Ayurveda, often referred to as the "Science of Life," is a traditional system of medicine that originated in ancient India over 5,000 years ago. It\u27s founded on the principle that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body and spirit. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining this balance for overall well-being. There are different branches of the Ayurvedic science and Kaumarbhritya is one of the eight branches of the system. The word Kaumarbhritya itself denote the importance of nourishment, support and maintenance of child. As a child is the future of great nation. In Ayurveda, Bala Roga encompasses a wide range of considerations and practices. Ensuring the well-being of newborn involves crucial protective rituals. Just as the establishment of a Special Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (SNICU) is pivotal in reducing neonatal mortality rates and enhancing the quality of life for surviving infants. Ayurveda emphasizes the meticulous arrangement of the Sutikagriha (puerperal room) and Kaumaragara (infant care room). This comprehensive approach aims to uphold stringent aseptic conditions and foster a healthy environment for both the mother and the newborn. The significance of toys and play in paediatric care has been overlooked, despite the ancient descriptions by Acharyas outlining the attributes of Kaumaragara (neonatal care unit/paediatric ward), Kaumaradhara (care-givers), Kridabhoomi (playground) and Kridanaka (toys). These elements are regarded as foundational to nurturing a thriving and flourishing individual

This study investigates the efficacy of Vaitarana Basti, prepared using an electric mixer to ensure emulsion stability, in managing Amavata symptoms. Aims: To evaluate the efficacy of electric mixer in the preparation of Vaitarana Basti on therapeutic outcomes in patients suffering from Amavata. Settings and Design: The study was conducted as a clinical intervention and followed a single-group, pre-test and post-test design. Ten patients diagnosed with Amavata, presenting with classical joint-specific symptoms, were included. Methods and Material: All ingredients for Vaitarana Basti were mixed using an electric mixer to ensure uniform emulsification. Patients received Yoga Basti (8 Basti) treatment, with assessments carried out both before and after the treatment period. Assessment parameters included joint pain, swelling, stiffness, tenderness, Ayurveda parameters, VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) score, DAS (Disease Activity Score) 28 score, grip strength, and walking time. Statistical analysis used: Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were employed for statistical analysis, comparing pre- and post-treatment scores. P-values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant, indicating treatment efficacy. Results: The intervention yielded statistically significant improvements in joint-specific symptoms such as pain, swelling, stiffness, and tenderness (p<0.05). VAS and DAS 28 scores also showed significant reductions, and functional indicators like grip strength and walking time improved notably. However, systemic symptoms remained largely unaffected, indicating the localized efficacy of Vaitarana Basti. Conclusions: Vaitarana Basti, prepared with an electric mixer to enhance emulsion uniformity, demonstrated efficacy in relieving joint-specific symptoms of Amavata. While short-term symptom relief was evident, further research is needed to assess long-term effects and the emulsion stability of Basti prepared without traditional emulsifiers

    Get PDF
Bipartite retained placenta, a rare complication where the placenta remains partially attached due to abnormal separation, can pose significant risks to maternal health. Hourglass contraction, characterized by a specific uterine contraction pattern, has been suggested as a potential underlying cause. Objective: This case study aims to highlight the role of hourglass contraction in the occurrence of bipartite retained placenta, examining its presentation, management, and outcomes. Methods: A detailed case study of a patient who experienced bipartite retained placenta after a vaginal delivery at term. The patient’s clinical history, labor details, and intraoperative findings were reviewed. Hourglass contraction was observed during labor, resulting in a partial separation of the placenta. Results: She had bipartite placenta which has been removed digitally under general anaesthesia. The mother and baby recovered by appropriate treatment and care with no long-term complications reported. Conclusion: This case study underscores hourglass contraction as a contributory factor in bipartite retained placenta. Recognizing this contraction pattern can enhance diagnostic accuracy and inform targeted management strategies. Future studies are recommended to explore the frequency of hourglass contractions in retained placenta cases and develop preventive measures

