Application of Non-adiabatic theory to the control of integrated waveguides arrays
International audienceWe show that the non-adiabatic theory allows full control of the flow of light in arrays of coupled waveguides. In particular, the coupling phase can be controlled, opening possibilities for the realization of topologic systems
Monitoring Pseudoprogression Using Circulating Small Extracellular Vesicles Expressing PD‐L1 in a Melanoma Patient Treated With Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors
International audienceImmune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have revolutionized the treatment of metastatic malignancy. However, unique immune response patterns can occur, such as pseudoprogression, which corresponds to new lesion development or temporary tumour growth followed by regression. Misidentifying pseudoprogression may halt ICI therapy, due to the absence of biomarkers to distinguish progression from pseudoprogression. In 2020, our team proposed small extracellular vesicles expressing PD‐L1 (sEV‐PD‐L1) as a predictor of melanoma treatment response. We report a case of pseudoprogression in a patient treated with nivolumab and ipilimumab for metastatic melanoma, and showing reduced circulating sEV‐PD‐L1. To our knowledge, this is the first report of PD‐L1 monitoring in circulating sEV during pseudoprogression under ICI. A decrease in PD‐L1 in circulating sEV might be an early sign of disease response to ICI, and may help to diagnose pseudoprogression. This case supports further evaluation of sEV‐PD‐L1 to identify responder patients to ICI, especially in case of pseudoprogression. Trial Registration: EXOMEL1 P/2018/40 1 AC‐2015‐2496/DC‐2014‐2086. Substituent Effect on the Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution of Thiophenes With Pyrrolidine: Theoretical Mechanistic and Reactivity Study
International audienceAromatic nucleophilic substitution (S N Ar) is a widely employed synthetic method for modifying thiophene derivatives. Herein, we computationally investigate the reaction mechanism of 2‐methoxy‐3‐ X ‐5‐nitrothiophenes with pyrrolidine (where X = NO 2 , CN, SO 2 CH 3 , COCH 3 , CO 2 CH 3 , CONH 2 or H). This S N Ar reaction follows a stepwise pathway: initially, pyrrolidine adds to the C2 position of the 2‐methoxy thiophene partner. Then, the release of methanol is triggered by a proton transfer from the newly formed ammonium intermediate to the methoxy group. With excess pyrrolidine, this proton transfer is catalyzed by an additional pyrrolidine molecule. We establish linear correlations between the experimental electrophilicity and the Gibbs free energy barrier, Parr electrophilicity (ω), and molecular softness (S). Local reactivity descriptors for the C2 position are generally non‐informative, except for the population of the CO bond basin, the C2 population of the ELF LUMO function, and the condensed electrophilicity index ω + ( C2 ). This theoretical approach provides a robust method to further predict electrophilicity parameters in versatile thiophene derivatives chemistry
Are soil conservation and “No Net Land Take” suitable for urban development? modeling and assessment in two French cases
International audienceThe No Net Land Take (NNLT) policy seeks to halt the expansion of urbanised land to preserve soil quality and biodiversity. In France, this involves achieving zero net increase in artificial surfaces by 2050, with a mid-term objective of halving land take by 2030. This study examines the implications of NNLT for urban development and environmental preservation through a case study of two southeastern French territories: Grand Rovaltain and Aire Gapençaise. A data-driven cellular automata (CA) simulation model is employed to explore multiple development scenarios. This model integrates soil quality classifications (from 1 to 5) to assess the spatial dynamics of land use under NNLT constraints. The results indicate that while the policy restricts the spatial distribution of new developments, it does not inhibit overall housing and economic growth. Instead, development pressures tend to concentrate in rural and suburban transition zones, particularly those already vulnerable to sprawl. Soil quality thresholds significantly shape the spatial allocation of new growth, reinforcing the role of environmental parameters in guiding sustainable urban planning. The study offers three main contributions. First, it demonstrates the effectiveness of CA-based models in visualising land use outcomes under ecological constraints. Second, it highlights the potential to reconcile socio-economic development with environmental protection. Third, it stresses the importance of territorial dialogue to mitigate spatial inequalities that may emerge from the rigid application of NNLT policy. Overall, the study underscores the value of simulation-based planning tools in informing land use decisions and balancing competing territorial objectives under ambitious sustainability frameworks
OPTIFLORSYS: A tool to help design agroecological weed management strategies
COPRAA : Knowledge and tools for preventive and operational approaches to agroecological weedy plant managementInternational audienceRedesigning cropping systems is essential to manage weeds with few or no herbicides. The new decision support system OPTIFLORSYS combines the "virtual field" model FLORSYS with optimization algorithms. It allows optimizing cropping systems and crop ideotypes in a coherent manner and based on indicators of weed impacts on crop production and biodiversity predicted by FLORSYS. Thus, the tool accompanies the redesign of cropping systems, identifying new management strategies. This paper first presents the OPTIFLORSYS tool, followed by three case studies aiming to optimise rotations, tillage or maize ideotypes, to illustrate the OPTIFLORSYS functioning and its contribution to redesigning cropping systems. The tool is still under development and is likely to evolve depending on, among other things, the feedback from future users
In a wine-growing context marked by changing cultivation practices, it is becoming essential to assess their impact not only on soil functioning but also on vine nutrition and grape must quality. This thesis, conducted in the Cognac region, takes a multidisciplinary approach by combining chemical, biological, and microbiological data. Three scales of study were explored: a large-scale analysis of vineyard plots, a comparison of contrasting agricultural systems, and a greenhouse experiment. The results show that certain practices, such as grass cover, organic fertilization, or moderate tillage, promote microbial biodiversity and soil functions, while others can be detrimental to them. A database specific to the Cognac appellation has been created, and the positive effects of agroforestry and the addition of organic matter to vineyard soils offer promising prospects for sustainably improving the quality of vineyard soils and enhancing our understanding of terroir.
