Work Experience as a Determinant of Salary Growth in Malaysia
ABSTRACT
Identifying the factors that influence salary progression is critical for examining employment market dynamics and income distribution. Work experience is often a key factor in shaping career development and long-term earnings. This study examines at the association between years of work experience and monthly salary among 96 Malaysian workers aged 18 to 57. Descriptive findings reveal that more than 80% of respondents earn less than RM6,000 per month, with the majority in their early to mid-career stages. Correlation analysis revealed a strong and statistically significant relationship between experience and salary (ρ = 0.752, p-value < 0.05). Regression results indicated that every additional year of experience leads to an average increase of RM222 in monthly salary, which accounts for 56.6% of the variation in earnings. The findings highlight the importance of experience in driving salary growth, while also highlighting disparities by employment sector, marital status, and residential area. Overall, the study demonstrates that Malaysian salaries are determined by both individual career development and broader social and economic conditions
Uncovering Patterns: LEPT Performance of Secondary Takers of Father Saturnino University for Curricular Enhancement
This study examines the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LEPT) performance of secondary test-takers from Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU), distinguishing between education and non-education graduates. Covering four examination periods from January 2022 to March 2024, it employs a descriptive-correlational design using secondary data from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). Descriptive and inferential statistical methods, including T-tests, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and One-Way ANOVA, were used to analyze participation and performance patterns. Findings indicate that graduates from programs closely aligned with the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) curriculum and corresponding LEPT majors generally performed well. No significant differences were found between unit earners from Nursing and Accountancy compared to Teacher Education Program (TEP) takers. However, significant differences emerged in the performance of Business Administration and Computer Studies graduates compared to TEP takers. Time elapsed between graduation and taking the LEPT was shorter among passers, though no direct correlation was found between time since graduation and licensure performance. Instead, the time since completing the required 18 professional education units appeared more influential. Furthermore, no significant differences in LEPT performance were observed across the four examination periods, indicating stable performance trends. To improve licensure outcomes, the study suggests offering a Teacher Certificate Program, strengthening alumni support, implementing early intervention programs, and integrating a licensure review component into the curriculum, particularly for non-education graduates. These strategies aim to enhance test preparedness and support students in obtaining professional teaching certification
The Dynamics of Vulnerability, Agency and Mental Health Challenges among Students
Students in higher education face challenges stemming from academic, financial, and social stressors, which can have a significant impact on their mental health and well-being. However, the influence of students' vulnerability and agency on mental health has not been fully examined. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between vulnerability, agency, and mental health challenges among students at South Cotabato State College, focusing on academic, financial, and social dimensions. The study employed a descriptive-correlational design, with 280 students selected through stratified random sampling. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data. Results indicated a strong positive correlation between vulnerability and mental health challenges, suggesting that higher vulnerability levels are associated with greater mental health struggles. In contrast, agency showed a very weak negative correlation with mental health challenges, indicating that although students exhibited high levels of agency, it did not significantly reduce mental health issues. These findings imply the need for comprehensive support systems that address vulnerabilities, especially in academic, financial, and social contexts, while also considering students' agency in relation to broader environmental factors. It is recommended that educational institutions integrate targeted programs that mitigate vulnerability and support mental health without solely relying on individual attributes. Further research could expand on these findings by examining additional variables influencing student well-being
Borrowing from '5-6' Lenders: Examining the Link Between Street Vendors' Profiles and Informal Borrowing Practices
This study examined the borrowing practices of street vendors in the Cogon public market, Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, with a specific focus on their reliance on the informal "5-6" lending system. The research assesses the relationship between street vendors' profiles (such as age, sex, type of products sold, and estimated daily sales) and their borrowing practices, including loan amount, interest rates, payment schemes, and the frequency of reborrowing. Utilizing a cross-sectional quantitative design, data were collected from 251 street vendors engaged in "5-6" lending. Chi-square tests were used to analyze the associations between vendor profiles and borrowing practices. Results revealed that most street vendors borrowed small-scale loans of P5,001-P10,000 (174.45), often with high interest rates of 20% over a two-month period, paying daily, which created a continuous debt and reborrowing cycle. Significant associations were found between age, daily sales, and credit value, as well as between product type, sex, and the frequency of reborrowing. The study concludes that the informal lending system imposes substantial financial burdens on street vendors, particularly women and those selling fast-moving goods, contributing to a cycle of debt dependency
Privacy, Promotion, and Platform Pitfalls: The Case of How Telegram’s Marketing Approach Inadvertently Attracted Illicit Actors
ABSTRACT
This paper examines how Telegram's market positioning, digital marketing strategies, and privacy-oriented business model have unintentionally created an attractive environment for criminal activities. Applying established marketing frameworks—including the Segmentation, Targeting, Positioning (STP) model and the marketing mix (4Ps: Product, Price, Place, Promotion)—alongside consumer behavior theories of trust and anonymity, this study analyzes Telegram's business practices. A comprehensive literature review on platform marketing, digital anonymity, cybersecurity, and darknet market theory provides contextual grounding within broader academic discussions. The analysis reveals that Telegram's broad market positioning, minimal governance, and emphasis on user privacy significantly facilitate criminal activities, such as identity theft, drug trafficking, and dissemination of illicit materials. The paper proposes strategic and policy recommendations emphasizing the importance of achieving a balance between safeguarding user privacy and mitigating the exploitation of digital platforms for illicit purposes. This research uniquely integrates traditional marketing frameworks and consumer behavior theories with cybersecurity literature to evaluate Telegram’s unintended role in enabling online criminal ecosystems
Exploring the Lived Experiences of Senior High School English Teachers: Challenges, Impact and Coping Strategies in K To 12 Curriculum Implementation
This study examines the problems, effects, and coping mechanisms of Senior High School English Teachers in the implementation of the K to 12 Curriculums. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What are the challenges of Senior High School Teachers in terms of: 1.1 teaching methodologies, and 1.2 student assessment? 2. How do these challenges affect the teaching and learning process, particularly students in terms of:2.1. Student’s engagement; and 2.2 Student's English proficiency? 3. What coping strategies or interventions have teachers employed to address these challenges? The experiences of five English instructors from Cotabato City National High School-Rojas were analyzed using a qualitative phenomenological study approach. The findings showed that varying learning styles, resource constraints, and linguistic barriers had an impact on issues in pedagogical approaches, evaluation, and student participation. These obstacles were associated with reluctance, nervousness, and constraints in students' English competence, impeding classroom performance. Strategies such as project-based learning, blended learning, and motivational tactics were utilized to overcome these challenges. Recommendations encompass the implementation of differentiated education, the provision of sufficient resources for new pedagogical methods, and the enhancement of flexible learning methodologies to foster student participation. The study underscores the necessity of tailoring teaching methods to accommodate varied student requirements and utilizing new strategies to address issues in K to 12 Curriculum implementations