Cancer has faced medical experts with challenges due to its dreadfulness and the harmful consequences of existing therapies. It is the second most common non-communicable illness after ischemic heart disease. Extensive research has resulted in several innovative healing modalities and hundreds of cancer treatments. Surgical excision is the most established and well-tested therapy option. Radiation treatment is successful in managing a wide range of malignant tumours and is used to treat around half of all cancer patients. Cancer is the most prevalent cause of mortality globally. It has resulted in around 10 million fatalities by 2020, accounting for nearly one in every six deaths. Breast, lung, colon, and rectum prostate cancers are the most prevalent. Various studies have demonstrated that, despite advancements in cancer therapies, there remain various unmet requirements of cancer patients that vary depending on the stage and kind of disease. Unmet requirements in cancer patients have been linked to increased symptom discomfort, anxiety and a lower quality of life. Several research studies have revealed that cancer patients seek out complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) to address these unmet needs. In India, Ayurveda is the most often utilised alternative therapy that patients employ. Our previous research papers. Several case studies have demonstrated that the Rashadis-based Rasayana therapy procedure has a high potential for enhancing therapeutic outcomes in cancer patients. In this article, we discussed the therapeutic use of Rasayana treatment cancer. Rasayana helps in the replenishment and enhancement of Dhatus and Ojas. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

    Get PDF
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, preventable and treatable lung disease. It is characterized by chronic respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation due to abnormalities of the airways caused by continuous exposure to noxious particles or gases. COPD occupies the third position for the cause of death worldwide. The major risk factor for the development of COPD is tobacco smoking. The inhalation of toxic particles, biomass exposure and outdoor air pollution along with other host factors including abnormal lung development and accelerated lung aging can also contribute. Spirometry characterized by non-fully reversible airflow limitation i.e., FEV1/FVC < 0.7 post bronchodilation, confirms the diagnosis of COPD. The major goals of management are to reduce risk factors, manage stable COPD, prevent and treat acute exacerbations, and manage associated illnesses. The conservative management comprising of antibiotics, inhaled corticosteroids, mucolytics etc. offer promising results in this condition. But tachycardia, glossitis, glaucoma, nausea are some of the common adverse reactions noticed on chronic use of these group of drugs. The contemporary health scenario demands more contribution in this regard from the indigenous system of medicine. In Āyurvedic view, COPD can be considered under the spectrum of Prāṇavaha srotodushti vikaras. The clinical features and etiology mentioned for diseases mentioned in Ayurveda such as Kāsa, Tamaka śvāsa, Rajayakshma etc has similarity with that of COPD. Though COPD cannot be correlated to any single condition of Prāṇavaha sroto duṣti, Tamaka śvāsa can be considered as includes most of the clinical features including cough. When the etiological factors favour, the vitiated and aggravated Kapha dosha blocks the channels of Prāna and Udāna vāta causing the onset and symptoms of the disease

    Get PDF
Autism spectrum disorder includes a group of neurodevelopmental disorders, which disrupts normal functioning of the brain and impairs communication, social interaction, emotional balance with the presence of repetitive stereotypic mannerisms. Underlying etiology of autism spectrum disorder is still unknown. Studies on genetic causes, immune system dysregulation, inflammation, exposure to environmental toxicants, defective gut microbiome are still continuing. In ayurveda, most psycho social abnormalities are included in the category of Unmada. Along with other etiological factors, impaired digestive and metabolic functions are postulated as the root cause of Unmada. And in accord with the gut brain axis, systemic accumulation of metabolic wastes also disrupts the functional integrity of the brain. The present study describes the case of a child with ASD with hyperactivity, who has been clinically diagnosed and treated with Ayurvedic medications, Sneha sweda therapies and diet modifications, which helps in maintaining the healthy functioning of the brain. Within 3 months of intervention, the child became symptomatically better. Case study briefs Ayurvedic concepts and Ayurvedic treatment protocols regarding ASD
