    Management of Corn Using Agnikarma

    Corns (clavi) are a common painful condition caused by hyperkeratosis due to repetitive friction or pressure. Agnikarma, an Ayurvedic thermal cauterization technique, is traditionally used to treat various musculoskeletal and dermatological conditions. This case study evaluates the efficacy of Agnikarma in treating a corn on the sole of a patient\u27s foot. Patient Profile: A 45-year-old male school teacher presented with a painful corn on the plantar aspect of her right foot. The corn had been persistent for six months, causing severe discomfort while walking or standing. The patient opted for Agnikarma after conventional treatments were discussed. Method: The corn was marked and the surrounding area cleaned. A heated Shalaka (metal rod) was applied to the corn in a circular motion to achieve a therapeutic burn. Post-procedure care included keeping the area clean and dry with regular dressing changes. Results: The patient experienced significant pain relief one week post-procedure, with the corn reducing in size by four weeks. By eight weeks, the corn had completely resolved with no recurrence or complications. The patient reported no discomfort and was able to resume normal activities. Conclusion: Agnikarma provided effective and immediate relief for the patient’s corn, showcasing its potential as a minimally invasive and cost-effective treatment. This technique promotes localized tissue necrosis and healing, making it a valuable alternative to conventional treatments, particularly for patients seeking prompt pain relief and reduced recurrence

    Comprehending Ayurvedic Management in Retinitis Pigmentosa

    Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a genetically acquired degenerative eye disorder in which the light sensitive retina’s photoreceptors slowly and progressively deteriorate and die, leading to vision loss and blindness. It almost occurs invariably in both eyes, beginning in childhood and often resulting in blindness in middle or advanced age. It causes progressive degeneration of rods and cones photoreceptor cells, particularly the former one. The evident symptoms include nyctalopia (night blindness) followed by concentric visual field loss due to degeneration of rods, which are solely responsible for vision in low light. According to Ayurveda, the sign and symptoms are analogous with Shleshvidagdha Drishti, Nakulandhya. Case and Intervention: A 35 years old male patient presented to eye OPD of Patanjali Ayurveda Hospital, Haridwar, with diminished vision in night time, blurred vision during day and peripheral visual loss since 1 year. The visual acuity was 6/60 and 6/6P (with pinhole) in right eye and 5/60 and 6/9P in left eye. He previously went for advice from allopathic hospital and was diagnosed with RP with no particular treatment for the same. No specific family history was found. Presence of bony spicules on fundoscopy, peripheral visual field loss and diminished night vision confirmed the diagnosis of RP. The patient underwent three courses of therapeutic procedures which consisted of multiple Kriyakalpas (eye treatment) along with oral medications. Conclusion: There is no apparent treatment for retinitis pigmentosa in modern medicine. The Ayurvedic regime effectively showcased marked improvement in visual field area loss hence paving a way for dispensing such benefits to other despaired RP patients

    In the Upanishada, food is regarded as Brahma, the supreme entity. Acharya Charaka highlights that both the body and diseases are formed from food, with wholesome food leading to happiness and unwholesome food leading to misery. Similarly, Acharya Kashyapa refers to food as Mahabheshaja (the supreme medicine). World Health Day, celebrated on April 7th, underscores the importance of food safety with the slogan "From farm to plate, make food safe," reflecting the critical role of Ahara (food) in health. Objectives: To examine the role of Ahara in Ayurveda, particularly its influence on health and disease, and to explores the consequences of modern dietary changes on traditional Ayurvedic recommendations. Methods: First, a literary study was conducted using classical Ayurvedic texts such as the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Kashyapa Samhita etc. Following this, additional literature was reviewed using various modern textbooks, research journals, and electronic databases. Results: In the contemporary era, many of the traditional Ahara Dravya (foods) recommended by Ayurveda have been replaced by their degraded versions, driven by taste and compatibility preferences. This article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of these dietary changes, highlighting the impact on health and alignment with Ayurvedic principles. Conclusion: Ahara, as a foundational element in Ayurveda, plays a crucial role in determining health outcomes. The shift from traditional Ayurvedic dietary recommendations to modern alternatives has both positive and negative implications, which require careful consideration to maintain health and well-being

    A Pharmacognostic, Phytochemical Study of Godhuma Bija (Triticum Aestivum Linn.)

