    Treatment of Second-Degree Scald Burn with the Application of Madhuchistadi Ghrita

    Burn is one of the common conditions affected by individuals in day-to-day activity which needs extra attention to prevent ugly scars and many more complications. Ayurveda has a wide range of herbal formulations to manage such types of burn wounds. Among them, one is Madhuchistadi Ghrita which has burn wound healing properties by its Vrana Ropana drugs. A 45-year-old male patient suffered second-degree scald burn along with blisters and burning over the right hand for four days. The patient was successfully treated with a local application of Madhuchistadi Ghrita twice daily for 15 days. After seven days of treatment, the wound was 70% covered with epithelialization and at the end of 15 days, the wound was completely healed. During the follow-up period of 1 month, the skin was completely remodeled with the presence of skin appendages. This is a single case report with a positive outcome on the treatment of second-degree scald burns with the application of Madhuchistadi Ghrita

    Elevating the Inner-Consciousness “Third-Eye” Through “Vedic Manas Yoga” Practice

    ‘Third-Eye Chakra’, also known as ‘Ajna Chakra’ in Sanskrit, is the sixth of the body\u27s seven major Chakras. It is also known as the "perception center" and, said to be the seat of soul and the portal to higher awareness. It is essential for achieving greater awareness and serves as the focus of concentration during Asana or meditation practices. Ajna Chakra corresponds to the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and pineal gland, as well as the eyes, ears, and nose in the physical body. Vedic manas yoga is a holistic approach to yoga that integrates concepts from the Vedas, ancient Indian literature, with practices that attempt to balance the mind, body, and spirit. This study was conducted to develop the inner consciousness and awake the dormant powers of individual participants using Vedic manas yoga. In this observational study, a total 30 physically and mentally healthy subject aged in between 5 to 15 years of both gender from Patanjali Gurukulam, Haridwar, were included. The Pre- and Post-treatment SF-36 scores were statistically evaluated using paired t-test. There was a significant difference (p<0.5) observed in mean scores of Pre-program and Post-program scores of SF-36 after three days programmed interventions against psycho-social, spiritual and emotional development of subjects. The paired t-test revealed a significant score having p<0.05 for pre-program and post-program questionnaire responses. The maximum improvement was recorded to be 22% with overall third-eye activation. Vedic manas yoga practice has shown significant improvement in SF-36 among subjects participating in this study and, further studies are recommended to awaken the inner consciousness and align the energies of body, mind and spirit

    Ayurvedic Pharmacology for Mutrakrichra

    Mutrakrichra roga (urinary disorders), is a prevalent ailment described in Ayurveda with diverse aetiologies and manifestations. Managing Mutrakrichra (urinary disorders) involves using various herbal drugs with diuretic, lithotriptic, and soothing properties. This study aims to compile and compare the drugs used in treating Mutrakrichra roga (urinary disorders) from different classical Ayurvedic texts or Samhitas, including Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya, and other manuscripts. A systematic review of these texts was conducted to identify the drugs recommended for managing Mutrakrichra roga (urinary disorders). The findings revealed a rich repository of medicinal plants and formulations used for their therapeutic effects on urinary disorders, including Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris), Punarnava (Boerrhavia diffusa), and many others. This compilation of drugs from different Samhitas provides valuable insights into the traditional knowledge and practices of Ayurveda in managing Mutrakrichra roga. It underscores the need for further research and clinical studies to validate the efficacy and safety of these herbal remedies in contemporary healthcare practices

    Trividha Anushastra Karma in Netraroga

    Shalakya tantra, also known as Uttamanga Chikitsa, focuses on the vital sense organs situated above the Jatru-clavicle, addressing diseases of the head (Shiras), ear (Karna), eye (Netra), throat (Kanta), and nose (Nasa). The eye is considered as very important part of the body which performs the work of vision and due to its sensitive nature, it needs great care. Acharya Sushrutha outlines four treatment methods like Bheshaja, Shastra, Kshara and Agni karma as important treatment modalities. Anushastra karma are the para-surgical procedures, entail performing surgical interventions without the use of Shastras - sharp surgical instruments. Acharya Sushrutha has mentioned 14 types of Anushastras among which Jalaukavacharana, Agnikarma and Ksharakarma are given more importance and described in detail. Due to the pradhanyatwa of these three procedures in treatment they are also known as Trividha Anushastra karma. Along with Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas, Rakta also plays a major role in causing different Netra rogas. So, it is advisable to go for safest Raktamokshana to do Dushita rakta dosha nirharana. In this article, an attempt is made to elaborate the complete knowledge of Anushastras used in different Netra rogas mentioned by our Acharyas.     A Comparative Phytochemical Analysis and HPTLC Fingerprinting of Ardraka and Shunti in Different Dosage Forms and its Relation to Diabetes

