Madhumeha, one among the Vataja Pramehas need utmost consideration in the current scenario in view of the rising incidence. Madhumeha is similar to diabetes mellitus. Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose which leads over time to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. The most common is Type 2 Diabetes, usually in adults, which occurs when the body becomes resistant to Insulin or doesn\u27t make enough Insulin. In the past 3 decades the prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes has raised dramatically in countries of all income levels. According to Ayurveda, Madhumeha is manageable with the prescribed Chikitsa in the Samhitas. It is judiciously managed with the help of Yuktikruta Ahara, Vihara and Aushadha (Darvyadi churna). In this case Nidana parivarjana has been followed and this case is being considered as Sthoola Pramehi

Vasti is one among the most widely used therapeutic procedures in Ayurveda especially in neurological and degenerative diseases. Proper guidelines for Panchakarma procedures are laid out in the classics for better outcome and minimal complications. Till date, the guidelines hold value and current practices revolve around the same. Though there are plenty of insights into the benefits of Vasti, minimal information is available about the complications and management. This case report is an attempt to understand how the administration of a Kashaya vasti in a known case of lumbar spondylosis resulted in complication and managed with oral administration of Kamadudharasa. A 64 year old male patient with primary complaint of low back ache developed pain and burning sensation per abdomen after giving Erandamooladi niruhavasti. He went to a state of confusion. Initial management was done using Dhanvantaram gutika, which failed to revive the patient. A single dose of Kamadudha rasa was administered sublingually following which he regained consciousness. This was followed by a reduction in the burning sensation and the patient felt better. On detailed analysis, it was found that the patient had a history of gastritis and was on medication for the same. The Teekshna guna of Erandamuladi vasti probably worsened the state of Pitta in his Koshta and lead to the complications such as Sula, Daha and Moha. A detailed understanding of the selection of the right type of Niruha vasti is necessary for better outcomes. This brings our attention to the importance of Sameekshya bhava and how it plays an important role in deciding the outcome of Panchakarma procedures. Failure to do so may result in Vyapath/complications

The goal of this study was to determine Uttar Bastis potential as a more affordable and safe solution for treating tubal obstruction. The present paper is based on a clinical success story of the treatment of primary infertility due to tubal blockage. After the 1-month of procedure improvement in general condition was reported. On completion of the second month patient reported amenorrhea in subsequent month and went for UPT which was positive. On USG (after 3 weeks) a single well-defined gestational sac with foetal cardiac activity was seen. The result obtained in this single case study was quite encouraging with minimum invasion and side effects as well as cost-effective. So, the treatment protocol can be followed for patients of infertility due to corneal end tubal block. Success was achieved with Uttar Basti and some supportive Ayurvedic formulations

Shalakya tantra is the branch of Ayurveda which deals with Urdhwajatrugata rogas i.e., diseases occurring in supraclavicular region. Acharyas have mentioned various Mukharogas (diseases pertaining to oral cavity) which are further subdivided into various categories. Acharya Sushruta has mentioned five Jihwagata rogas (diseases of tongue) and their management. Upajihwika which is caused by vitiation of Kapha and Rakta, is the Jihwagraroopa shwathu cystic swelling under the ventral aspect of tongue. In modern, it can be correlated with Ranula which is a translucent swelling in the floor of the mouth formed due to sublingual gland trauma or obstruction of the ducts. It further leads to extravasation and accumulation of saliva in the surrounding tissue thus forming a cyst. Case and Intervention- A 49-year-old male patient presented to ENT OPD of Patanjali Ayurveda Hospital with swelling in left submandibular region for 2 months. There was no difficulty in mastication and swallowing with no history of trauma. The patient was diagnosed with plunging Ranula sized 4x3 cm based on USG findings. He underwent three months and 10 days course of Ayurvedic regime and two follow ups showing reduction in size of the cystic swelling. Conclusion: Several surgical techniques have been introduced to treat Ranula ranging from marsupialization, excision of Ranula, excision of sublingual glands, sclerotherapy with varying success and recurrence rate. Ayurvedic protocol aimed at holistic approach by pacifying the vitiated Doshas and showing marked regression in the cystic growth without making the patient undergo the pain and high cost and adverse effect as that of a surgical procedure

The study revealed that no recurrence of the symptoms was noticed after one year in 73% of the patients. Twenty-two percent of patients showed recurrence of symptoms in one year. The use of Panchawalkal Yonidhavan not only gave symptomatic relief but helped to cure Yonivypadas. Yonidhavan proved helpful, economical, and accessible Ayurvedic treatment

A Conceptual Study on Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

    Get PDF
The prevalence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy is predicted to increase in future. The persistent hyperglycaemia results in non-enzymatic glycosylation of haemoglobin and results in macrovascular and microvascular complications. Neuropathy is one of the most frequently encountered microvascular complications. It considerably reduces the quality of life, causes disability due to feet ulceration and gait disturbances. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy can be considered as a Dhatu, Upadhathu pradoshaja vatavyadhi. As Vatavyadhi is mentioned as a Maharoga, combined modalities of treatment should be adopted. As microangiopathy is the underlying pathology, here the integrity and function of Rakthavaha srotas is distorted, which results in Avarana of Vata. To remove this Avarana kapha pitha shamana and Rakta prasadana are the best treatment modalities. Drugs having Rasayanaguna has proven beneficial in restoration of neuronal functions

An Overview of Immunomodulatory Activity of Rasayanas

    Get PDF
The term "immunomodulation" refers to the regulation and modulation of immunity, which may be accomplished by either enhancing or suppressing the immune response. A medication with immunomodulatory activity has particular importance given in the current state of pandemics, the rise in antibiotic resistance, and autoimmune diseases. A medicine with immunomodulatory properties that enhance quality of life would be great. Here lies the importance of Rasayana tantra which consists of many formulations aiming at increasing the quality of life by imparting longevity, memory, disease-free life, youth, excellence of body, and sense organs. Many Rasayanas have been shown to have immunomodulatory properties. Rasayanas have a calming effect on the psyche in addition to its intended benefits for physical health. It has also been demonstrated that stress affects immunity. Several Rasayanas have been shown to exhibit anti-stress properties. Rasayana may thus strengthen the psycho-neuro-immune axis and control the immune system by utilising the body\u27s warriors, such as phagocytes and cytokines. Research on Rasayanas such as Amalaki rasayana, Triphala rasayana, Chyavanaprasha, etc. has been conducted both in vitro and in vivo. These kinds of studies establish the system as evidence-based and shed some light on the mechanism of action. The present review will provide knowledge about immunomodulatory activity and the action mechanism of Amalaki rasayana, Triphala rasayana, Rasayana choorna, Shatavari Medhya rasayana and Chyavanaprasha
