    Get PDF
Ayurveda recognizes Ahara as a fundamental pillar of health, comparable to the modern concept of nutraceuticals that combine nutritional and therapeutic benefits. Kushmanda (Benincasa hispida), described in classical texts as Madhura, Sheeta, Snigdha, and Brimhana, possesses Balya, Rasayana, and Pushtiprada properties, suggesting its potential in maternal and women’s health. The present study evaluated the nutraceutical composition of Kushmanda granules developed from Kushmanda pulp, Go-Ghrita, and Sharkara in equal proportions. Analytical evaluation was carried out at Lilaba Analytical Laboratories, Surat, following AOAC (2020) standards. The formulation showed carbohydrate (91.03%), protein (3.92%), and fat (2.56%) content, with essential minerals such as potassium (932.49mg/kg), calcium (504.15mg/kg), magnesium (20.31mg/100g), and zinc (18.93mg/kg). Vitamin C (23.8mg/100 g), vitamin E (3.58mg/100g), and L-Arginine (0.352%) were also detected. These findings highlight Kushmanda granules as a nutrient-dense Ayurvedic formulation with natural L-Arginine, antioxidants, and vital minerals. Its composition supports maternal nutrition, uteroplacental circulation, and oxidative balance, reflecting the Rasayana concept in modern nutritional science. The preparation may serve as a safe and natural supplement for maternal and women’s health, offering an integrative link between traditional dietetics and contemporary nutraceutical research

    Get PDF
Breast carcinoma is the most prevalent malignancy among women worldwide, accounting for nearly one-fourth of all female cancers. It remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality, particularly in developing countries. Objective: To review the epidemiological, pathological, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of breast carcinoma and to explore the integrative potential of Ayurvedic principles, particularly Sthana Arbuda, in its management. Methods: An extensive literature review was conducted using databases such as PubMed, WHO reports, AYUSH Research Portal, and classical Ayurvedic texts including Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and Bhavaprakasha. The focus was on publications from 2010–2024 discussing breast carcinoma, its subtypes, current treatment modalities and Ayurvedic interventions. Results: Breast carcinoma exhibits significant heterogeneity in clinical behaviour and prognosis. Molecular classification- Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-enriched, and Triple Negative- guides current treatment strategies. Conventional management involves surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormonal and targeted therapy. Ayurvedic literature correlates breast carcinoma with Sthana Arbuda, attributing it to Tridosha imbalance and Mamsa–Rakta–Meda vitiation. Ayurvedic management emphasizes Shodhana (purification), Shamana (palliative therapy), and Rasayana (rejuvenation) approaches using formulations such as Kanchanara Guggulu, Varunadi Kashaya, Shivagutika, Guduchi, and Ashwagandha. Integrative approaches show potential for symptom relief, enhanced immunity, minimize recurrence and improves quality of life. Conclusion: Early detection, personalized multimodal therapy, and integration of Ayurvedic Rasayana principles may enhance treatment outcomes and minimize recurrence in breast carcinoma. Further clinical and translational research is warranted to validate the synergistic role of Ayurvedic interventions alongside modern oncology

Interrelationship Between Sleep Disorders and Early Presbyopia: Ayurvedic Insights into Preventive Care

    Get PDF
Presbyopia, traditionally considered an inevitable consequence of aging, is now increasingly observed in younger individuals, driven by modern lifestyle stressors such as screen overuse, psychological strain, and irregular sleeping patterns. Ayurveda echoes these findings, identifying Swapna Viparyaya (irregular sleeping pattern) as a primary Nidana (causative factor) Netra Roga (ocular disorders). Objective: To explore the connection between poor sleep quality and early-onset presbyopia through an integrative- merging modern ocular physiology with Ayurvedic preventive strategies. Methods: This analysis was conducted through classical Ayurvedic texts like Charak Samhita and Ashtanga Hridaya. Both contemporary clinical insights and historical perspectives from traditional medicine were examined to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic. Discussion: Scientific evidence underscores the role of circadian rhythms in regulating the redox state of the lens, with key elements such as Bmal1 gene expression, aqueous humour secretion, and glutathione transport closely linked to sleep-wake cycles. Sleep deprivation leads to impaired blood flow, oxidative stress, and cellular degeneration in ocular tissues. Ayurveda offers neuro-restorative therapies- Shirodhara, Abhyanga, and Shiropich- which help regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, improve melatonin synthesis. When combined with good sleep hygiene practices, these interventions promote redox homeostasis and delay presbyopic changes. Conclusion: Both modern science and Ayurvedic principles recognize poor sleep quality as one of the causative factors for pre onset of presbyopia. Integrating sleep hygiene with classical Ayurvedic regime for quality sleep presents a holistic and evidence-aligned approach to delay the onset of presbyopia. This integrative model holds global relevance in preventive ophthalmology

Gouty arthritis is a form of inflammatory arthritis characterized by sudden and severe pain, redness, and swelling in the joints. It happens when too much uric acid builds up in the blood, forming sharp crystals in and around joints. These crystals usually affect the big toe, ankles, knees, wrists, and elbows. In Ayurveda, gouty arthritis closely resembles a disorder called Vatarakta in which the Vata dosha becomes aggravated and combines with vitiated Rakta, leading to disturbances in the joints and surrounding tissues. A 24-year-old male patient presented to the OPD with chief complaints of acute pain and swelling in the right ankle joint for the past 6 months, along with elevated serum uric acid levels. He was treated with Panchakarma therapy, including Udwartana, Parisheka, and Kokilaksha Kashaya Niruha Basti for 14 days. These therapies have shown significant effectiveness in reducing joint pain and swelling, as well as lowering serum uric acid levels. By addressing both the symptoms and the underlying causes, these Ayurvedic treatments offer a holistic approach to managing gout. Their combined action not only alleviates discomfort but also promotes long-term relief, making them valuable interventions in the effective treatment of gout
