    Ayurvedic Management of Ovarian Cyst

    Ovarian cyst is commonest problem facing by young women and foremost cause of infertility in women. Sedentary lifestyle, abnormal food habits, stressful life have influences on secretion of female hormones and thereby causing the manifestation of ovarian cyst. Methodology: In this present case study, 18 years old woman patient consulted to the OPD of Kayachikitsa of GAMCH, Bareilly with the complaints of pain in lower abdomen, irregular menses and generalized weakness. Ultrasonography was advised and finding suggestive of right ovarian cyst (37×33mm). She was given combination of traditional herbomineral Ayurvedic medicine for three months 20 days. Result: By the use of combination of traditional Ayurvedic medicines complete resolution of ovarian cyst was noticed in follow up- Ultrasonography. Discussion: This case study highlights on the management of ovarian cyst by Ayurvedic medicine

    Evidence Based Study of Surasadi Gana on Respiratory Disorders: A Review

    Introduction: Collection of medicinal herbs having similar effect are collectively known as Gana (group) in Samhita and Vargas (category) in Nighantu. Surasadi Gana is included in 37 of such groups mentioned in Sushruta Samhita, with 21 Herbs completing the group. This article is made in a view to review the importance and utility of few herbs included in Surasadi Gana indicated for the management of respiratory disorders. Material and Methods: The literature regarding the drugs mentioned in the group, collected from different Ayurveda classics. Research papers are compiled from published sources and discussed in light of therapeutic effects. Observation and Result: Maximum of the herbs in this group are having properties as Katu rasa (pungent) and Ushna veerya (hot potency). Such herbs are predominantly advised in Kapha (phlegm humour) dominant diseases, viz. Kasa (cough), Shwasa (asthma), Pratishyaya (common cold), Kushtha (skin disorders), Krimi (worm infestation) and Vrana (wound). Conclusion: The herbs, despite having several Ayurvedic indications, the respiratory tract is the focus of the specific activity

    A poisonous plant is defined as a plant that when touched or ingested in sufficient quantity can be harmful or fatal. Many plants are harmful to people when consumed or through skin contact with plant chemicals. Poisonous medicinal herbs are used to treat a variety of illnesses, including diabetes, cancer, infection, and fungal growth. According to the review, numerous phytochemical components that have diuretic, purgative, laxative, anti-allergic, and other significant therapeutic effects have been identified from a variety of medicinal plants. If utilized appropriately, poison can be life-giving, calming to the three Doshas, encouraging, and regenerating. The poisonous plants categorized in Visha and Upvisha in Ayurveda texts. Agadtantra is an important branch of Astanga Ayurveda. Importance of this branch has been described in our Vedas, Epics, and Samhita. Proper description, classification, clinical features, and management of any kind of Visha has been described in this branch. Name of some poisonous plants are Dhatura, Vatsanabha, Bhallataka, Bhanga, Kuchala, Vacha and Gunja etc. Shodhana process is the only bridge between Visha and Aushadhi. Shodhana is the process by which physical, chemical and natural impurities are removed. It will intensify the potency, effectiveness of drug, nullify the toxicity.     Comparative Analytical Study of Madana Shalatu (Unripen Fruit of Randia Dumetorum Lam) and Phalapippali (Processed Fruits of Randia Dumetorum Lam) - A Study of Abhava Pratinidhi Dravya

    Vamana is the Agrya karma for Kaphaja vikaras. Madanaphala - Randia dumetorum Lam is the drug of choice for Vamana karma because of its property – Anapayitwat (without untoward effect). Specific collection method, season and processing is required to get Phalapippali to possess above quality. Madana shalatu– Unripen fruits of Madanaphala is an Abhavapratinidhi dravya mentioned in Sushrutha Samhita and Ashtanga Hrudaya which does not require this processing- Samskara. So, in the present study comparative qualitative and quantitative physicochemical and phytochemical analysis of the Madana Shalatu, Pakwa Madanaphala  Ripen fruit of Madanaphala and Madanaphala Pippali– Processed fruits of Madanaphala has been carried out. Aim: 1. Pharmacognostic, Physicochemical and Phytochemical analysis of Madana Shalatu, Pakwa Madanaphala, Madanaphala Pippali. 2. Comparative qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis of Madana Shalatu, Pakwa Madanaphala, Madanaphala Pippali. Method: 1. Pharmacognostic study – Macroscopic study and Microscopic study. 2. Preliminary physico chemical analysis. 3. Qualitative phyto chemical evaluation of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of the test drugs. 4. Quantitative analysis– UV Spectrophotometry. Result: Microscopic study, qualitative phyto chemical evaluation of all test drugs did not showed much differences. In total saponin estimation by UV Spectrophotometry of methanol and Water extract of ripen processed fruits of Randia, Ripen fruits of Randia and Unripen fruits of Randia is found to contain 73.71, 83.23, 71.35 and 72.62, 92.44, 75.25µg DE/mL of Saponin content respectively. Conclusion: Quantity of Saponin which is the main active principle in Randia Dumetorum responsible for Vamana Karma was similar in the Madana Shalatu and in Phala Pippali, whereas it was highest in Pakwa Madanaphala, thus it may be used like Phala Pippali without any laborious process of Samskara. Further Toxicity studies and clinical trials are required to prove its safety and efficacy in humans. &nbsp

