Online Home Schooling: Are Parents Ready? Lessons from the Corona Virus Disease Induced Lock Down
Get PDFThe outbreak of the corona virus disease (COVID-19) in China around December 2019 led to the premature closure of schools globally. This was done to ensure reduced transmission of the disease. Due to the indefinite level two lockdown in Zimbabwe, schools remain closed. This has led to online home schooling, where schools send work to parents who conduct and monitor the lessons on their behalf. This study sought to find out the experiences and readiness of parents in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Zimbabwe, who were expected to conduct lessons online. The study which is situated in the interpretive paradigm and qualitative approach collected data from ten purposively selected parents as key informants. Qualitative data was collected using emailed open-ended questionnaires in compliance with COVID-19 regulations. Results revealed that parents found it difficult to conduct online lessons due to costly data, lack of expert knowledge and teaching pedagogy, unclear instructions from teachers, unavailable or shared gadgets at home and poor internet connectivity. Schools were also said to be piling up work, disregarding parents’ other responsibilities. Conclusions drawn were that most of the parents were not ready for online home schooling although they perceived the exercise to be beneficial. Recommendations were that schools should conduct training sessions for staff and parents, have formal feedback sessions and exercise flexibility for execution and submission of work and continue online lessons post COVID-19. The Analysis of Inequality on Economic Growth in Indonesia
Get PDFDevelopment is carried out to improve people's welfare, so that economic growth and an even distribution of income are needed. Rapid economic growth that is not balanced with equal distribution, will lead to regional imbalances. The objectives of this study are to; (1) to analyze the factors causing inequality on economic growth in all provinces in Indonesia; (2) to analyze the largest contributor to development inequality between provinces in Indonesia, (3) to form a model of development inequality and economic growth for each province and Indonesia (4) to generat ideas or ideas for solutions to control development inequality and economic growth in Indonesia. The variables studied are the wiliamson index, human development index, unemployment and the General Allocation Fund for each province in Indonesia in 2010-2017. The data observed are primary data and secondary data from various related agencies, such as Bank Indonesia, Statistics Indonesia, Ministry of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia and Ministry of Finance Indonesia. Before being analyzed, the data will pass through the next classical assumption test stage with the Panel Data Model. The results showed that the unemployment rate had a negative and significant effect, while General Allocation Fund and HDI had a positive and significant effect on the level of inequality in Indonesia

Various problems regulated in this regulation include: The quality that is owned between modern retail and traditional retail is not comparable in terms of capital, management to human resources; The increasing number of modern retailers has made it difficult for traditional retailers to develop because they have to deal directly with modern retailers with better quality; There are no strict sanctions against retailers who violate the relevant provisions; Unilateral determination of the types, sizes and prices of trading terms to retail; and The incomplete application of regulations and criminal provisions whose content is not yet optimal. Currently, the gap between modern trading businesses and traditional trading businesses lies in the distribution chain that is digitally integrated in modern trading businesses, creating synergies among its users. Meanwhile, traditional trading business entrepreneurs are usually cash based and have limited integration with suppliers or banks to manage purchases, supplies and payments. Based on this condition, it is very necessary to form a regulation to create a balanced competition between traditional trading businesses and modern trading businesses, regulations that are able to bring justice to all entrepreneurs, not only provide protection for traditional trading businesses and forget about modern trading businesses that also have a very positive impact on the existence of the regional and national economy or vice versa. Improving the Speaking Skill by Vlog as Learning Media for Teaching Long Functional Text for Eighth Grade Students at SMPN 17 Medan
Get PDFThis research was aimed to develop Video Blog as media of speaking in teaching long functional text for eighth grade students at SMPN 17 Medan. This research applied Research and Development (R&D) model proposed by Gall, Gall and Borg (2003) through six procedures: gathering data and information, conducting need analysis, designing, expert validating, revising, and producing final product. The subjects of this research were 30 students of eighth grade of SMPN 17 Medan. The instruments of collecting data were the teacher’s lesson plan, teacher’s interview and students’ questionnaires result. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis. The product has been validated by two experts. The assessment from the first expert was 4,5 or 91,3% while the assessment from the second expert was 4,6 or 93%. Based on the experts’ judgment result, the research showed that: The Video Blogs were eligible and valid as learning media in teaching and learning speaking long functional text for eighth grade students at SMPN 17 Medan. Furthermore, the video blogs give many benefits for students, such as to improve their speaking, make them enjoy and easier to speak long functional text. It means that the vlog media development was appropriate for the eighth grade students of SMPN 17 Medan
