    Get PDF
The rise in hyperuricemia, often linked to changing dietary habits, has increased the global prevalence of gout, affecting 2.1 million people with a prevalence of 0.2-0.6%. Gout is indicative of underlying comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and renal diseases. In contemporary medicine, Vatarakta is likened to gout due to shared causes and symptoms, involving the vitiation of Vata and Rakta by distinct etiological factors, and the restricted movement of vitiated Vata by vitiated Rakta leads to Vatarakta. While asymptomatic hyperuricemia may not necessitate intervention, clinically manifest gout requires long-term treatment to lower uric acid levels and acute pain relief. Current medications like allopurinol, uricosuric agents, NSAIDs, colchicine, and glucocorticosteroids carry mild to severe side effects. Recognising the need for an effective, affordable, and well-accepted treatment. The study assessed the efficacy of Nimbadi Churna and Kokilakshadi Kashay in managing Vatarakta through an open, randomized clinical trial with 60 patients. Both treatments were administered for 28 days. Dosages were 3gm B.I.D for Nimbadi Churna and 40ml B.I.D for Kokilakshadi Kashay. Four follow-ups were performed every 7th day, assessing subjective parameters via grade scores and serum uric acid levels. Results indicated both treatments were significantly effective (p<0.001), with no statistical difference between them (p>0.05). Nimbadi Churna and Kokilakshadi Kashay demonstrated notable efficacy in Vatarakta management, presenting promising alternatives with minimal complications. While further research is necessary for validation, these findings highlight the promise of Ayurvedic approaches in the comprehensive management of gout

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder mainly characterized by elevated blood sugar level or hyperglycemia. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is the most common form, accounting for about 90% of the total diabetic population and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The condition mainly occurs from insulin resistance and relative deficiency in insulin secretion. The condition hampers the patient’s quality of life with symptoms of polyuria, polyphagia, polydipsia, fatigue, weight loss, etc. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus can be managed effectively in the initial phases with proper medication and lifestyle modification. The untimely treatment, chronicity of insulin resistance, and hyperglycemia can cause damage to multiple organs. In Ayurveda, the descriptions of Avaranajanya Madhumeha, which is a Medovahasrothodushti Vikara can be compared with T2DM as both seem analogous in etiopathogenesis and clinical features. The present study aims to evaluate the efficacy of Abhrakadi Yogam in managing Type II Diabetes Mellitus. The study was a consecutive case series done on an OPD basis. The study was conducted on ten subjects newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, in whom Abhrakadi Yogam, 4gm thrice daily before food along with honey as Anupana was given for 90 days and 30 days follow up. Assessment was done on 0th, 91st and 121st day with subjective and objective parameters. All drugs possess Tridoshahara property which helps in controlling all the Doshas. The Deepana, Pachana, Lekhana, Vatanulomana and Rasayana properties of the trial drug helped in Amapachana, Kleda Shoshana, Medohara and Srothoshodhana, restoring Dhatu Sthirata thereby improving quality of life of patients. After treatment significant improvement was observed in assessment parameters. The study showed significant clinical efficacy and safety of the trial drug

    Get PDF
Ayurveda\u27s fundamental idea is known as Tridosha. Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the body\u27s three pillars. One of the three, Pitta is in charge of all bodily transformations, including hormonal and metabolic processes. The fire is referred to as “Pitta” The term "Tapa santapaiti" refers to Pitta, which is that which generates heat and a burning sensation. It offers perception of vision, concerning healthy digestion, preservation of body temperature, appropriate skin tone and the promotion of intelligence, self-assurance and bravery. Pachaka, Ranjaka, Sadhaka, Alochaka, and Bhrajaka are the five different varieties of Pitta. Bhrajaka Pitta is in charge of keeping the body temperature stable as well as providing the skin its colour and shine. Bhrajaka Pitta causes various drugs, Abhyanga (oil massage), Parisheka (hot water or oil pouring), Avgaha (tub bath), and Lepa (paste) to be absorbed and digested. This page explains how Bhrajka Pitta\u27s physiological activity relates to current medical knowledge. To enhance comprehension of the notion and enable comparison with current scientific research, the fundamental materials for this study were gathered from old Ayurvedic texts and their available commentary, in addition to modern medical science textbooks

Hypothyroidism is an endocrine disorder that mainly occurs due to insufficient thyroid gland stimulation or primary gland failure by pituitary or hypothalamus gland. It is estimated to have affected 2-5% of world population. It is quite challenging to decipher the symptoms of hypothyroidism from other systemic disorders as they have quite similar presentation. The chaotic lifestyle, faulty food habits, reduced physical activity, over exertion at work, subjection to various environmental changes have created a vicious cycle disrupting the endocrine functioning of body. With rapid rise in incidence, dependency on lifelong thyroid hormone replacement therapy is preferred. Ayurveda being ancient system of medicine is highly efficient in healing the endocrine dysfunction. In context of Ayurvedic review the symptoms of hypothyroidism clearly depicts the involvement of Mandha agni. This particular case can be correlated with Galaganda. Case intervention: A 50-year-old- female patient visited the ENT OPD of Patanjali Ayurveda Hospital, Haridwar, with diffuse thyroid swelling and the thyroid profile test revealing increased TSH level of 8.12 uIU/ml for 12 years. The patient presented with USG neck suggestive of diffuse thyroid nodule. She earlier visited various allopathic clinics and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was currently taking Thyroxine sodium tablet 75 mcg. Conclusion: Ayurvedic protocol aimed at holistic approach by pacifying the vitiated doshas and showing significant reduction in level of TSH and providing symptomatic relief. It helped the patient in withdrawing from dependency on thyroid hormone replacement medicines

The prevalence rate of generalized anxiety disorder is increasing constantly in the modern era. In Ayurveda, the symptoms of this disease show a resemblance with the condition called Cittodvega (excited state of mind), which is one among the Manovikara in Ayurveda caused by dysfunction of increased Vata and Pitta dosha. The present study was conducted as a clinical trial to study the effect of Smriti meditation on ten diagnosed participants of generalized anxiety disorder within the age group of 18–60 years selected from the Manassanthi outpatient department of VPSV Ayurveda college, Kottakkal. 3-5 sessions of smriti meditation for 1-2 hours were done for all the participants within 15 days, and the follow-up assessment was done 1 week after the last meditation session. The Smriti meditation technique is an interactive guided psychotherapeutic meditation technique derived from the descriptions of Satvavavjaya chikitsa mentioned in Caraka Samhita. Assessment scores of different intervals were statistically analysed using repeated measures analysis of variance. Based on the results, it was found that smriti Meditation has a statistically significant effect in reducing the symptoms of all the domains of the Hamilton anxiety rating scale and also improves the quality of life of participants within a short period
