    Get PDF
In this era infectious diseases are posing problems for human beings. In order to avoid various infections, production and use of antibiotics is on rise. The widespread misuse of antimicrobials is responsible for emerging microbial resistance. Numbers of Ayurvedic classical preparations were being used in cases of infections, and they were found to be effective clinically. Therefore, to make our treatment scientifically more validated, we can assess the antimicrobial activity of such preparations in vitro (i.e., culture and sensitivity tests). The development of bacterial resistance to known antibiotics and adverse effect to presently available antibiotics has necessitated the search for new antibacterial agents in different systems of medicine. So Hinguleshwar rasa, a known traditional medicine, has been selected for this study. The antibacterial activity of the Hinguleshwar rasa was tested against pathogenic bacteria strain Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella typhi. In order to study antibacterial action of Hinguleshwar rasa in vitro well diffusion method. During this study Hinguleshwar rasa was trailed with bacteria at different concentrations. To correlate the result, control solutions were prepared by streptomycin. Experimental groups were compared with control groups and observations were noted

Padmak Agad is indicated in all types of Luta and Keet Visha. According to Acharya Vagbhatta, heaviness in head and eyes, coma, dizziness, dyspnoea, pain, swelling, fever, itching and anorexia are common symptoms of all Keeta Damsha. Several synthetic and plant origin analgesic are being tested for their efficacy and potency on different animal model including hot plate, tail flick, tail clip, cold pain, filament pain, tail immersion technique, acetic acid induced writhing test, formalin induced writhing test etc. Material and Methods: Tail clip model and Hot plate model were selected for the present study. Eighteen Swiss albino mice had been divided in to three groups each group contain six mice. First group was negative control group; second group was test drug group while third group was standard group. Test drug was given to the group 2 for 7 days O.D. Result: When we performed the tail clip test, response time of group 1, 2, 3 were 4.40±1.853, 14.07±9.309, 40.68±11.759 seconds respectively. In Hot Plate model, calculated response time of group 1, 2, 3 were 2.93±0.667, 5.46±0.911, 6.04±0.857 seconds respectively. When we used Dunnett\u27s multiple comparisons test to compare the group 1 to group 2 and group 1 to group 3, there was statistically no significant role of test drug in tail clip model and hot plate model. Discussion and Conclusion: No effect of Padmak Agad is found in tail clip model. Padmak Agad is effective in hot plate model but not up to significant level

The root of the plant is of good medicinal value and has been used as folk remedy for treating ailments like diabetes mellitus, gastric problems, peptic ulcers, diarrhoea, cancer, toothache, pyorrhoea, cough, cold and also has anthelmintic property. A detailed pharmacognostical character of its root is not reported still yet. Methods: An attempt has been made to study the macroscopic and microscopic character, physicochemical analysis, phytochemical analysis, and chromatographic studies of its root following standard procedures. Two different extracts of Vajradanti root was used to access the physicochemical and HPTLC analysis. Research work was carried out as per standard operating procedures and specified protocols. Result: Results showed that in physicochemical evaluation aqueous extract 2.4%, hydro-ethanol extract 2.5%, total ash 8.6%, water soluble ash 1.38%, acid and insoluble ash 3.01%. HPTLC results for the quantification of epicatechin in EPF was analyzed for the first time by scanning at wavelength (λmax 366nm) and the quantity of epicatechin present in Vajradanti was estimated to be 0.032% w/w. In phytochemical analysis presence of carbohydrate, protein, glycosides, amino acid, protein in extract of Vajradanti. Conclusion: Vajradanti is a highly potent medicine for oral diseases due to presence of flavanols like epicatechin

Critical Analysis of the Concept of Rogamarga

    Get PDF
Rogamarga is an important concept in Ayurveda that describes the mode of progression of a disease. Occurrence, progression and recurrence depend on the different Rogamarga that it follows. Through the description of three different Margas namely Bahya abhyantara and Madhyama, Acharyas have explained the entire pathway through which a Vyadhi occurs. Concept of compartmentalization deals with division of the body into different fragments as alimentary compartment, intravascular compartment, interstitial compartment and intracellular compartment. It is through the knowledge of these compartments that we understand the process of digestion and transportation of nutrients all over the body. The same concept can be utilized to understand the pathology behind a disease manifestation. Rogamarga as well as compartmentalization, both talk about pathway through which a disease gets manifested. It is important to know the pathway in order to understand the pathogenesis of a particular Vyadhi. Basic fundamentals of Rogamarga and compartmentalization find similarities. Each of the compartments can be categorized into the three Rogamargas Bahya Madhyama and Abhyantara at different levels. In our science though there have been studies and articles on the basics of Rogamarga much has been not explored regarding compartments and their role in disease manifestation. This article is a humble attempt to decode the concept of Rogamarga in terms of compartmentalization thereby trying to analyse the progression of disease pathogenesis
