    Get PDF
Kadamb an indigenous plant described in classical texts of Ayurved has a wide range of therapeutic potential. In Charak Samhita, it has been classified in the group of drugs indicated in the management of pain (Vednasthapan Mahakashya). Among various indications, it has been reported to be used in the treatment of vitiated semen, as an astringent in healing of fractured wounds, hemorrhagic conditions, dyslipidaemia, diseases of female genital tract, as complexion promoting and alexipharmic. In classical texts, at least four varieties of Kadamb have been described. There has always been some controversy regarding botanical identity of different varieties of Kadamb described in classical texts. Present paper is a serious attempt towards establishment of botanical identities of different types of Kadamb described in classical text of Ayurved on the basis of exploration of literature substantiated by observations of field survey

Vulvovaginal candidiasis is the infection of the vaginal mucosa and/or vulva caused by the Candida species, a gram-positive yeast-like fungus. It is the second most common vulvovaginal infection characterized by thick-curdy white-cottage-cheese type vaginal discharge and intense vulvovaginal pruritus. Symptomatically vulvovaginal candidiasis can be compared with Slaishmiki yonivyapat in Ayurveda, the line of management of which is the use of Ruksha and Ushna aushadha. Local application of gel has the advantages of easy administration, more bioavailability of drugs, and prolonged retention without much local irritation. The classical Guduchi-Triphala-Danti pariseka yoga, mentioned in Yonivyapat chikitsa has been modified into a gel form, facilitating self-administration by women. Methodology: Here is a case report of a 31-year-old multiparous woman who presented with complaints of curdy white vaginal discharge associated with itching over the vulvar region for the last 6 months. She was diagnosed with vulvovaginal candidiasis by vaginal swab culture. Intervention with Guduchi-Triphala-Danti gel was carried out for 14 days for 2 consecutive cycles excluding days of menstruation and followed up after the next 30 days without medication. Results: After completion of the treatment protocol there was substantial relief of symptoms like curdy white vaginal discharge and itching over the vulvar region, wet-mount microscopy was negative for pseudohyphae, and the vaginal swab culture showed no growth. Conclusion: Local application of Guduchi-Triphala-Danti gel was found to be effective in the management of vulvovaginal candidiasis

However, delayed diagnosis and lack of proper management has made it one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In the earlier phase of the disease, relief to the patients can be provided based on chief complaints. But as the disease progresses, only dialysis and kidney transplants remain the line of treatment according to the mainstream system of medicine, thus leading to a large number of side effects and ultimately decreasing the life expectancy. In Ayurveda, CKD is not mentioned in the Samhita directly, but it can be correlated with Vataj pandu according to similarities in some of the symptoms and causes of these two diseases as mentioned in ancient literature. We can also look out for the Nidaan and Samprapti according to the history given by the patient and evaluate the Dosh, Dushya, and the Srotas involved, and then devise a line of treatment according to the patient\u27s Bala, Prakriti, Agni and Oja. In this article, we\u27re going to talk about an aspect of CKD that can be used as a part of management to improve the quality of life and give hope to all the patients suffering from this disease

Panchakarma is the elimination of Bahu dosha (excessive Doshas) in Bahu ati matra (excessive amount) through the Asanna marga (nearest route), thus all Panchakarma can be viewed under Poorvakarma (pre-operative), Pradhana karma (operative) and Paschat karma (post-operative). Koshta (bowel) and Agni play an important role in these stages. Koshta is the basic and important concept in Ayurveda. Koshta plays an important role in selection of the line of treatment. Koshta pariksha is necessary to evaluate the selection of Aushadha matra, Anupana, and Snehapana. Agni has great importance in maintaining good health. In clinical practice, Agni Pariksha (assessment of Agni) is very important, as only on this Pariksha, treatment plan can be decided. "Applied aspects" refer to the practical or real-world applications and implementations of knowledge, theories, principles, or research findings in various fields of study like Shalya Tantra, Shalakya Tantra, Kaumarabritya, Panchakarma and others. In the field of Panchakarma which includes anatomy, physiology, pathology, assessment and medicine. The medicinal aspect can be understood with the procedures followed in Panchakarma in terms of Poorva, Pradhana and Paschat karma. For Shodhana (purification Therapy) and Shamana (palliative), assessment and understanding of Koshta and Agni (fire) plays a major role

