Foreign Direct Investment Led Growth Hypothesis and Economic Development in Nigeria
Get PDFThis study was an inquiry into the nexus of the foreign-direct investment (FDI) led growth hypothesis, and how it translates into the development of the Nigerian economy as of 1970 – 2018. The study utilized secondary data from the ‘World Development Indicators’ which were analysed using the Bounds test for cointegration and the ‘autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach to divulge both the short-term cum the long-term influence of foreign direct investment net inflow on ‘economic development’ of Nigeria. The Bounds test was conducted after the unit root test revealed that the variables were stationary at mixed order of level and first difference. The outcome of the ARDL Bounds test supported confirmation of long-term association among the variables. The ARDL short-run error correction showed that 14.62% of the instability in the model was corrected yearly. In the short-term, it was discovered that FDI wielded a deleterious and substantial weight on ‘economic development of Nigeria. Meanwhile, the long-term estimates indicated that FDI influenced economic development positively, though not in a significant manner. The Granger causality test supported the fact that FDI causes ‘economic development’ in Nigeria. Given this potential of FDI exerting a positive effect on ‘economic development’, the paper recommended that bottlenecks inherent in FDI influxes in the country should be removed so as to reap the fullest benefits of such inflows in Nigeria
The Development of Batak and Malay Batik Motif Stilation in Improving the Creative Industry in Indonesia
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to determine the stylization of Batak and Malay batik motifs by developing the shape of a typical Batak batik motif with a typical Malay batik motif and to determine the process of developing a Batak and Malay batik motif design. The target of the research is to create and produce designs of stylized Batak and Malay batik motifs and to conduct batik trials on fabrics with motifs that have been developed, so as to produce textile products in the form of a blend of batik cloth between two tribes in North Sumatra. The research method used is the development research method (R&D). The research model is the IDI (instructional, development, Institute) development model, which includes three stages: define, develop, evaluate. The define stage includes: identifying problems, needs analysis, motive characteristic analysis, design concept analysis. The develop stage includes: development of motif designs and validation of product results by experts (validators). The results showed that Batak and Malay batik products deserve to be developed as a creative industry. The first validation gave a score of 0.89, the second validation got a score of 0.86 and the third validation obtained a score of 0.94. The average value of the validation results is 0.89, so the results of research on the development of stylized Batak and Malay batik motifs are included in the appropriate category and can improve the creative industry in Indonesian

Unpacking Teacher’s Self-understanding in Technology Use during COVID-19 Pandemic
Get PDFThe spread of Covid-19 virus has suddenly forced face-to-face learning into online learning. These sudden changes give impacts to professional teaching and learning practices of teacher, teacher not only gives the material but also use technology maximally during this pandemic. The role of teachers and their professional self-understanding has become increasingly complex. This current study led to know about the teacher’s self-understanding in the use of technology during the pandemic. Based on the purpose of the study, this study adopted a small-scale case study with one participant who is an EFL teacher from one of private senior high school in Surakarta, Indonesia. This case study used semi-structure interviews and classroom observations for collecting data techniques. To collect the data, researcher used teacher’s self-understanding theory from Kelchtermans (1993). These teacher’s self-understanding has five components, (1) self-image; (2) self-esteem; (3) task-perception; (4) job motivation; and (5) future perspective. After collecting the data, researcher applied an interactive model analysis. The results showed that (1) teacher’s self-understanding in the use of technology becomes more positive. This understanding brings teacher to become part of booster teaches conducted by The Ministry of Education and Culture, and (2) the inclusion of informal, self-initiated, and self-regulated procedures has supported the modifications of these components of teacher’s self-understanding when she used technology
Synthesis of Research on Mathematical Thinking Development under the Lesson Study and Open Approach Context
Get PDFThe qualitative educational research synthesis of this paper is the incorporation of existing knowledge and the research results using Lesson Study and Open Approach innovations that relevant to the concern of students’ mathematical thinking development. The purpose of synthesis is to upsurge the generalization and pertinency of new knowledge development based on the results in incorporation the two innovations. Researchers employed document analysis to analyze the evidence of 266 postgraduate studies from the academic year 2003 to 2020. The research procedure consists of three stages. The results from the first stage showed that there are six research classifications identified, namely teacher and teaching, students and learning, assessment, classroom innovations, curriculum development, and educational policy. The research findings of the second phase indicated that there was a total of 210 studies (78.95%) were employing Open Approach incorporated in the Lesson Study process. Moreover, 53.33 percent are found in students and learning research classification. This is followed by 19.05 percent in teacher and teaching, 14.76 percent in classroom innovations, and 4.76 percent in assessment classifications. However, there was a limited of past postgraduate researchers interested to study curriculum development (4.29%) and educational policy (3.81%) research classifications. The findings of the final stage revealed that all the 210 postgraduate studies concerning the six research classifications are found to have different impacts on students’ mathematical thinking development. These effects occurred across a series of settings, synthesis approaches, expectations, and managing the Thailand Lesson Study Model