    Ginger is a household spice used globally for different purposes. As per Ayurveda, it is considered to possess therapeutic properties for various ailments. Although ginger has Pramehagna (anti-diabetic) property, there are very few formulations for diabetes that contain this as an ingredient. However, some pharmaceutical and clinical studies have shown significant anti-diabetic property of ginger. According to Ayurveda, Ardraka (fresh rhizome) and Shunti (dry rhizome) have different properties and are widely used in many formulations. To analyze the difference between both forms of ginger in varied forms, phytochemical screening, and HPTLC study was done on Ardraka swarasa (juice of fresh rhizome), Shunti churna (powder), Ardraka and Shunti Kashaya (decoction of fresh and dry ginger), Ardraka and Shunti Hima (cold infusion of fresh and dry ginger), Ardraka and Shunti phanta (cold decoction of fresh and dry ginger). Alkaloids were present abundantly in Ardraka swarasa, Ardraka kashaya, Shunti kashaya, Shunti hima and Shunti phanta. Flavonoids were present in excess only in Ardraka swarasa. HPTLC analysis showed more peaks in Kashaya of both forms of rhizomes and Ardraka phanta

    Deepana and Pachana - An evaluative analysis

    Ayurveda pays utmost importance to Agni as it is the inherent factor behind every change that occurs in the body. The persistent Alpagni is said to be the causative factor for all the diseases. This is why Ama pachana and Agni deepana became the basic line of treatment in many diseases. Detailed and in-depth analysis of various classical references and articles published in reliable web resources has been done on the topic Deepana and Pachana and got some inferences. Pacana has role in conditions of Ama while Deepana in Agnimandya. But in our day to day practice when we have different Oushadha yoga, we can’t discriminate it in the formulations. The range of Deepana and Pachana may vary in each formulation. We may say at the Koshta level Deepana karma improves the Abhyavaharana shakti by stimulating the appetite and Pachana karma improves the Jaranashakthi by improving the digestion

    Effect of Intravaginal Application of Palasha Udumbaradi Ointment on Pelvic Organ Prolapse

    Prolapse is a downward descent of the female pelvic organs as a result of weakness of the structures that normally retain them in position. The main symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse include micturition disturbances like stress incontinence, imperfect control of micturition, a feeling of lump coming down, postural low back ache, constipation and leucorrhoea. The management of pelvic organ prolapse includes preventive conservative and surgical measures. Surgery is indicated when conservative management fails. The three different conditions like Phalini, Prasramsini and Mahayoni vyapath mentioned by different Acharyas explain the prolapsed condition according to the stage and part prolapsed out. Palasha udumbaradi yoga mentioned in Bhaishajya Ratnavali containing ingredients such as Palasha beeja, Udumbara phala, Thilathaila and Madhu was taken for this study. The Lepa was applied in the modified form of an ointment. The study is an attempt to assess the effect of Palasha udumbaradi ointment on uterine prolapse. The ointment was applied intra vaginally. The presence of dense blood vasculature makes the vagina a potential site for local and systemic drug administration. The key advantages of vaginal drug delivery over oral administration is that this is able to circumvent the harsh gastric environment and also bypass hepatic first-pass metabolism. A 38 year woman with complaints of increased frequency of micturition, stress incontinence, burning micturition, low back ache and dyspareunia consulted the OPD of Govt. Ayurveda Medical College, Tripunithura. Palasha udumbaradi ointment was self-applied intra-vaginally. Administration of ointment was advised for 60 consecutive days excluding the days of menstruation with follow up on 90th day. Assessment was done on 0th, 30th and 60th day and follow up was done on 90th day using POP-Q Scale, urinary incontinence scale, and visual analogue scale

    Apoptotic Properties of Leaf Extracts of Simarouba glauca Against Lung Cancer- A549 Cells