    Get PDF
Personality pertains to the different patterns of behaviour, cognitive processes, and emotional responses that distinguish individuals. It is composed of three primary components: physiological, psychological, and environmental factors. Personality is referred to as \u27Prakriti’ expressing an individual\u27s intrinsic qualities impacted by their genetic physical and mental composition, in the domain of Ayurveda.  The predominant Doshas present during conception, as well as those within the womb, ultimately shape a person\u27s Prakriti. The Prakriti constitution signifies the unique equilibrium that exists between the Sharira (body) and the Manas (mind). Manasa Prakriti or the psychic expression or constitution, is the inherent mental disposition resulting from the union of Sukra (semen), Shonita (ovum), and Atma (soul). According to Ayurveda, the relative dominance of the three principal mind components referred to as Trigunas: Satwika (purity), Rajasika (movement), and Tamasika (inertia and dullness), also known as Maha prakriti, shapes a person\u27s psychological constitution. Identifying and encouraging personal development, enhancing interpersonal skills, and   nurturing leadership qualities are all benefits of assessing an individual\u27s Manasa prakriti. It also plays an important role in sustaining health and recommending appropriate therapeutic procedures. Furthermore, the prognosis is determined by an individual\u27s Manas Prakriti type. In this review, an attempt is made to explore the Ayurvedic concept of Manasa Prakriti in light of contemporary temperament theory and personality disorders

As age advances Vata Dosha increases in an individual. This increasing Vata trigger and accelerates Dhatu Kshaya (depletion of tissues) and Bala Kshaya (diminished the body strength). Hence advancing age makes man prone to many diseases especially degenerative disorders. Asthis (bones) are the main seat of Vata Dosha and Sandhis (joints) is the main seat of Kapha Dosha. Vata Dosha is responsible for different body movements like Prasaarana and Akunchana of Sandhi (flexion and extension of joints), whereas Shleshaka Kapha located in Sandhi (joints) is provides nutrition, protection and to minimize the friction during the movement. Sandhigatavata is Vata pradhana vyadhi. It is quite similar to osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease stand in modern medical science. Sandhigatavata is Vata dominating disorder which result in inflammatory and degenerative changes in joints. Osteoarthritis is a disease of musculoskeletal system, affecting the joints mostly in elderly population and in weight bearing joints (particularly knee joint). The current standard modern medical pharmacological management of osteoarthritis includes the administration of analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).  However, their use neither provides adequate and significant relief in symptoms nor deceleration in disease process. Therefore, Vata shamaka aushadhis along with local application e.g. Abhyanga, different form of Swedana are beneficial. As Sandhigatavata is ageing related heath condition, Rasayana chikitsa can also be helpful in the management of Sandhigatavata (Osteoarthritis). This article enlighten the knowledge about Jarajanya vyadhi especially Sandhigatavata

Ayurveda, a divine science of life, transferred from immortals to mortals for the welfare of mankind. It precisely emphasize on maintenance of health, for this purpose it describes the use Nitya sevaniya dravyas and Rasayana dravyas accordingly. Among them, milk is considered as best and is compared with nectar. But now a day, many people are diagnosed as lactose intolerant, where as in Ayurvedic texts ‘Satmya’ is mentioned as Guna of Dugdha. In the text Sushen Nighantu we find a term ‘Dudgha asatmya’ which seems similar to lactose intolerance, the symptom Adhmana is referred to it. Also in text like Ajirna Manjari and Kshemakutuhalam we find treatment for Ksheerapanajanya ajirna. But any symptoms are not told. This disease comes under the umbrella of Anukta vyadhi. Acharya Charaka has given guidelines to treat Anukta vyadhi. An effort to understand lactose intolerance in Ayurvedic point of view will be made here. A literary study to find references, probable co-relation and comparison of Ksheera pana janya ajirna and lactose intolerance will be done in this article
