Gender Imbalance in Teaching Profession and Learning Outcome in Mathematics in Primary Schools in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State
The study assessed the imbalances in teaching profession in both public and private Nursery and Primary Schools, Public Secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State to determine the percentage/ ratio of imbalance and its relationship to learning outcome in mathematics at the primary school level. The study employed the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised of all the seventy public and private Nursery and Primary Schools and thirty two public Secondary Schools with six hundred and sixty teachers in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. The data generated were analysed using the chi-square statistics. The findings from the study revealed that there was significant gender imbalance in teaching profession in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. The worst hit is the public nursery and primary school with an imbalance percentage of 78.87% and 21.13% in favour of female teachers while the private schools have a percentage imbalance of 76.02% and 23.98% in favour of female teachers. The female pupils’ performance in mathematics was better than that of the male pupils. The study revealed that at the secondary school the imbalance was significant at the junior secondary school level and milled at the senior secondary. The study recommended the immediate reversal of the trend of imbalance by employing more male teachers into the public and private nursery and primary schools. This will improve the academic achievement of male pupils in mathematics, hence achieving the best practice in Nigeria education
The Impact of Organizational Culture on Educational Sector Workers of Paktika Province of Afghanistan
Organizational culture is a believe system exists among the workers of an organization. Through organizational culture, organizations can be distinguished from each others. It is precious to inform the organization's managers and all workers about the organizational culture. The aim of this study is to find out the presence of organizational culture in educational sector workers of Paktika province of Afghanistan. Daniel Denison's organizational culture model is used in this research. Denison's model has four main aspects (involvement, consistency, adaptability and mission), that an organization must have in order to be an effective organization. In this study, the mixed research method (Quantitative and Qualitative) is used whereas questionnaire and interview tools were used for data collection. The administrative staff of the educational sector of Paktika province (University, Directorate of Education, Directorate of Information and Culture, and Directorate of Olympic), numbering up to 120, has been selected as a statistical population for the research. The results of this research are somehow similar to the previous researches done in Afghanistan. Generally, it is seen that working activities of educational sector staff of Paktika province is influenced by organizational culture. The results of this research show that, based on Denison model of organizational culture, educational sector workers of Paktika province has 65% of effective organizational culture and the mission aspect was potent than other aspects of organizational culture
Totalitarianism in George Orwell's Animal Farm
The Animal Farm attempts at representing a realistic analysis of the revolution and changing of systems and regimes. However, change may not be necessarily a positive one as long as there is not a just and fair system upon which the sons of the revolutions depend. As history has proved, the majority of revolutions fail to achieve the utopian goals they had been seeking. Then, it fails to achieve the goals that are sought from it. Eventually, the reality becomes worse than that which it aimed to change. Since the theme of this novel is applicable for all people in any place at any time, and the big role that political discourse played in its event, we have chosen it to be our subject to analyze and discuss in our graduation project. After this short abstract, we will present an introduction in which we show the author’s contribution in the world of literature, his famous works and their significance. After that, we move on to deal with the language and discourse, rhetoric speech and discourse of Orwel and his ideology. The we tend to cover the author’s life, political discourse, and finally the political discourse of the author in The Animal Farm. We end our paper with a conclusion which includes our points of view to the importance of the political discourse in the novel and the moral lessons the mankind can draw out from such great piece of literature
Management Model of Unda River in the Development of Traditional Village Based on Custom Village in Paksebali Village Klungkung Bali
This research is intended to identify the water resources management model carried out by Paksebali Village in the development of Tourism Villages in Klungkung Regency. Water resources (SDA) managemet in the development of tourism villages through coexistence between the Customary Villages and the Dinas (state) Villages which are oriented towards empowering rural communities for community welfare. So the Paksebali Village can coexit both the legal structure and the legal substance of the use of Unda River's surface water as a water attraction, restaurant, prewed in the development of new tourist destinations in Klungkung Regency through the development of a tourism village
Mothers’ Knowledge, Attitude and Practice regarding Prevention of Diarrhea among Children: An Empirical Investigation
The descriptive type of cross-sectional study was carried out to find out the mothers’ knowledge, attitude and practice regarding the prevention of diarrhea among children at Kamarpara Slum Area, Dhaka. In this study, 110 mothers were interviewed. It was found from the current study that the age distribution of the study population, out of total 110 respondents, 46.4% of the respondents belongs to the age group 20-29 years. The study showed that only 47.3% of women have completed primary education, majority of the respondents (69.1%) lived in kacha house, above half of the respondents (62.7%) agreed that diarrhea means passage of loose or watery stools >3 times in 24 hours, majority of the respondents (46.4%) got information from TV, most of the respondent’s children (88.2%) suffered from diarrhea, most of the respondents (70.9%) had given EBF to their child during diarrhea where as 29.1% didn’t practice EBF during diarrhea. Most of the respondents (79.1%) were aware about the causes of diarrhea,74.5% respondents had knowledge on danger signs of diarrhea, 25.5% didn’t know about danger signs of diarrhea.85.5% respondents said that diarrhea can be prevented by drinking clean water.75.5% respondents said that hand washing prevents diarrhea,46.4% respondents drinks water from Tube-well, majority of the respondents (55.5%) used sanitary latrine, 36.4% used non-sanitary latrine,20% respondents didn’t wash their hands properly,33.6% washed their hands with plain water,58.2% respondents placing child’s stool in toilet, 87.3% respondents gave ORS to their child during diarrhea, more than half of the respondents didn’t know the preservation time of ORS, only 22.7% said the preservation time of ORSis10-12 hours. 81.8% of the respondents cut nail timely. In conclusion the knowledge of mothers on diarrhea was poor there is a need for extensive educational interventions of mothers about childhood diarrhea to reduce the suffering from dehydration of children
