    Comparative Cost Analysis of Hypercholesterolemia Treatment: Allopathic Medicine and Ayurveda Medicine

    The cost of treatment is very high for CVD and the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia is also very high in developing countries. Many Indian people do not have basic amenities and medical facilities are also not accessible. So alternative medicine can play an important role in the treatment of high cholesterol. Arjuna and Kutki are effective medicines in treating high cholesterol. Methodology: Comparative cross sectional study was planned to determine the socio-economic, and demographic status and comparison of treatment costs of high cholesterol patients in SS Hospital, IMS, BHU, Varanasi. Result: The overall expenditure for Group B is significantly high (3670.06) compared to Group A (1341.10). Medicine costs form the largest portion of expenses in Group B (1:4.8), while laboratory costs are the largest in Group A. Discussion: The economic burden poses a significant challenge in the treatment of any illness. Elevated cholesterol levels pose a significant problem in the current state of affairs in India. Developing countries face significant challenges in managing their financial issues

    Skin Health and Complexion Improvement Benefits of Selected Ayurvedic Medicinal Plants

    Skin health and complexion improvement have become more prioritized and the need for natural remedies are more in demand than the synthetic options. Research in the area of skin care is growing with regular updation of facts and data. In Ayurveda, skin complexion improvement is comparable to the modern concepts such as tyrosinase inhibition and anti-oxidant activity. In this review, selected Ayurvedic medicinal plants are screened from classical Ayurvedic texts as well as the modern scientific literature to investigate their probable potential for skin health and skin lightening effects. All the plants reviewed are found to act as complexion promoters directly or indirectly by their interference in melanogenesis pathway or through antioxidant potentials. This efficiently confirms the goodness of these plants as potential skin care and whitening agents

    Exploring Ayurvedic Nutritional Medicine Perspective: The Benefits and Clinical Significance of Millets

    The science of nutrition may be enriched as well as deficiency and over nutritional disorders can be managed in a better way by incorporating Ayurvedic nutritional medicine measures in form of different diets and dietary regulation The millets are referred to in Ayurveda as Kudhanya, Kshudra Dhanya, and Trin Dhanya under the category Dhanya Varga (group of fried grains). Aim & Objectives: To explore Ayurvedic nutritional medicine perspective and clinical significance of millets. Material and Methods: The research methodology used for the study comprises a review of relevant academic articles and Ayurvedic literature. Using the search engines Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed (MEDLINE). Results: Millets are economical, nutritional and gluten free. Millets are best advised in Kaphaja Roga (diseases due to Kapha) and other Santarpanajanya Vyadhi (diseases brought on by over nutrition of one or more tissues). When it comes to Vataja Roga (diseases caused by Vata), millets should be avoided as they exacerbate the ailment. Conclusion: It has been stated in Ayurveda classics that being thin is preferable to being obese, and the Laghu (lightness), Lekhaniya (therapeutic scrapping) property of millets, with low glycemic content and the added benefit of long-term satiety, making it an excellent choice as a Ayurvedic Nutritional Medicine. Additionally, it is Ruksha (dry) with Lekhana (therapeutic scrapping) and Kledashoshana (dries up excess moisture) actions which makes it effective for treating Santapanajanya Vyadhi (diseases brought on by over nutrition of one or more tissues), such as Prameha (excessive urination), Sthaulya (obesity) etc

    Management of Mixed Cerebral Palsy Through Ayurveda

    Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the most common cause of developmental and functional disabilities in children. A non-progressive neuromotor condition of posture and movement. Cerebral palsy (CP) is described as the result of improper development of injury to the brain\u27s motor control centers. Due to its multifactorial nature and vast range of clinical symptoms, it cannot be associated with a particular Ayurvedic disease or condition. According to Vagbhaṭa it is classified in the categories of Sahaja (hereditary), Garbhaja (congenital) and Jataja (psychosomatic) disorders. There is no known "cure" for any of the several forms and subtypes of cerebral palsy. A three-year-old male child was reported to pediatric OPD of Sanjeevani Ayurveda Hospital, Dr. S. R. Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur, Rajasthan with complaints of mixed cerebral palsy. The case was taken up and aim to assess the effectiveness of the Ayurvedic management method in enhancing the child’s quality of life, improving or enhancing his functional capacity to become dependent and facilitating early rehabilitation to avoid subsequent complications