    Background: Godhuma Bija (Triticum aestivum Linn.)are used for various conditions of ailments in traditional systems of medicine since ancient times. Pharmacognostic and phytochemical studies make the drugs more standardized and evidence based. Aims: This study was designed to lay down the various pharmacognostic and phytochemical standards which will be helpful to ensure the purity, safety, and efficacy of this medicinal plant. Materials and Methods: Various methods including macroscopic, microscopic, physicochemical and phytochemical methods were applied to determine the diagnostic features for the identification and standardization of intact and powdered drug of Godhuma Bija (Triticum aestivum Linn.) Results: The shape, colour, odour and surface characteristics were determined for the intact drug and powdered materials of Godhuma Bija (Triticum aestivum Linn.) Light and electron microscope images of cross-section of stamen and powdered microscopy revealed useful diagnostic features. Phytochemical, physicochemical analysis of powdered drug proved useful to differentiate the powdered drug material. High performance thin layer chromatography analysis showed the presence of important phytoconstituents. Conclusion: Morphology as well as various pharmacognostic aspects of Godhuma Bija (Triticum aestivum Linn.) of the plant were studied and have been described here along with phytochemical and physicochemical studies, which will help in authentication and quality control

    A Review on Kashyapokta Sama Jwara in Children with respect to Viral Fever

    "Jwara" is important and critical among all the diseases, because it affects each and every living being. Hence, it has been given first place in the classical texts of Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, Jwara is not merely the concept of raised body temperature, but as is said in Charaka Samhita, \u27Deha- Indriya- Manah- Santap\u27 is the cardinal symptoms of Jwara. This can be defined as the state where the body, mind as well as sense organs suffer due to the high temperature. Acharya Kashypa in Vishamjawar chapter explained Sama Jwara. He is only author who explained Sama Jwara. Sama Jwara is characterized by Alpahetu, Bahirmarga, vaikruta, Nirupadrava, ekashraya Laghupaka and Sukhasadhya. Materials and Methods: This study is based on literately review of classical information, published research work and modern literature. The possible correlation has been made between collected information and has been presented in systemic way. Discussion and conclusion: Sama Jwara is explained only by Kashyapa, Lakshanas of which is similar to Bahirvegi Jwara, Rasa dhatugat Jwara, in modern era it can be compared with viral fever

    Contemplating the Role of Panchakarma in the Management of Psoriatic Arthritis and its Ayurvedic Perspective

    Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory disorder that is chronic and progressive, which affects both skin and joints. Approximately 10-15% of patients who have psoriasis also develop an associated inflammation of their joint. Genetics, dietary, lifestyle related, environmental and psychological factors play a major role in pathogenesis. It is characterized by scaly skin lesion, itching, discharge, joint pain, swelling and stiffness. By considering these signs and symptoms, nearly it can be correlate to Dhatugata kusta, is a condition where in Vatapradhana tridosha affects the Gambhira dhatus causing by deterioration of Uttarottara dhatu. Thus, it is necessary to plan a treatment considering all the factors like Dosha, Dushya, Desha, Kala, Bala and Avastha of disease. Samshodhana is renowned for its ability to eradicate diseases at their core by eliminating morbid Doshas. The Doshas that are pacified by Shodhana never recurs; hence repeated Shodhana chikitsa helps in Bahudoshavastha. A 42 year male patient presented with complaints of silvery blackish scaly skin lesion all over the body. Associated with itching, blood mixed serous discharge, foul smell, multiple joint pain and stiffness visited Panchakarma OPD, GAMC Bengaluru. Patient treated with Pachana Deepana, Virechana, Takradhara and Kustaghna Basti. The present case study is intended to understand the accuracy of multimodal Panchakarma approach, which gives promising results and balance the Tridosha by eliminating the root cause of the disease

    Panchakarma Intervention in the Management of Multiple System Atrophy

    Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a Neurodegenerative condition presenting with motor abnormalities including akinesia, rigidity and postural instability along with either autonomic failure (OH or neurogenic bladder) or cerebellar syndrome. Early involvement of speech and gait, absence of rest tremors, poor response to levodopa helps to differentiate MSA from Parkinsonism. The condition is managed symptomatically and the condition progresses relentlessly to death 7-10 years after onset. There is no direct diagnostic correlation to MSA in Ayurveda, however, it can be comprehended within the spectrum of Avrutavata. Objectives- By considering MSA as Kaphavruta vyana, an attempt has been made to evaluate the efficiency of Panchakarma procedures in the conservative management of the disease. Method- A case of MSA presented with symptoms of slowness of activities, urinary incontinence, difficulty in standing and walking was managed with Dashmoola Kashaya Seka, Mustadi Yapana Basti as per Kala Basti schedule. Result- The patient was assessed based on Barthel index for dependency. Conclusion- Panchakarma procedures along with Ayurvedic oral medications are having encouraging results in improving quality of life of patients suffering from MSA

