    Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Improves Marital Relationship and Sexual Satisfaction in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Patients and Partners

Georges ([email protected])International audienceSymptoms of obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea can interfere with sleep and quality of life for the patient's partner and affect marital relationships. Our primary objective was to assess how continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment affects couples using the Dyadic Adjustment Questionnaire (DAS-16). Secondary objectives focused on the effects on the dyad's quality of life and sleep, depending on the technical characteristics of the device. Prospective monocentric study including consecutive couples in which one of the partners began treatment by CPAP between July 2022 and February 2024 at Dijon University Hospital. After inclusion, dyads were evaluated 2 and 6 months after treatment initiation. Fiftyfour couples were analysed. After 2 months under CPAP, the dyadic adjustment score (DAS-16) significantly improved in partners (ΔDAS-16 = +1 [-1; 3], p = 0.025) and in patients (ΔDAS-16 = +2 [-1; 5], p = 0.002). DAS-16 improvement was stable after 6 months. Sexual satisfaction followed the same trend. Sleep quality assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (patients) and the Athens Insomnia Scale (partners) improved significantly, as did daytime sleepiness. A significant reduction in anxiety and depression scores, as well as an improvement in several domains of the SF-36 questionnaire, were also demonstrated in both groups. Our study shows that the use of CPAP improves the quality of marital relationships, as perceived by both partners.     NavWareSet: A Dataset of Socially Compliant and Non-Compliant Robot Navigation

    This paper presents NavWareSet, a novel dataset crafted to advance socially compliant robot navigation research. NavWareSet provides multi-modal recordings of both socially compliant and non-compliant robot trajectories in controlled indoor environments. Drawing upon seven carefully selected scenarios, it captures complex human-robot interactions and a range of navigation challenges that mirror realistic social contexts. NavWareSet establishes a rich benchmark for evaluating and training navigation algorithms by incorporating two distinct robot platforms - Toyota Human Support Robot (HSR) and Clearpath's Jackal - and systematically varying their navigation behaviors. With data modalities spanning lidar, RGB-D camera, odometry, and human position annotations, NavWareSet enables finegrained analysis of the robot's decision-making process and its impact on human comfort and safety. Ultimately, this dataset provides a versatile resource for developing robust, ethically guided navigation policies and for measuring their performance across a range of social situations.     Real-time Detection and Tracking of Wasps Using Quadcopter

    International audienceThis study presents the first attempt at a real time autonomous system for detecting and tracking wasps using a quad-rotor platform. The detection process leverages the YOLOv8 algorithm, a state-of-the-art deep learning method, which is trained on a custom dataset and implemented in Python. Images captured by the quad-rotor's camera are processed to detect the target, and these are analyzed by the YOLOv8 model. Upon detection, the position of the wasp is identified, and tracking errors are computed, which are then used as input to a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for real-time tracking. The conventional PID controller is employed to manage the quad-rotor's speed and track the moving target. Controller gains (K's) tuning was done using a trial-and-error approach. Indoor experiments with an AR-Drone demonstrate the system's ability to accurately detect and track wasps in real time. This validates the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, proving the possibility for future developments

    Fat taste sensitivity in women with obesity: transcriptomic analysis of fungiform papillae before and after bariatric surgery

    International audienceObjective Fat taste sensitivity has been implicated in long-term weight loss after bariatric surgery. Unexpectedly, improvement of orosensory fat acuity was not systematic in operated patients.MethodsObesity-induced alterations of gene expression in gustatory papillae having been recently reported, we have explored the fungiform transcriptomic activity in the bariatric surgery context. Fat taste detection thresholds (three-alternative ascending forced-choice tests) alongside transcriptomic profiling of freshly isolated fungiform papillae were assessed in women with severe obesity before and 6 months after sleeve gastrectomy.ResultsAccording to evolution of post surgery detection thresholds, lipid-improved and -unimproved subgroups were identified, despite similar initial anthropometric parameters. Lower weight loss and higher plasma fasting insulin, C-reactive protein, and fibrinogen levels distinguished lipid-unimproved patients. This subgroup also overexpressed genes involved in inflammation and apoptosis, with certain ones being positively correlated with high lipid detection thresholds (low sensitivity), whereas the key gene of taste bud cell signaling, TRPM5, was down-expressed. In lipid-improved patients, genes implicated in cell renewal, neuronal function, and receptor recycling were upregulated and associated with better lipid detection efficiency. Pathway enrichment identified immune and anti-inflammatory activities in lipid-unimproved and -improved groups, respectively.ConclusionsThese findings collectively suggest that changes in gene expression within gustatory papillae contribute to fat taste sensitivity after sleeve gastrectomy