The Child-Friendly School Program for Developing a Character School in the Primary Schools of Binjai City, Indonesia
This research is a qualitative research in the form of a case study. This research is conducted at Binjai State Elementary School, Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to implement a child-friendly school program and develop student character programmed in the Primary Schools of Binjai Ciy, Indonesia. The respondents of this study are principals and teachers. The results of this study are child-friendly school policies at Primary Schools of Binjai City encourage all school residents to care about the school environment and be anti-violent so that the atmosphere at school becomes healthy, safe and comfortable. The formation of the character of students through child-friendly schools Primary Schools of Binjai City is going well because the teachers at the school have formed the character of students including students who are diligent and diligent in learning, respect for teachers, discipline, respect each other so as to form a community friendly study. Child-friendly school programs are very effective in forming a safe and conducive school environment and supporting the development of student character, in addition to encouraging schools to develop infrastructure to support learning. The study also found that some schools still have obstacles in developing a school culture for the direction of child-friendly schools. In general, Primary Schools of Binjai City has implemented child-friendly education, where the school has attempted various programs and activities in implementing child-friendly education
Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) Activities and the Students’ English Oral Proficiency
The study aimed to determine the impact of Computer Assisted Language Learning Activities to the oral English Proficiency of JEEP 1 students. The students' pre and post mean scores were compared to determine the significant improvement in their oral English proficiency. This research made used of the experimental research design with pre and post-test design with 58 randomly selected students from different year levels who were enrolled at Mindanao State University- Maguindanao and currently taking the subject JEEP 1 of the S.Y. 2014-2015. The instrument used covered four specific areas as Sentence Reading, Reading and Pronunciation, Comprehension and Structure, and Sentence Repetition. The following are the summary of the findings: 1. Before the CALL Activities in JEEP 1, the students’ oral English proficiency is lower elementary as indicated by the mean of 0.60; After engaging to the CALL Activities, the students’ oral English proficiency is still lower elementary as proven by the mean score of 0.79; and After comparing the results, it was found out that there is a substantial transformation in the students' oral English proficiency level before and after Computer Assisted Language Learning Activities in JEEP 1 as indicated by the t-Value of 2.84. Based on the results of the study, it was determined that CALL Activities have contributed slight improvement to the student’s oral English proficiency score. However, the said activities did not improve their oral English proficiency level possibly due to some unknown factors that might have affected them during the duration of the study
Analysis of the Application of the Online Learning System (Spada) to Increase Student Learning Activities during the Covid-19 Pandemic
This study aims to explore student learning activities at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Prima Indonesia (Unpri) during the pandemic through Spada. This needs to be done because there are significant differences in the learning system. The transfer of face-to-face learning methods to virtual distance learning, namely Spada, triggers the emergence of a direct effect on student learning activities. This study applies a qualitative descriptive approach with survey methods and semi-experimental methods that apply hypothesis testing. The sampling technique used cluster random sampling with the research sample being Indonesian Language and Literature Education students who were at level 3. This sample was grouped into 4 parallel classes. Observations showed that student learning activities in Spada who consistently attended every meeting were 62.2%. The survey also shows that 52.7% are interested in face-to-face learning. Students are known to often access lecture materials that are not in accordance with the time of admission. And a report on Spada shows that the average material access period lasts less than 20 minutes. Students tend to ignore the resources and learning activities implemented in Spada. The results of the questionnaire confirmed the existence of obstacles in student learning activities through Spada by 47.5%. Researchers also attempted to conduct experiments on the assessment of learning outcomes through the one-way ANOVA test. The result is p>0.05 and shows the acceptance of H0 that there is no difference in student learning outcomes between classes. So it can be proven that the application of Spada has not been able to increase the learning activities of different students during the pandemic
Characterization of Climate Change Communication: Implication for Environmental Sustainability in Ogba, Egbema, Ndoni Local Government Area of River State, Nigeria
Communicating climate change occurrence in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State was the key interest of this study due to the incessant environmental degradation caused by multinational oil and gas companies in the area. This study used multi-stage cluster sampling technique and administered four hundred (400) questionnaires in a study population of 445,760 persons determined by Taro Yamane statistical technique. The findings revealed that the stakeholders felt that climate change really occurred in the area but had not adequately adapted to the impact of climate change with 69.3% showing poor preparedness to climate change adaptation. The radio, television and town-hall meeting were the most effective media of climate change communication, but social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram et cetera were poorly used to communicate climate change phenomenon. Thus, the indigenous town-crying communication medium showed 95% response of disagreement of not being used to inform the stakeholders of climate change occurrence. However, 68% response revealed that the government was not concerned with climate change communication in the area, rather, Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and the host companies relatively showed concerned in communicating climate change occurrence to the stakeholders. The result indicated that the level of climate change occurrence did not statistically significantly relate with climate change communication in the area. Thus, it was recommended that community stakeholders should have access to weather information, agricultural extension services, educational and school curriculums should integrate climate change communication, indigenous knowledge and communication media should be used as well as government should be serious with issues of climate change communication so as to cushion the effects of climate change impact in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria
