    Get PDF
Background and Aim: Antioxidants derived from natural sources, particularly those rich in flavonoids and phenolic compounds, have attracted considerable interest for their potential health benefits in combating oxidative stress-related diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant potential of the ethyl acetate (EtAc) fraction obtained from Cyperus pangorei rhizome, focusing on both in vitro and in vivo assessments. Methods: The EtAc fraction was subjected to RP-HPLC analysis to identify and quantify phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Acute toxicity testing was performed to assess the safety profile of the EtAc fraction. In vitro antioxidant activity was determined using DPPH and ABTS+ radical scavenging assays. In vivo evaluation of antioxidant activity was conducted in Triton X-100-induced oxidative stress model in mice, measuring malondialdehyde (MDA) content, glutathione (GSH) levels, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in liver tissues. Results: RP-HPLC analysis confirmed the presence of quercetin, luteolin, and apigenin in the EtAc fraction. The fraction exhibited significant dose-dependent antioxidant activity in both DPPH and ABTS+ assays, with IC50 values indicating potent scavenging effects. In the Triton X-100-induced stress model, administration of the EtAc fraction led to a reduction in MDA levels, restoration of GSH levels, and enhancement of SOD activity in mouse liver tissues. Conclusion: The findings suggest that the EtAc fraction from C. pangorei possesses promising antioxidant properties, as evidenced by its ability to mitigate oxidative stress-related damage both in vitro and in vivo

    Get PDF
Background and aim: Inflammation is a pivotal process implicated in various physiological and pathological conditions, necessitating the exploration of alternative anti-inflammatory agents with minimal side effects. This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory potential of the standardized ethyl acetate (EtAc) fraction derived from Cyperus pangorei rhizomes. Methods: The rhizomes of C. pangorei were collected, processed, and subjected to extraction and fractionation to obtain the EtAc fraction. RP-HPLC analysis was employed to standardized the EtAc fraction against standard quercetin, luteolin, and apigenin. In vitro studies utilized peritoneal macrophages isolated from male Swiss albino rats to assess NO production and cytokine levels (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) upon treatment with the EtAc fraction. In vivo evaluation was conducted using a carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model. Results: RP-HPLC analysis revealed the presence of quercetin, luteolin, and apigenin in the EtAc fraction. In vitro studies demonstrated dose-dependent inhibition of LPS-induced NO production and suppression of inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) by the EtAc fraction. Furthermore, in the carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model, the EtAc fraction exhibited dose-dependent inhibition of paw edema. Conclusion: The findings of this study highlight the significant anti-inflammatory potential of C. pangorei rhizome extracts, particularly the EtAc fraction. The identified compounds, quercetin, luteolin, and apigenin, contribute to its anti-inflammatory activity by modulating key inflammatory mediators. These results support the potential therapeutic use of C. pangorei in managing inflammation-related disorders. Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of C. pangorei extracts as anti-inflammatory agents

The World Health Organization defines infertility as a disorder of the male or female reproductive system characterized by the inability to conceive after 12 months or more of consistent unprotected sexual activity. Secondary infertile if they have successfully became pregnant at least once in the past. 30-40% of infertility is caused by ovulatory disruption. PCOS is characterized by oligo/anovulation, excess androgen-related symptoms, and numerous ovarian cysts. Infertility correlates with Vandhyatha in Ayurveda. Acharya Harita described that failure to achieve a Praja known as Vandhayatwa. Praja is achieve by Garbha and to achieve Garbha purity of many component (Ritu, Kshetra, Ambu, Beeja) is necessary. Regarding this case, Ritu is disturbed in form of Artavkshaya, managed through principles like use of Agneya dravya, Agni Deepana, Vata Shamana and Piita Vardhna. Case presentation: A female patient, 25 years old, visited Prasuti Tantra and Stri- Roga OPD of National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, on 28 august 2023 with secondary infertility associated with delayed and scanty menses for 3 years. Methodology: Detailed history with all clinical, physical examination and laboratory investigations were carried out which were normal. Ultrasonography reveals bilateral PCOD. So the treatment was planned accordingly. Patient was treated with Shatapushpa churna in 2 consecutive cycles. Result: Patient got her menstruation after one month of drug intake with improvement in menstrual pattern. She continued to take drug during the second month and missed her period consequently after that.UPT was done and was found positiv

    Get PDF
Traumatic tympanic perforations can occur due to various reasons, such as concussion, insertion of objects, temporal bone fractures, barotrauma, etc. Slap injuries are a common cause. Symptoms include sudden conductive deafness, pain and/or blood-stained discharge. Tinnitus and vertigo may complicate the condition. Appropriate and timely management is crucial to reduce the risk of permanent impairment, as studies indicate that spontaneous healing occurs within 1.5 to 3 months. While Ayurvedic texts don’t directly mention traumatic tympanic perforations, they can be categorized as ‘Agantuja Vrana’ (wounds caused by external factors). Ayurvedic treatment includes both local and systemic approaches. In this case study, medicines were used internally for 2 months: Sarivadi Vati, Lakshadi Guggul, Mahayograj Guggul, Gandha Taila capsules and a combination of Vatashamaka Churnas. This combination led to significant improvement; the perforation completely healed in 2 months. Thus, internal use of these drugs helped in the healing of traumatic perforations