    International audienceÉtudier les scènes de viol dans les littératures européennes de la modernité et les confronter dans une perspective comparatiste soulève une difficulté méthodologique particulièrement sensible pour cet objet : quel corpus constituer et sur quels critères ? Faut-il distinguer les œuvres dans lesquelles le mot « viol » est employé, où il constitue une description endogène, des œuvres pour lesquelles ce terme survient dans un langage exogène, le « langage de la conversation critique » (Tabeling 2018) ? Faut-il limiter le corpus à la première catégorie ou bien sélectionner tout ce que nous, lecteurs·rices contemporain·es, percevons comme viol, dans une démarche d'anachronisme contrôlé ? Mais est-il si certain que cette démarche aboutisse pour autant à un consensus ? Derrière l'impression d'évidence descriptive face aux scènes de viol, penser le viol comme interprétation de l'action narrative réintroduit un problème épistémologique, un enjeu de réception et la question de l'extension du concept.Dans cette article, je me penche sur la réception par la critique professionnelle d'une unique œuvre, Les Liaisons dangereuses, où se manifeste précisément l'absence de consensus. Si l'on s'en tient aux occurrences du terme dans le roman, « violer » est ce que, selon Merteuil, Valmont croit avoir fait mais n'a pas réellement fait avec les femmes qu'il a eues (X). Si l'on regarde où le terme apparaît dans la critique, on constate que c'est en fait le plus souvent à propos d'un autre roman, intertexte explicite des Liaisons et pour lequel le terme ne fait pas débat : _Clarissa_. Le viol est alors ce que Valmont refuse de faire pour conquérir la Présidente (CX) et pour la majorité de la critique ce qui le distingue de Lovelace. Par contraste, on constate une variabilité de l'interprétation à propos de deux scènes des Liaisons : celle qui est racontée dans les lettres XCVI et XCVII, et celle rapportée par la lettre CXXV. Dans chacun de ces cas, la critique a parfois lu un viol. Pour Cécile (lettres XCVI et XCVII), la caractérisation n'est pourtant pas systématique et elle se présente quelquefois sous une forme fortement modalisée ; de plus, elle est occasionnellement directement réfutée. Dans le cas de la Présidente (CXXV), il s'agit d'une interprétation très minoritaire, peu discutée tant elle est rare, mais attestée assez tôt dans la critique.Dans une démarche méta-herméneutique (Korthals Altes 2014) guidée par les théories de la lecture et par les théories du récit, je cherche à rendre compte de cette variation interprétative

    International audiencePartial migration is a phenomenon where migratory and resident individuals of the same species co‐exist within a population, and has been linked to both intrinsic (e.g., genetic) as well as environmental factors. Here we investigated the genomic architecture of partial migration in the common blackbird, a songbird that comprises resident populations in the southern distribution range, partial migratory populations in central Europe, and exclusively migratory populations in northern and eastern Europe. We generated whole‐genome sequencing data for 60 individuals, each of which was phenotyped for migratory behavior using radio‐telemetry tracking. These individuals were sampled across the species' distribution range, including resident populations (Spain and France), obligate migrants (Russia), and a partial migratory population with equal numbers of migratory and resident individuals in Germany. We estimated genetic differentiation (F ST ) of single‐nucleotide variants (SNVs) in 2.5 kb windows between all possible population and migratory phenotype combinations, and focused our characterization on birds from the partial migratory population in Germany. Despite overall low differentiation within the partial migratory German population, we identified several outlier regions with elevated differentiation on four distinct chromosomes. The region with the highest relative and absolute differentiation was located on chromosome 9, overlapping PER2 , which has previously been shown to be involved in the control of the circadian rhythm across vertebrates. While this region showed high levels of differentiation, no fixed variant could be identified, supporting the notion that a complex phenotype such as migratory behavior is likely controlled by a large number of genetic loci

    On the impact of the camera field-of-view to Direct Visual Servoing robot trajectories when using the Photometric Gaussian Mixtures as dense feature

    International audienceThis paper studies the impact of cameras with different fields of view (FoV) on Direct Visual Servoing to control robot motions from pixel intensities. Focusing on the Photometric Gaussian Mixture Visual Servoing that showed great convergence domains, this paper investigates two types of FoV: the seminal perspective case and the novel full om- nidirectional case. Implemented with our open-source generic software framework libPeR for a fair comparison, the Visual Servoing experiments on a 6 degrees-of-freedom robot arm provide an in-depth evaluation of the impact of each FoV on the convergence domain, straightness of the trajectory and time to reach convergence
