scans reveal the presence of diffraction peaks at 23.6°, 38.8°, and 45.7°, which can be attributed to the cubic phase of the material3. In addition to determining the film thickness, spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements and subsequent modeling have allowed us to determine the dispersion of the refractive index and extinction coefficient between 190 and 2100nm (cf. Fig 1). Furthermore, the obtained results are in agreement with the commonly reported bandgap for CdTe. These findings are corroborated by temperature-dependent resistivity measurements performed on the fabricated device
