Evaluating the Swedana Method for Purifying Shankha : A Scientific Approach
Shodhana is the process of conversion of poisonous drugs into non-poisonous form, thereby making them suitable for internal administration to obtain the desired therapeutic benefits. Shankha is one of the rich sources of calcium of animal origin i.e., from the shell of marine creature called Turbinella pyrum, Xanthus pyrum which are generally found in the shallow ocean coast along with the several weeds and other minerals which makes it unsuitable for direct internal administration. Hence, the intermediate process i.e., Shodhana is required. There are different methods of Shodhana like Swedana (boiling), Kshalana (washing), Bharjana (frying), Nirvapana (quenching in liquid media). Evaluating the Immunomodulatory Effect of Indukantham Gritham: An Ayurvedic Perspective
The basic principles of Ayurveda rely on the concept that Sharira is composed of Tridoshas (three humors), Panchamahabhuthas (five elements), Sapthadhatus (seven tissues). Any imbalance among them causes Roga. Ayurveda aims at maintaining the health of Swastha and curing the Roga in unhealthy. Classical texts of Ayurveda have defined immunity as (Vyadhikshamatwa) i.e., the ability of the body to prevent as well as arrest the progression of a Roga. Investigating Dream Phenomena in Ayurveda for Women: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Insights into Tridosha Imbalances
This paper explores the role of dream phenomena in Ayurveda, particularly focusing on women. It examines how dreams are interpreted in relation to the Tridosha system (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and their implications for diagnosing and treating Dosha imbalances. By integrating Ayurvedic principles with modern understanding of dreams, the study aims to provide a comprehensive framework for utilizing dream analysis in Ayurvedic practice. The analysis of dream patterns associated with Dosha imbalances among 50 women revealed notable trends in the frequency of dream experiences tied to each Dosha. The data showed that Pitta was the most frequently associated Dosha, with a total frequency count of 77 occurrences, representing 42% of the total dream patterns observed. This was followed closely by Vata, which accounted for 76 occurrences, or 41% of the total. Kapha had the lowest frequency with 39 occurrences, constituting 17% of the total. These results indicate that dream patterns reflecting fiery, intense, and chaotic elements were predominantly linked with Pitta imbalances, while disorganized and fragmented dreams were more commonly associated with Vata. Kapha imbalances, characterized by heavy and stagnant dream themes, were less frequent. The data suggests a significant correlation between specific dream phenomena and Dosha imbalances, highlighting the potential of dream analysis as a valuable diagnostic and therapeutic tool in Ayurvedic practice for understanding and addressing Dosha-related health issues in women
To Assess the Efficacy of Japapatryadi Tail and Amritadi Kwath in Vicharchika (Eczema)
Skin disorders are increasingly prevalent today due to modern lifestyles and stress. Ayurveda references skin diseases primarily under the category of Kushtha, with Vicharchika (eczema) being one that is predominantly influenced by Kapha. While steroid therapies are commonly used, they can cause side effects. Therefore, exploring new topical treatments may help reduce the need for long-term steroid use. Aim: To assess the efficacy of Japapatryadi Tail local application and Amritadi Kwath in Vicharchika (eczema). Materials and Methods: This study involved an open-label clinical trial with 30 patients diagnosed with Vicharchika (eczema). The participants were treated with a topical application of Tail and an oral dosage of Kwath for 50 days. The effectiveness of the treatment was evaluated by assessing changes in the following clinical parameters before and after the intervention: Kandu (itching), Daha (burning sensation), Strava (oozing), Rukshata (dryness), Pidikotpatti (eruptions), Vaivarnyata (discoloration), Rajii (thickening of skin). Data were collected at baseline (day 0) and at the end of the treatment period. The results were analyzed using the paired ‘t’ test to determine the significance of the observed changes. Results: The topical application of Japapatryadi Tail and Amritadi Kwath was found to be highly effective in reducing the symptoms of Vicharchika (eczema). Conclusion: Japapatryadi Tail and Amritadi Kwath could be used in symptomatic relief of Vicharchika (eczema), and also repairs and enhances the damaged skin
Analytical Study of Pippalyadigana Vati - An Ayurvedic Formulation
In Ayurveda, the raw drugs are classified under various groups known as Gana, which contain substances with comparable qualities that can treat a particular ailment. Ganas are very crucial to making the treatment field simpler and more efficient. Acharya Sushrut made a truly remarkable contribution by classifying the drugs into 37 distinct categories for various ailments. Pippalyadi gana is one of the Ganas described by Acharya Sushruta and is specially mentioned for the management of Pratishyaya. Pratishyaya is one important disease of Urdhwajatrugata Roga. In Ayurveda, Kalka, Kawath, Churna and Vati are the most frequently used form of medication. Vati preparation is considered a secondary Kashaya Kalpana and offers an easy way to administer oral medication. In the present study, 14 drugs from Pippalyadi Gana were selected for Vati preparation and certain of them were used in Kwath form for Bhavna, while the drugs containing volatile oils were utilized in powder form. Vati Kalpana has been prepared according to general method of preparation Vati mentioned in API. Prepared Vati were tested by many parameters including physical and chemical ones, such as weight variation and disintegration time, and chromatographic tests, such as TLC fingerprinting, were used to standardize it. After the testing, all parameters were found to be within API standard limits. This kind of result indicates a good therapeutic property of Vati Kalpana which can be used as oral medication for Pratishyaya
Management of Ekkustha Through Shaman and Sodhana Therapy
