Perspectives of Stakeholders from Indian Secondary Schools about Conducting Board Examinations Twice a Year

Board examinations play a vital role in the academic journey of students and significantly influence teachers' responsibilities. However, the current examination system has been criticized for contributing to student stress, anxiety, inconsistent grading, and over-reliance on rote learning, which has led to a decline in public trust. To address these challenges, the introduction of conducting board examination twice a year, recommended by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework-School Education (NCF-SE)2023 represents a major reform in the education system. This study investigates the perspectives of stakeholders on conducting board examinations twice a year in Khurda district, Odisha, India. A descriptive research design and survey method were employed, with a randomly selected sample consisting of schools, head-teachers, teachers, and students. The total sample comprised 10 head-teachers, 100 teachers, and 200 students. The findings indicate that 78.18% of participants believe board examinations twice a year would reduce student stress, 81.81% agree it provides better preparation opportunities, and 86.36% think frequent and timely feedback fosters academic growth. However, 50% of stakeholders expressed concerns about increased teacher workload. Students supported conducting board examinations twice a year, believing it would encourage consistent study habits, reduced stress, and fostered a growth mindset. However, concerns were raised about resource inequalities benefiting well-supported students. These results underscore the potential benefits and challenges of implementing board examinations twice a year, offering valuable insights for policymakers and educators in shaping future examination reforms

The Aesthetic Authority of Sultan Hamengku Buwana X in the Creation of Traditional Dance: A Study on the Bedhaya Mintaraga at the Yogyakarta Court

The bedhaya dance is a significant Javanese dance genre, often associated with royalty, serving as a means to showcase the majesty and authority of a monarch. Therefore, it’s customary for a Sultan, occupying the highest social status in the Yogyakarta Court, to have bedhaya dances as part of his repertoire. One way for a Sultan to acquire bedhaya dances is by commissioning the creation of new ones during his reign, as exemplified by Sultan Hamengku Buwana (HB) X’s creation of the Bedhaya Mintaraga dance. This research aims to describe the Sultan HB X’s involvement, considering his hierarchical status and aesthetic authority, in the creation process of the Bedhaya Mintaraga dance. Understanding the Sultan HB X’s significant role in determining a new bedhaya dance during his reign is crucial. This qualitative research employs an ethnochoreological approach, utilizing non-field study data sources. Findings indicate that the Sultan HB X plays a significant role as the creator, evident in the dawuh dalem (royal decree) and controlling actions he exercises. Through these decrees and controls, the Sultan HB X manifests his aesthetic authority, having the power to determine his creations within the Bedhaya Mintaraga dance, which stands as a significant addition to his reign’s cultural legacy

Iconisation and Sociolinguistics of Communication in Nigerian Poetry of English Expression

This paper's objectives were to: (i) evaluate the iconic presentation of form in Nigerian poetry of English expression; and (ii) identify the textual organization and linguistic elements that serve as communicative signaling in Nigerian poetry. The study determines the implications of poetic discourse on society by using a qualitative research design to generate data and insights from the Peirce model of semiotic theory, specifically with regard to icons. Icons and a few sociolinguistic concepts, like the class variable, served as the foundation for this analysis. This study discovered that: 1. Nigerian poets employ iconic form presentation in their poetry. They can effectively convey their message to the readers by using this device. 2. Together, linguistic components and textual organization serve as articulate devices and communicative signaling, highlighting the expressive significance and implications of Nigerian poetry. The primary focus of literary creation ought to be moral principles. In a time like this, when people desperately need literary works that will change some "maladaptive behavior" in members of society, no work of literature that merely entertains and does not educate the general public can meet the needs of society. Given this, it is advised that poets from Nigeria in particular, as well as literary writers generally, question the moral decay of society and offer solutions. This can be accomplished by presenting the decadence of society in an iconic manner. If applied, social iconization will lead to intellectualism that corrects society's problems

Striking Balance in Democratic Governance: The Battle for Control between the Administrative and Legal Branches

The perception of the role of the court in democracy is a complex and frequently debated aspect of political systems. It involves how individuals, institutions, and society at large view the function, powers, and responsibilities of the judiciary within the broader democratic framework. The role of the court is deeply intertwined with the principle of separation of powers, which delineates distinct functions for the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. However, the perception of the court's role in shaping and influencing public policies is a subject of discussion, since the effectiveness of the court in a democracy is closely linked to public trust and legitimacy. Prominent researches argue that the court should actively contribute to policy development, while others believe that its primary function should be limited to interpreting and applying existing laws. As a result, debates often arise over the extent to which the court should exercise its power of judicial review. A perceived lack of impartiality, independence, or transparency can erode public trust, impacting the credibility of the court's decisions and its overall role in democratic governance. While courts have the authority to render judgments, their ability to enforce decisions and ensure compliance with the rule of law relies on the cooperation of other branches and societal actors. The research highlights contrasting viewpoints on the court's responsibility in safeguarding constitutional principles through the rejection of legislative and executive actions that contradict constitutional norms. The core issue revolves around the significance of this and whether it presents a potential threat by enabling the court to supersede decisions made by duly elected representatives of the public