Storytelling in Online Classes as an Oral Communication Strategy during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Get PDFThe covid-19 pandemic has affected the students’ learning mentality as they become passive during online classes due to what is happening around them. The focus of teaching now is to make the students feel comfortable learning despite distractions caused by the pandemic. This paper presents storytelling as an oral communication strategy during online classes to be comfortable and motivated in their learning. This study used the descriptive research method that describes storytelling as an instructional strategy in online classes for students to be engaged and motivated to learn. The study's findings indicate that the use of stories and the act of telling personal stories have developed the students' expressive language and provided students the opportunity to express their ideas in a non-threatening environment. It proved that storytelling during the online class positively impacted the students’ oral communication skills. It helped students communicate their thoughts and feelings without fear of being judged. Moreover, it offered opportunities for students to participate in class.  
A Study of the Socioeconomic Impact of Mobile Phones on SMEs in the Waterloo Community, the Western Rural District of Sierra Leone
Get PDFTo assess the impact of mobile phones on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Waterloo Community, the researcher used qualitative research methods to do the study. It is selected with the intention of evaluating the socioeconomic impact on the use of mobile phones in the transport, Sand and stone mining as well as general merchandize/petty trading activities in the Waterloo community. Hence, simple random sampling technique was applied in selecting the number of participants that were involved in the study. The study discovered that the SMEs have contributed to socioeconomic development at certain level through the use of mobile phones. The impact of mobile phones in the Waterloo community involved: precise accounting and bookkeeping, making payments and collections, selling of products, and services to customers, connecting people, and increase business network opportunities and jobs creation.
The study further revealed the challenges faced by SMEs in their daily operations in the Waterloo community for example, increased competition from large firms, and multinational corporations, the ability to adjust to fast changing market demand, technological capacity, and change limitations linking knowledge, innovation, and creativity. Other challenges include lack of previous experience to run the SMEs, poor planning, no proper markets assessment, uncommercialized products, scanty marketing skills and lack of good corporate governance
Aspects Related to the Influence of Christianity on the Society
Get PDFIn this paper the author analyzes the influence of Christianity on society. There will be demonstrated that through its structure, man was created to live in the community. He discovers himself by relating to the world surrounding him, as it is argued by Martin Heidegger, and Martin Buber. Here we also include the relationship with the transcendent. The philosophical and sociological arguments help us understand the influence Christianity had on European society. The religion of the European nations had a strong influence on the civilization of the continent and the world. Researchers have come to the conclusion that man was created with an innate religious feeling. Rudolf Otto sought to demonstrate that man's religious experience can only be explained by the aprioric existence of the sacred. So did Mircea Eliade, who introduced a new term "hierophany" to define the act of experiencing the sacred. There were also researchers who reinterpreted the relationship with the sacred. Emile Durkheim argued that ultimately, religion in its present form will be replaced by a so-called "civic religion," which will replace religious services in churches. Accepting the perspective of Scripture, the author tries to show the idea of the presence of Divinity in the believer's life (John 14:15-26). Jurgen Moltman asserts that if society were to enter the process of Christ's discipleship, she would discover the divine alternatives that bring the long-awaited results. Max Weber argued that Christian religion, and especially the sects of Protestantism, had a decisive role in influencing the culture and civilization of modern Europe, and the world at large. From his point of view, the decision of man in capitalist society to make a great effort in his work, has a religious motivation, namely, the doctrine of predestination. Considering that the moral and theological dimension of Christianity lies at the root of human significance, Christians struggle to defend the revealed message. A good example is given by Francis Schaeffer, who in his book Trilogy pleads to preserve the traditional moral values of the Bible.