A persistent inflammatory skin condition, psoriasis affects 2% to 4% of the population. About 10% of psoriasis patients develop inflammatory arthritis, which can significantly impair daily activities and life quality. It is also regarded as a psychosomatic illness for which there is no long-term treatment. According to Ayurveda, the patient was diagnosed as having Kapha-pitta dominance, or Ekkustha. The purpose of this case study is to assess the effectiveness of Shaman Chikitsa and Virechan in treating recurring psoriasis. PASI was used to measure symptoms both before and after therapy. There was improvement in the PASI score. The Ayurvedic psoriasis was effectively managed with Shodhan treatment, according to recognized measures
A Pharmaceutical Study of Rasasindoora in Perspective of Different Time Pattern
In the system of Ayurveda, there are two basic categories of medicinal formulations-Kashtaushadhi (pure herbal) and Rasaushadhi (herbo-mineral). The standardization of Rasaushadhies through modern parameter gives an easy acceptance and can remove the negative propaganda about medicine containing Parada (mercury). Rasasindoora is widely prepared and clinically practiced by Ayurvedic fraternity. Aims and Objectives: The current study is planned to established the best pharmaceutical method of Rasasindoora in perspective of time and cost. Materials and Method: 250gm Kajjali was taken in every bach for the preparation of Rasasindoora by using EMF (electric muffle furnace) with the thought it gives desired and standard yield. In this study 3 batches of Rasasindoora were prepared in 16 hours, 11 hours and 8 hours. Result: Rasasindoora yield from Batch I, Batch II and Batch III are 50.84%, 51.76% and 50.48%. Conclusion: The average yield is 51.02% and yield from batch III (8hrs) is 50.48%, there is no major difference in % yield in all three batches. Thus, the best adopted method for the preparation of Rasasindoora is batch III (8hrs) due to lesser consumption of electricity, coal and time
Strachan-Scott Syndrome: Ayurvedic Perspective
Strachan Scott Syndrome also known as Tropical Ataxic Polyneuropathy (TAN) is a rare neurological disorder characterized by the lesions involving skin and mucous membrane, optic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy, likely to be caused due to chronic cyanide intoxication following dependency to single plant component, cassava. It is considered as a disease of poor tropical populations but lacks a clear statistics on how many people are affected worldwide, but in affected population prevalence have been noted in more than a quarter. A very little is known about its incidence in India. The clinical spectrum of the syndrome ranges from oculo-oro-genital skin manifestations to severe neurological deficits. This has no direct correlation in classics, though Kalayakhanja which is one of the neurological disorders mentioned under Vatavyadhi, but clinically different in presentation to Strachan Scott Syndrome. This is a disease caused as a result of chronic intoxication of cyanide so etiologically it could be considered under the concepts of Dooshivisha. The signs and symptoms can be considered as the sequential involvement of the Dhatus and Upadhatus, manifesting as a Vatavyadhi as it progresses to involve the nervous system. Being a disease with a very few diagnosed cases and available literatures, this is an attempt in understanding the mechanism of the syndrome from Ayurvedic point of view and the probable management strategies which could be adopted to turn into a manageable one
Conceptual Study of Applications of Prakruthi Sama Samavetha and Vikruthi Visama Samavetha Siddhanta
Ayurveda is a holistic science that works for a healthy, wealthy and happy life. The wisdom of Ayurveda is based on various theories and principles. To know the science properly one should have the thorough knowledge of all the fundaments. The concept of Prakruthi Sama Samvetha Siddhanta and Vikriti Visama Samavetha Siddhanta is one such basic principle of Ayurveda. Prakruthi sama Samavetha Siddhanta and Vikriti Visama Samavetha Siddhanta are the given by Acharya charaka. While describing the relation between Rasa - Dravya and Dosa-Vyadhi. These two Siddanthans helps in understanding the concept of diagnosis, treatment. Dravya is the entity which has been given with prime importance for its role in prevention and treatment of different ailments. Generally Dravyas acts according to Rasa, Guna, Virya, and Vipaka. In some other conditions the action of Dravya cannot be expressed with the help of Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka. Extraction and Analytical Study of Semecarpus Anacardium L. Seed Oil
Bhallataka, also known as the marking nut or dhobi nut, is a potent ingredient in Ayurvedic medicine. Despite its irritant nature, it\u27s been used for centuries to treat a myriad of diseases. Its oil, extracted using the Patala Yantra, is a key formulation in Ayurvedic pharmaceutics. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, is gaining global recognition for its holistic and natural approach to health. A significant part of Ayurvedic treatments are plant-based, ranging from raw plant materials to refined extracts. One such plant is Semecarpus anacardium Linn, the botanical source of Bhallataka. The plant is being traditionally used by the ancient healers in clinical practice. Apart from the clinical uses the plant was also used for marking clothes, as hair dyes and in many non-therapeutic uses as well. Bhallataka is a plant which holds much significance in Siddha and Unani system of medicine. Various studies have been conducted to understand its physical and chemical nature of the plant, in order to understand its use in therapeutic purposes. Chemical and phytochemical analysis of Bhallataka nut reveals a treasure trove of bioactive compounds- biflavonoids, phenolic compounds, bhilawanols, minerals, vitamins, and amino acids. These compounds make Bhallataka effective against various diseases like arthritis, tumors, and infections. The oil of Bhallataka, extracted using the Patala Yantra method, is particularly noteworthy. This oil is an integral part of Ayurvedic pharmaceutics, and its application is referenced in various ancient texts