    According to World Health Organization, health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. In Ayurveda also, health is nothing but harmonious balance in Doshas, Dhatus, Malas as well as Agni alongside a pleasant state of Atma, Manas and Indriya. Food and lifestyle plays important role in maintenance of health. Out of which food is most important factor for sustenance of healthy life and ensuring physiological function in human body. Food is not only essential for our physical wellbeing but it also nourishes mind. Digestion and assimilation of food is immensely important otherwise it can lead to diseases of gastrointestinal tract. Ajeerna means indigestion which is the first biomarker of malfunctioning of Jathaaragni. According to Charak Samhita, weak state of Jathaaragni (Agnimandya) is the root cause of all disease. Similarly, Madhav nidan also has mentioned that if Ajeerna is left untreated can lead to many diseases. So process of Ajeerna must be blocked by following the correct diet according to an individual\u27s Prakriti and with proper medication treatment and lifestyle modifications. For the prevention of Ajeerna, Acharya Charak has mentioned dietary rules in the form of Ashtau ahar Vidhi Vishesh Ayatana and Acharya Shushrut has mentioned Dashvidha Ahara Vidhi vidhan. By following these guidelines and making thoughtful adjustments to diet and lifestyle, individuals can prevent the onset of Ajeerna and related diseases, ensuring the maintenance of balanced Agni and overall health

    A Standardized Method for Extraction of Parada (Mercury) from Hingula (Cinnabar) with the help of Modified Nada-Yantra

    Background: Parada (mercury) has both, miraculous therapeutics effects as well as mythical importance. Naturally obtained mercury contains so many impurities, so extraction of mercury from Hingula (cinnabar) is comparatively easy and cheaper method, also it is suitable for further preparation of formulations. In classics it is mentioned that it as beneficial as Ashtasansakrita Parada (mercury which has processed with eight procedures). About 18 methods found in classics to obtain mercury from Hingula such as Urdhwapatana (upward sublimation), Adhoptana (downward sublimation), Tiryakapatana (distillation). The Urdhwapatana method with the help of Nada-Yantra (pitcher instrument) is mentioned in classics but due to some lacunas mercury after dissociation get lost in form of fumes which causes less yield and researcher may have some hazardous effects because of toxicity of mercuric fumes. Objective: To develop a standardized method to extract Parada from Hingula through which maximum yield can be obtained and chances of harm and loss can be minimized. Material & Method: In this pharmaceutical research work we tried to modify classical procedure of Hingullotha Parada through Nada- yantra and evaluated its SOP. Result: With this modified method, mercury containing fumes get reduced and gained better yield (76.8%). Conclusion: Hingullotha Parada (collection of mercury from cinnabar) is considered as the best way to extract mercury, some small modifications in classical operating procedure can provide good yield as well as it is comparatively safer way

    Formulation and Standardisation of Nutraceutical Prepared with Mudga and Shatavari for Health and Nutrition

    According to Acharya Kashyapa, Aahara is Mahabheshaja. Ayurveda is an untapped source of vast information about nutrition providing foods, drinks and regimen. There are healthier and effective replacements for the health supplements available in the market. Mudga is a common pulse found in almost every Indian household is fortified with Shatavari which is very well known for its balya rasayana action In this study Palalam (Ladoo) having reference in Bhavaprakasha Nighantu Kritaanavarga / 132 is made with modifications using Mudga, Shatavari and Tugaksheeri. Formulation, standardization, nutritional analysis, shelf life analysis, sensory tests of Mudga Shatavari Palalam is done to confirm its efficacy as a health supplement. All the tests were found to be satisfactory. The nutritional values of the product showed that it contains higher amount of nutrition, energy, proteins, dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron and has lower saturated fats, sodium and cholesterol. The Mudga Shatavari Ladoo was found to be fit for consumption, highly palatable and nutritive. Two servings of the product provide a person with 25% of the required daily nutrition. It can be given as a weight supplement to underweight children, lactating mothers, senior citizens, growing children and those having nutritional deficiency disorders and all others in general to improve immunity and to augment the nutrition from their diet. This formulation can also be used in the form of granules, biscuits etc as required. It can also be provided as part of mid-day meals in schools to improve the nutrition in children