    Ayurvedic Emphasis in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: A Case Study

    Duchenne muscular dystrophy is one of the most common dystrophinopathies known. It is the most common hereditary neuromuscular disorder and is inherited in an X-linked recessive manner. Incidence is 1:3500 live male infants, characterised by progressive weakness of a selective group of muscles without involvement of nervous system. Age of onset being 3-10 years, many children unable to walk before 18 months of age. The patient usually dies by 18-20 years of age. 80% carries have high CPK values with female being the one. Dystrophin gene is the largest human gene with 79 exons, codes for protein dystrophin required for stabilisation of protein complex at sarcolemma, the abnormal DMD gene is on X chromosome at Xp21 locus. Dystrophin deficiency thus, leads to destruction of muscle fibres and progressive muscular weakness. Corticosteroids are the only medications that have shown to alter the course of DMD but have side effects like weight gain, decreased appetite, increase changes of cataract and osteoporosis. The present study is about management 8 years old male child with B/L lower limb weakness and calf muscle hypertrophy.etc, so according to Ayurvedic management with Panchkarma procedures and internal medicines given the case was managed. Successful improvement in CPK values along with the signs and symptoms was observed. As per Ayurvedic Siddhant and Samprapti application considering Adibalapravrittavyadhi and the Beejabhaga avayava dushti the management done. There is no treatment in any system of medicine and prognosis being unpreventable, Ayurveda instills a regenerative mechanism in neuromuscular disorders with special concern of Panchkarma, Rasayanas, Rasa aushadhi, etc. By this the deterioration can effectively be prolonged and quality of life improved

    Pharmaceutical and Analytical Study of Sannipata Bhairava Rasa

    Sannipata Bhairava Rasa is an Ayurvedic formulation quoted in Bhaishajya Ratnavali Jwaradhikara used in the treatment of Jwara (fever). There is no scientific documentation regarding the standard method of preparation and analytical profile of Sannipata Bhairava Rasa. The aim of the study is to prepare Sannipata Bhairava Rasa and analyse it using various physico-chemical methods. Sannipata Bhairava Rasa was prepared as per the classical reference in Bhaishajya Ratnavali. During the pharmaceutical procedure, all the ingredients were taken as per reference, mixed uniformly and triturated with Nimbu swarasa (lemon juice) to make Vati of one Ratti (125mg). Medicines prepared in the form of tablet or pills are known as Vati or Gutika. The physico– chemical and microbial analysis of the prepared formulation was carried out. The pharmaceutical and analytical parameters were compiled, and data was recorded. The values of physico-chemical parameters of Sannipata Bhairava Rasa were as follows- total ash 11.16%, acid insoluble ash 0.63%, alcohol soluble extractive 7.68%, water soluble extractive 20.56%, loss on drying 6.34%. Data generated from pharmaceutical, analytical studies and TLC can be used to develop a preliminary standard profile for the formulation Sannipata Bhairava Rasa

    A Successful Management of Ankylosing Spondylitis with Avascular Necrosis Through Ayurveda

    This case report aimed to reveal an Ayurvedic approach to a atypical case of Ankylosing Spondylitis with bilateral avascular necrosis of femoral head. Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a condition posing major challenge to health care system. A 29-year-old male subject was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and avascular necrosis of bilateral femur head. By the clinical presentation and thorough Ayurvedic examinations of the subject the case was diagnosed as Gambheera Vatarakta with Asthisoushirya. The case was successfully managed with both Shodhana and Shamana Upacharas according to Ayurveda i.e., for Asthisoushirya, Khara Abhishyandi Snigdha Gunayukta Dravya Prayogam, Asthi Poshakam, Ghrita or Ksheera processed with Tikta Rasa and Vataraktahara Chikitsa, Ama Pachana, Rakta Prasadana, Sneha Virechana and Basti for Gambheera Vatarakta was followed and significant prognosis was achieved