Religion, Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction: Expediters or Hindrances for Global Peace
Get PDFThe purpose of the study was to examine the validity of the argument indicating that the religious nature of the terrorist groups accounts for the increase in the violence of terrorist acts today. The study also intended to explore the relationship between terrorism and religion and to address whether or not there has been interrelatedness between religion and terrorism. Another purpose was to explore the scope of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and to examine how religion was exploited to disseminate terrorism and eradicate global peace and how the possession of WMD could influence global peace. The study employed a meta-analysis of literature which pointed out the significance of religion and the controversy as to whether or not religion triggered terrorist violence. Incidents such as 9/11, the 2005 London underground attack, Paris attack, and 2019 attack in New Zealand were analyzed to serve the purposes of the study. The findings showed the main triggers and incentives behind the terrorist attacks waged in the name of religion. Overall, the findings of the study emphasized the influence of religion on terrorism, and vice versa. The study rendered conclusions that delved into infamous attacks and recognized terrorism as caused by religion or perceptions fogged by media and stereotypes
Effect of Employees’ Commitment on Organizational Performance in Selected Firms
Get PDFThis study investigated the effect of employee’s commitment on organizational performance in selected brewing firms. Two objectives which are ;To examine the impact of employee commitment on organizational profitability in brewing industry in Nigeria To examine the dimensions of employee commitment on performance in brewing industry in Nigeria guided the study. Also two research questions and hypotheses were drawn along that line. A survey design was adopted with a sample population size of 216 drawn using Taro Yamani. Data were presented and analyzed using tables and simple percentages. Also, hypotheses were tested using parametric statistics. Findings revealed that Organizational profitability had a positive influence on employees performance in the area studied (Zc=4.226 > Zt =1.645) and Inadequate employees development programmes had a positive influence on employees commitment in the area studied (Zc=4.531 > Zt =1.645). It was recommended that Organizations should regularly embark on performance appraisals because; it will go a long way to know whether the human capital development is producing the needed result and that there should be a systematic view towards employees’ commitment development in organizations. Easy access to information and communication through social networks makes children no longer care about the surrounding environment and tends to be "uncivilized". The condition makes parents try to instill a filter through the selection of schools with a religious character curriculum. That fact encourages the emergence of schools labeled with religion with "extra" religious curriculum offers. So, the considerations in choosing a school from a Muslim family, in particular, can indirectly be seen from the curriculum character offered by the school and the character of its graduates. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence parents in choosing an Islamic school. The method used is quantitative with 100 parents who have school-age children from grade 1 to grade 3 who have a middle to the upper economic background in the Bandung. Unemployment as a social milieu will negate socio-political, economic and educational development of the nation. However, average Nigerian goes to sleep at night with one eye closed while other opened which may lead to poor manpower development, physical harassment delinquency, criminal activities, psychological trauma as a result of civil unrest among others.. Content systematic method of analysis was adopted in reviewing relevant publications from different search engines such as EMBASE, PDF, Scholarly Google, Scopus, JSTORS to supports the outcome of the inquiry. Social Contract Theory by Auguste Comte, Classical and neo-classical theories by Schumpeter, Boulding, were adopted to justify the causes, consequences and solutions to youths unemployment in Nigeria. Community Rights Facing Criminal Law in a Human Rights Perspective
Get PDFLegal protection is one form of human rights that must be obtained by everyone, especially with regard to the application of criminal law that can have the impact of violations and restrictions on the freedom of others as a form of human rights. It is not uncommon for people's rights to be questioned or even contested when dealing with criminal law. To answer this problem, a study was conducted using the legal research method through a normative jurudical approach which was intended to collect secondary data obtained from the literature in the form of primary legal materials, secondary legal materials and tertiary legal materials. The materials collected were analyzed qualitatively descriptive. Based on the analysis conducted, it is clearly seen that people's rights in criminal law are part of human rights that must get respect and protection in order to maintain human dignity through efforts that include: equality before the law, presumption of innocent, non-retroactive and legal assistance, and not tortured, punishment or cruel, inhumane treatment, degrading human dignity and dignity, and not treated arbitrarily