    A Comparative Clinical Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Kushamoola and Bala Moola Churna in Raktapradara w.s.r to Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding

    Raktapradara is a disease affecting the female reproductive system and manifesting as excessive bleeding per vagina. It is one of the major gynaecological issues associated with severe bleeding accompanied either with or no menstruation. This can be correlated to Dysfunctional uterine bleeding which is also called as abnormal uterine bleeding that presents without organic, systemic, and iatrogenic causes. Design: This was a randomized controlled comparative clinical study including 40 patients categorized into two groups as Group A and Group B. The present study evaluated the efficacy of Kushamoola churna and Balamoola mula churna with both subjective and objective parameters with 5 assessments as 1st day before the treatment, on 30th day after 1 month, 60th day after 2 months, 90th day after 3 months and the follow up was done on 120th day, 4th month. Intervention: Group A received Kushamoola mula churna 3gm with Tandulodaka anupana before food, thrice a day for 30 days from 5th day of the menstrual cycle in 3 cycles. Group B received Balamoola churna was with Sita and Tandulodaka as Anupana thrice a day 5th day of the menstrual cycle for 30 days in 3 cycles. Results: Both between and within groups with repeated measures analysis of variance (RMANOVA) with Bonferroni showed significant changes in Group A (Kushamoola churna) compared to Group B (Balamoola churna) on pain, duration of the menstrual flow, interval between the menstrual cycle, amount of menstrual bleeding loss, consistency of bleeding, staining, intensity of pain during menstruation and colour of menstrual bleeding with (p≤0.05). Conclusion: Kushamoola churna is effective compared to Balamoola churna in patients suffering from Rakta pradara

    In-vitro Antimicrobial Analysis of the Fumes Originates by Chandrodaya Varti (Agnikarma) in Cervical Cell Pathology

    Woman’s health is incredibly valuable and crucial component of a healthy country. There are so many diseases that affects quality of life of women, cervical cell pathology is one of them. On the basis of etiopathogenesis, sign, and symptoms and previous scientific studies it can be correlated with Garbhashaya Griva Mukhagata Vrana. Here we have proved the antimicrobial activity of Chandrodaya Varti by fumes originating from it with the help of in vitro study on different strain of bacteria and fungi and due to antimicrobial properties present in the fumes of Chandrodaya Varti. It kills the microorganisms of cervical cell pathology and due to Sooksham, Laghu, Vishada properties of fumes it regenerates new cell tissue in Garbhashaya Griva mukha. The present study highlights the effect of fumes originating (fumigation) from Chandrodaya varti in the management of Garbhashaya Griva Mukhgata Vrana

    Ayurvedic Management of Adenomyosis

    Adenomyosis is a gynecological condition with ectopic endometrial tissue in the uterine myometrium. This condition often results in symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding, dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, and can significantly impact a woman’s quality of life. If untreated, it can progress to endometriosis and require a hysterectomy. Adenomyosis has a prevalence of 9% in healthy individuals, but this increases to 70% in those with endometriosis. However, Ayurvedic formulations with properties like Anulomaka, Vatashamaka, Lekhana, and Balya can provide significant relief from pain and irregular menses, thus improves patient\u27s quality of life. Background: A married Hindu female patient of 26 years came to NIA Prasuti-stri roga OPD on 22-02-24 with chief complaint of painful menses since menarche and associated complaint of small sized clots p/v (1st to 11th day) and brownish discharge p/v after 7 days of menses (8th to 11th day). Her sonography findings were suggestive of adenomyosis. Methodology: Mainly Vata dosha vitiation symptoms were observed in the patient. Her complete Nidana Parivarjana was done, also advised to follow Rajaswalacharya. Vatashamaka, Vatanulomak and Balya dravyas were used in treatment. The treatment was continued for 2 months. Result: There was significant relief in pain during menses, brownish discharge after 2 months of treatment. Her sonography findings were normal