    An Antimicrobial Evaluation of Bhasmeshwara Rasa on Salmonella Typhi

    Infections can be caused by a wide range of pathogens and bacteria are one among them. Presently, we confront a significant challenge concerning antimicrobial resistance, leading the world to explore alternative medicine as a potential solution. Bhasmeshwara rasa is a formulation mentioned under Sannipataja jwara chikitsa in Rasendra Chintamani which acts on all three Doshas. It is a Khalviya Rasayana containing Vanyopala bhasma (cow dung cake Bhasma), Maricha and Shuddha vatsanabha and its Anupana is Ardraka Swarasa. Even though there is no Parada used in this formulation, still this formulation is suffixed with “Rasa” in its name Bhasmeshwara. In vitro anti-bacterial study, the action of Bhasmeshwara rasa was tested against Salmonella typhi by well diffusion method. A combination of Bhasmeshwara Rasa and Ardraka Swarasa showed antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi. Hence, with the present study, it can be concluded that Bhasmeshwara Rasa and Ardraka Swarasa combination shows mild to moderate anti-bacterial activity

    Role of Uttarabasti in Neurogenic Urinary Incontinence

    Neurogenic bladder refers to dysfunction of the urinary bladder arising from internal or external trauma, disease, or injury of the central, autonomic or somatic nervous system in the control of micturition. Depending on the nerves involved and the nature of the damage, bladder becomes either overactive or underactive and this usually presents clinically as urinary incontinence or retention of urine. Urinary Incontinence (UI) is a hygienic problem and is one of the troublesome, important cause of morbidity and impairment of quality of life, in both men and women. It may lead to recurrent UTI and ascending infections which affect the functioning of kidney. Deranged function of Vatadosha especially Apanavata along with Pranavata and Vyanavata are the main culprits of neurogenic bladder. Vitiated Doshas cause Mootravahasrotodushti and Atipravritti of mootra. This case study discusses the effect of Mootramarga uttarabasti in reducing the signs and symptoms of neurogenic urinary incontinence and thereby improving the quality of life. A 66 year old male patient was admitted with weakness in left upper and lower limbs, slurred speech, and difficulty in controlling micturition since 5 months. He was a diagnosed case of stroke on the basis of a brain computed tomography scan. During the course of management, Uttarabasti was administered for 8 days with Dhanwantarataila and Balamoolakashaya alternatively. The intervention resulted in reducing the symptoms of neurogenic urinary incontinence as evidenced by the reduction in ICIQ-UI -SF score. It was observed that the overall impact of the disease was reduced and quality of life improved with the help of King’s Health Questionnaire (KHQ)

    Standardization of Siddha Herbal Formulation - Vaasathi Kashayam According to PLIM Guidelines

    Despite the fact that the global market for herbal and traditional medicines has surged, the rise in demand has brought about a threat for adulteration/substitution of raw drugs, clamoring consumers\u27 faith into skepticism with the ensuing implications. To evaluate and avoid substandard herbal medicine manufacture, the Indian government has taken stringent measures, notably the establishment of PLIM (Pharmacopeial Laboratory of Indian Medicine - Protocol for testing AYUSH pharmaceuticals). The purpose of this research is the standardization of Siddha herbal decoction formulation \u27Vaasathi kashyam\u27 encompassing the leaves of Justicia adhatoda.L (Acanthaceae) and dry fruits of Vitis vinifera.L (Vitaceae) procured from the classic Siddha text \u27Agathiyar 2000\u27 specifically indicated for systemic hypertension (Raththa kothippu noi). The physicochemical parameters, phytochemical analysis, and powder microscopy of Vaasathi kashayam revealed an acidic pH and demonstrated the presence of phytochemicals such as tannins, phenols, terpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids, and carbohydrates. HPTLC fingerprinting illustrates phytochemical spikes. Furthermore, the number of heavy metals, pesticide residues (organochlorine, organophosphorus and pyrethroids) and aflatoxins in VK was trace (BQL) or nonexistent, indicating its safety for therapeutic use. The total aerobic bacterial count and yeast/mold growth reported no growth/colonies, implying that the sample is free of aerobic microorganisms. Standardization of VK entailed authenticating along with evaluating the safety and quality of the prepared VK sample. These standardized characteristics could be deployed as a reference standard to guide subsequent VK qc evaluations
