A family\u27s health is guaranteed by a healthy woman. Ayurveda and contemporary medicine have both discussed the idea of a healthy yoni at various stages of a woman\u27s life, from adolescence to menopause. These days, vaginal infections are a major concern for people of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. Gridhrasi is a common musculoskeletal disorder with radiating pain, stiffness, numbness and tingling sensation in one or both legs. Due to similar clinical presentation, Gridhrasi can be equated with Sciatica, in which there is pain in one or both legs caused by compression of the sciatic nerve or its component nerve roots (L5-S1). It generally affects the people in the productive years of their life and makes walking and standing painful, embarrassing and also limits their mobility. Conservative treatment options for Sciatica only provide momentary relief from pain with a very high recurrence rate. In the present report we discuss the case of a 70 years old female patient who presented with the complaint of severe low backache and pain radiation towards both legs up to the feet with associated numbness in the right leg. She was treated with Shampakadi Niruha Basti along with Patra Pinda Swedan for the time period of 16 days. There was significant improvement in the signs and symptoms of Gridhrasi i.e., SLR Test, pain, numbness, etc. Not only did the combination of these two treatment modalities alleviate the patient\u27s symptoms but it also checked the recurrence of pain by relaxing and strengthening the musculature of the back

The clustering of obesity, dyslipidaemia, impaired glucose tolerance, and hypertension, known as \u27Metabolic Syndrome (MS),\u27 has emerged as a significant global public health and clinical concern, attributed to urbanization, sedentary lifestyles, and dietary shifts. Metabolic Syndrome aligns well with the Ayurvedic concept of Medodhatuvriddhi, Medovahasrothodushti, Santharpanajanya vikaras (Sthoulya, Medoroga, Prameha, Hrdroga) and Ama pradoshaja vikaras. It is primarily caused by the vitiation of Kapha, Meda, Ama and hence drugs having Kaphavatahara, Medohara Chikitsa should be mainly adopted. Additionally, there is a common misconception among the public that ghee consumption leads to hyperlipidaemia. Taking these factors into account, a protocol has been formulated to assess the effectiveness of Huthabhugadi churna and Trayushnadi ghrtam in the management of MS. Most of the drugs in the formulations are having Kapha vatahara and Medohara properties which might help in eliminating excess Medodhathu and promote optimal Rasadi dhathus. Huthabhugadi Churna might play a pivotal role in addressing Jatharagnimandya whereas Trayushnadi Ghrtam might correct the imbalance in Dhatvagnimandya reducing the Atipravritti of Medodhathu. Consequently, this protocol might effectively help in reducing Kapha, meda and ama ultimately alleviating the symptoms associated with MS

Metabolic Syndrome is a complex metabolic condition which is a rising therapeutic problem in modern society. Additionally, it has been linked to the emergence of CVD, Type 2 DM and other grave health issues. It primarily develops as a result of a diet high in fat, a sedentary lifestyle, stress, insomnia, drinking too much alcohol, being overweight, and other factors. When three out of the five biochemical and physiological abnormalities such as visceral obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, increased blood sugar, insulin resistance, etc. are present in the body, it is considered clinically diagnosed. Acharya Charaka has mentioned a group of diseases namely Santarpana Nimittaj Vikara (diseases caused due to over eating) which can be symptomatically co-related with metabolic syndrome, especially Medaavrit (covered by fatty tissues) Vata (one of the three bodily humors representing air in the body). Aims & Objectives: Comparative evaluation of Virechana Karma (therapeutic purgation) and Lekhana Basti (a type of therapeutic enema) in the management of metabolic syndrome. Material & Methods: 43 patients were selected on the basis of classical symptomatology of metabolic syndrome from OPD and IPD of Dept. of Panchakarma, Hospital of Rishikul Campus and randomly divided into two groups - Virechana group and Lekhana Basti group on the basis of inclusion - exclusion criteria. There after the patients were subjected for detailed clinical history and physical examination. Statistical analysis used: Since objective criteria were selected so for intragroup comparison Paired- t- test was applied and for intergroup comparison Unpaired- t- test (t-test) was applied. Conclusion: Virechana Karma is better than Lekhana Basti in the management of metabolic syndrome

    Get PDF
Insomnia is characterized by inability to sleep or lack of sleep. Severe clinical insomnia is a highly prevalent health concern faced by a wide majority of people across the globe due to the rise in stressful external environments. Often such cases require long term use of sedative hypnotics or tranquilizers which are habit forming. Ayurveda identifies insomnia as Nidranasa and is a disease which is caused predominantly by Vata Pitta increase and a dip in Kapha levels. Ayurvedic treatment protocol involves internal medication and topical procedures like Shirodhara and Abhyanga. This case report is intended to throw light to a positive outcome of Ayurvedic treatment protocol in severe clinical insomnia. A 34-year-old male presented with symptoms of severe clinical insomnia assessed by Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) associated with obesity and had a history of consuming hypnotics. The treatment protocol included Dhanyamladhara, Udvartana, Takradhara, Abhyanga and Shirodhara along with disease specific internal medicines. The ISI score before treatment of 26 came down to 1 after treatment and was maintained during 3 months follow up. This displays the complete remission of the disease without the use of habit-forming internal medication

A Conceptual Review of Allergic Rhinitis According to Ayurveda

    Get PDF
The study focuses on the global health concern of allergic rhinitis, a condition that affects approximately 400 million people worldwide. The prevalence of allergic rhinitis characterized by recurrent attacks of sneezing, nasal congestion and rhinorrhoea has increased over the years due to urbanization and environmental pollution. Although modern medicine has developed treatments for allergic rhinitis, it is still incurable. In Ayurveda, there is a concept of Sannipatik disorders, which involves the vitiation of all the three Doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) in the pathophysiology of the disease. Sannipatik diseases are known to be particularly challenging to treat. The symptoms of allergic rhinitis closely resemble the diseased condition called Sannipatik Pratishayaya in Ayurveda. While modern medicine offers anti-allergic, antihistaminic, corticosteroids, and other treatment options, these are not entirely effective in curing the disease or preventing its recurrence. Additionally, these treatments often come with their own side effects. In contrast, Ayurvedic classical texts provide detailed explanation of the pathophysiology, sign and symptoms and principles of treatment for effective management for Sannipatik Pratishayaya. Thus, the Ayurvedic concept of Sannipatik Pratishyaya and its understanding can be helpful in managing allergic rhinitis. Aim- The aim of the article is to correlate symptomatology of Sannipatik Pratishyaya with allergic rhinitis and discuss the role of various treatment modalities according to Ayurveda. Methods- Literary review of various Ayurvedic texts, electronic databases; online Journals in the field available at various search portals. Result-The final outcome of the study is to find out a permanent treatment measure for this problem that can be further tested by practical application
