Management of Hridroga (CVD’S)
Hridraya is an epitome of sustenance and co-ordination to maintain Ayu. It is considered as one of the three Marma sthana, and is the seat of Sarira, Buddhi, Indriya, Indriyartha, Saguna atma, Mana, etc so, any deviation in its functioning can be tremendously bereaving. Acharya Charaka, Sushruta, Vagbhata and Bhela have been unanimous regarding Hridaya being the seat of Manas and Buddhi. Hridroga is an ocean full of disease entities. In contemporary medical system, it is known as CVD i.e., Cardio-Vascular Disease. CVDs are the leading cause of death taking an estimated 17.9 million lives in 2019 accounting for whooping 32% of all the global deaths. Most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by addressing behavioural risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet and obesity, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol. These risk factors can be effectively tackled by the judicious adherence to Dinacharya, Ratricharya, Ritucharya, Sadvritta niyamas, etc. Even in the state of disease, compliance with Sodhana procedures and Oushadhas can lead to alleviation of disease and qualitative improvement in the state of Ayu. This article gives 360° view of Shaman oushadhas related to Hridroga, which is explained by the Apta in various ancient texts
Single Drug Intervention in Treatment of Amlapitta with special reference to Bhavprakash Samhita
Bhavprakash Samhita deals with detailed description medicinal plants used in treatment of various disorders along with knowledge of other aspects of Ayurveda. Amongst them Acharya Bhavmishra in the Madhyam khanda has elaborated the Amlapitta disease. Bhrihatrayee has scattered description of Amlapitta disease whereas the elaboration of this disorder is explained in Madhav nidan, Kashyap Samhita, Bhavprakash Yogratnakar and Harit Samhita. In Bhavprakash Samhita, Amlapitta is explained along with Shleshmapitta. In both these types, Amlata is Vikruti and vitiated Dosha are Kaphapitta with difference in symptoms as per the dominant Dosha. Other Granthakars have mentioned Kaphapittaj as a type of Amlapitta according to its Dosha predominance. Whereas in Bhavprakash Samhita Shleshmapitta is described as a separate entity. The treatment mentioned in Bhavprakash Samhita comprises of Shodhan and Shaman Chikitsa. In Shaman Chikitsa Acharya Bhavmishra has used Single drugs in various combinations. An Alternative Approach to the Treatment of Arthritis
Arthritis, also known as joint inflammation, is the swelling and tenderness of one or more joints in the body. With the main symptoms being stiffness of joints and pain, arthritis can severely affect the quality of life. It worsens with age and typically shows itself in adult ages. This case study is of a very young, 19-year-old woman, who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 18. After Ayurvedic assessment, she was recommended the use of herbal blends, oils, Ayurvedic diet, and lifestyle changes. This was done in gradual phases and lasted for about six months. The American College of Rheumatology’s Arthritis Impact Measurement Scales were used for pre and post assessment. Post Ayurvedic management, the client’s situation is greatly improved after Ayurvedic management and she still follows ayurvedic recommendations for maintenance. This case study provides positive insights and alternatives into the management of Arthritis
Ayurvedic Management of Anxiety Induced Insomnia
The extremely busy lifestyle has significantly impacted both the physical and mental health of individuals. Discussing mental health remains a stigma in society, profoundly affecting individuals\u27 psyche. A male patient reported to the outpatient department with symptoms of anxiety, over thinking, disturbed sleep, body ache, fatigue, poor digestion, and frequent headaches for the past ten months. His score on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) was 30, indicating moderate to severe anxiety, and his score on the Pittsburgh Insomnia Severity Index (PSQI) was 17, classifying him as a poor sleeper. The patient underwent 42 days of Ayurvedic treatment, which included Panchakarma therapy and internal medications. The Panchakarma therapy consisted of Abhyanga with Matra Basti, Shirodhara, and Pratimarsha Nasya using Bala Ashwagandhadi oil. The internal medications included Manasmitra Vataka, Chitrakadi Vati, and Kalyanak Ghrita. After 42 days of treatment, the patient\u27s HAM-A score decreased to 11, and the PSQI score dropped to 6. The patient reported a renewed sense of well-being and enthusiasm for work after a long time
Pharmacognostical and Pharmaceutical Analysis of Yavanishadavadi Vati - An Ayurvedic Polyherbal Formulation
Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) is caused by the aerobic acid-fast rod-shaped bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This tiny bacterium, expelled from a contagious host, can remain suspended in air as droplet nuclei for hours. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a form of TB caused by bacteria that do not respond to isoniazid and rifampicin, the 2 most effective first-line TB drugs. In Ayurveda, the term Rajayakshma has been used interchangeably with tuberculosis. Rajayakshma is primarily attributable to Dhatukshaya (tissue emaciation or loss). Aim: To analyze the Pharmacognostical and Pharmaceutical properties of Yavanishadavadi Vati. Materials and Methods: Yavanishadavadi Vati was subjected to microscopic evaluation for pharmacognostical study, physico-chemical analysis like hardness, weight variation, loss on drying, ash value, acid insoluble extract, pH value, water soluble extract, alcohol soluble extract and high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC). Result: Pharmacognostical study showed the presence of certain identifying characteristics of all the ingredients of Yavanishadavadi Vati that is Yavani, Tintidaka, Shunthi, Amalvetasa, Dadima, Badara, Dhanyaka, Suvarchal Lavana, Jeeraka, Dalchini, Pippali, Maricha and Sarkara. In pharmaceutical study, preliminary physico-chemical analysis showed that hardness of Yavanishadavadi Vati was hardness 6.6Kg/cm2, ash value 10.59%w/w, loss on drying 8.17%w/w, water soluble extract 28.6%w/w, alcohol soluble extract 20.2%w/w and pH value was 6.5. HPTLC analysis showed eleven spots in 254nm and nine spots in 365nm. Conclusion: Present work was carried out to standardize the polyherbal formulation Yavanishadavadi Vati in terms of its identity, quality and purity. A Case Study of Nidranasha and its Management Through Ayurveda
Ayurveda has described various preventions as well as cure for every disorder. This all helps in maintaining health of an individual. Ayurveda has mentioned Aahara, Nidra, Brahmacharya are the three main pillars of body. Nidra is essential in every person’s life. Here Nidra is explained as one of the important part of life which provides Sukha, Dukha etc. Ayurveda has mentioned that lack of Nidra causes ‘Nidranasha’. According to Ayurveda, Nidranasha i.e., insomnia classified under the Vatananatmaja Vikara. There are various treatments and Kalpas etc. available for the management of Nidranasha. Managing Acid Reflux: A Dietetic Approach to Alleviating Aamlapitta and GERD Symptoms
This article elucidates the role of dietetics in addressing the symptoms of acid reflux, specifically focusing on Aamlapitta and GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Acid reflux poses a pervasive challenge, often causing discomfort and disrupting daily activities. However, through a comprehensive dietetic approach, individuals can effectively manage and alleviate these symptoms. This article synthesizes current research and practical insights to offer a holistic understanding of how dietary modifications can positively impact acid reflux. A common sickness of the gastrointestinal system, or Annavaha Srotasa, that affects people of all ages, genders, places, and climates may be Amlapitta, as described in several traditional Ayurvedic books. The 21st century is recognized as the modern period since it completely altered lifestyles and dietary patterns from earlier times. The majority of non-communicable diseases nowadays are caused by overindulgence in food items such as over-processed, under processed, and incompatible dietary preparations. Acharyas listed a number of dos and don\u27ts, including Ritucharya (a seasonal regime) and Dinacharya (a diurnal regime). The Ayurvedic teachings of Acharyas featured Pathya (healthy) and Apathaya (unhealthy) as a component in the treatment of ailments, in addition to being an essential part of the regimen of good health. In conclusion, this article underscores the pivotal role of dietetics in managing acid reflux and offers actionable insights to empower individuals in their journey toward symptom relief and improved quality of life
Indigenous foods of Tamil Nadu-A narrative review of its nutritive value and Mineral Bioavailability
The Siddha system is one of the oldest traditional and holistic systems practiced in the southern part of India. “Food itself is Medicine and Medicine itself is Food” same indicates the Tamil quote “Unavae Marunthu, Marunthae Unavu” indigenous food is which is traditionally transferred from one generation to the next generation hence these food products are known as traditional foods. Indigenous food system helps to improve the quality of life. We conducted a literature search in scientific databases: PubMed and Google Scholar, also relevant Siddha literature from Dr. Ambedkar Library, Chennai. To identify studies reporting nutritive values and/or anti-nutrient content of IFs (not included in the Indian food composition database), consumed by peoples of Tamil Nadu. Data were selected and gathered from a total of 10 kinds of literature and 55 research papers. Some indigenous food displayed high levels of nutrients and minerals. Hence, efforts are desirable to encourage the inclusion of these nutritionally superior traditional foods into the usual diets. Indigenous food preparations are rich in nutraceutical compound which aids in better well-being and improve immunity. So, it is important to record indigenous foods in order to safeguard and maintain our traditional knowledge