    Simarouba glauca belonging to the family of Simaroubaceae and is commonly known as The Paradise tree, Laxmitaru tree (Common name) or Sorgamaram (Siddha Name). It has a long history of herbal medicine in many countries. It is a native of South America and its bark decoction is given for dysentry and hence called dysentry bark. The drug contains phytochemicals such as glaucarubin, quassinoids, ailanthione, benzoquinone, holacanthone, melianone, simaroubidin, simarolide, sistosterol. Objectives: This study isto evaluate apoptotic activity of leaf extracts of Simarouba glauca against A549 Lung Cancer Cell line using MTT Assay and determining the % cell viability on increasing concentrations. Materials and Methods: Plant sample is collected and leaf Extract is prepared by adding 5gm of dried leaves powder in 50 ml aqueous extract. And to assess cell proliferation and viability MTT cell viability test was performed and apoptotic properties were identified. Aqueous extract of various concentration were used (12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200µg/ml) to confirm the increased apoptotic activity on increasing concentration. Conclusion: These findings suggested that Simarouba glauca leaf extracts inhibited lung cancer cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The leaf extracts of Simarouba glauca was found to be nontoxic to alveoli,pneumocytes. It can be concluded that Simarouba glauca is an important source of phytochemicals posing efficacy against lung cancer cells

Moreover, through ROS antioxidant analysis, the study unveiled amazonite\u27s ability to regulate reactive oxygen species levels, indicating its potential in mitigating oxidative stress-induced damage, a hallmark of cancer progression. FTIR spectroscopy emerged as a crucial tool in the research, offering insights into amazonite\u27s molecular composition and its possible interactions with biological molecules. Of paramount importance is the toxicity analysis conducted in the study, which revealed amazonite\u27s low toxicity profile. This aspect is particularly significant as it underscores the safety of amazonite for potential therapeutic applications, including in conjunction with treatments like radiotherapy. The assurance of low toxicity is pivotal in ensuring the viability of amazonite as a candidate for clinical use, instilling confidence in its safety profile and minimizing adverse effects on patients. Overall, the findings of the research underscore amazonite\u27s potential as a safe and effective nanomedicine for the treatment of lung cancer. The observed cytotoxic effects on cancer cells, coupled with its ability to modulate reactive oxygen species levels and low toxicity profile, position amazonite as a promising candidate for further exploration in the realm of cancer therapy. However, the study also highlights the need for continued research to fully elucidate the underlying mechanisms of amazonite\u27s action and to explore its potential clinical applications comprehensively

    A Comparative Study to assess the Treatment Cost of Ayurvedic Medicine (Ginger and Castor Oil) and Modern Medicine (DMARDs) in Amavata (Rheumatoid Arthritis)

    Ama and Vata are the initial elements in the pathophysiology of Tridosha, whereas Amavata is a result of their vitiation. The expense of treatment is a major factor in the economic burden of RA for both the patient and the health and social care systems. Objective: a. To assess the socio-demographic conditions of the patients of Amavata. b. To compare the cost of a one-month treatment of ginger and castor oil with DMARD in the management of Amavata. Methodology: Total 72 patients of RA Fulfilling the inclusion criteria and having symptoms of RA were enrolled for this Interventional study. Patients were treated in two different groups- Group A- 36 clinically diagnosed and registered patients of Amavata were treated by DMARD Group B- 36 clinically diagnosed and registered patients of Amavata were treated with ginger and castor oil. After the completion of the study, total 62 patients came after one month of treatment, so we included 62 patients in this study. 32 patients in group A and 30 patients in group B Results: The average direct cost of treatment of RA patients in 2024 was estimated as Rs. 2669.17 (31.96)/monthingroupA(DMARDGroup)andRs.1386.69(31.96)/month in group A (DMARD Group) and Rs. 1386.69 (16.62) in group B (Ginger and Castor oil). Major part of total direct costs was covered by medicines (Rs. 1583) in group A and Laboratory cost (Rs. 600) in group B.  The ratio of one-month cost of DMARD and Ayurvedic medicine (ginger and castor oil) was 12:1. Discussion: The cost of Ayurvedic medicine was very low in comparison to DMARD. Ayurvedic Medicine ginger and castor oil were easily available, safe, effective and cheap
