Shadow economy interconnection with maritime sector development in coastal European countries /
In this article, the authors analyze the interconnection between shadow economy and maritime sector development in coastal European countries. The article provides scientific analysis review of shadow economy and maritime sector, their importance and interconnection; and also examines the current trends of shadow economy and maritime sector in the selected countries. Additionally, the authors raise the hypothesis about the interconnectivity of shadow economy and maritime sector development, which are later tested using the regression model (based on the MIMIC methodology). Models aim to distinguish the relationship between shadow economy and the factors which impacts maritime sector development. The research results show that there is a significant relationship between shadow economy and main maritime sector impacts factors. During the research, the authors have identified that an increase of production value (operating profit), personnel costs and the number of employees in the companies operating in the maritime industry, will lead to decrease of shadow economy in coastal European countries. Furthermore, shadow economy decreases as weight handled in these countries’ ports increases. On the other hand, the research findings show that as the number of companies operating in the maritime industry and their turnover increase, the shadow economy could increase as well
Expression of relation between addresser and addressee in Lithuanian, Spanish and Norwegian online advertising.
As the world becomes more global, communication with other countries is increasing. In order to communicate between representatives of different countries, it is necessary not only to know the language, but also to understand the culture of communication. Language is considered one of the external manifestations of cultural difference alongside external behaviour. Each country‘s language at a particular period of time may comprise an indefinite number of communication genres and subgenres, various hybrid texts that perform one or another function and are used in different fields of activity
Ecosystem services of the Baltic Sea: An assessment and mapping perspective /
The Baltic Sea is essential for marine ecosystem services (MES) provision and the region's socio-economic dynamics. It is considered one of the busiest and most polluted regional seas in Europe. In recent years a collective effort in enforcing European and regional environmental policies and directives (e.g. Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC, 2000; Marine Strategy Framework Directive 2008/56/EC, 2008; Maritime Spatial Planning Directive 2014/89/EU, 2014) has been carried out. Ecosystem Services assessment and mapping is integrated into these directives. An increasing number of scientific studies, projects, and other works were developed in this context, generating a vast body of knowledge. Despite all efforts to improve the Baltic Sea's environmental status, the targets established were not fulfilled. It is also important to analyze if current methodological approaches for assessing and mapping MES are robust enough to provide the needed results. This perspective paper analyses the status of assessment and mapping methodologies. The results showed that most of the studies were focused on qualitative assessments, with limited validation and reliability. Although the number of robust and quantitative works is increasing, more are needed. It is vital to carry out quantitative assessments to inform decision-makers better and standardize MES practices across the Baltic Sea
The impact of quality management practice implementation in an organization on the psycho-emotional well-being of employees /
This article presents the challenges and opportunities the application of a quality management practice in healthcare organizations presents in view of the psycho-emotional well-being of employees when implementing quality management practices. The article addresses the academic challenge of the impact implementation of a quality management practice has on the emotional well-being of employees, which is formulated as the following conundrum: does an implemented quality management practice improve the emotional well-being of employees. Although studies show that a quality management practice put in place has a positive impact on the quality of work, the introduction of a quality management practice sometimes has a negative impact on the emotional well-being of employees. The objective - to assess the impact of a quality management practice implementation on the emotional well-being of employees – has been met. Analysis and synthesis methods were applied, and a quantitative survey of 285 workers in three healthcare organizations was conducted. It was established that although all employees of organizations surveyed experience stressful situations at work, they feel better in organizations where a quality management practice is in place than in those where the practice is not in place. Therefore, we can argue that the implementation of a quality management practice improves the emotional well-being of employees
The relationship between exam stress, identity style and anxiety in senjor high-shool students.
The aim of the work was to: 1) evaluate the indicators of students' reactions to exam stress, identity style and anxiety and compare them according to the subjects’ sociodemographic characteristics; 2) identify possible correlations between the selected variables and use them to evaluate the prognostic value of high school students' anxiety and identity style indicators for exam stress. The study involved 164 students (101 female and 63 male) in grades 10-12. Their age was 16 - 19 years (M=17.3; SD=0.91). Examination Stress Scale for Adolescent Students (Sung, Chao, 2014) was used to assess the responses to exam stress; the identity style was determined by the 5th version of the Identity Style Inventory (Berzonsky, Soenens, Luyckx, Smits, Papini, & Goossens, 2013), and anxiety was measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch, & Lushene, 1970). Exam stress responses have been found to be more pronounced in females, their identity styles are more mature than those in males, but they experience a stronger sense of anxiety. Individual responses to exam stress, anxiety and identity styles are related to the students’ age and progress. The following key relationships between the exam stress, identity states and anxiety among students have been revealed: 1) students with a more mature identity style are characterised by stronger responses to the exam stress; 2) the stronger the expression of anxiety in high school, the more exam stress they experience. Regression analysis of the results revealed that more mature identity styles and reactive and personal anxiety predict students’ responses to the exam stress
Factors regulating the coastal nutrient filter in the Baltic Sea /
The coastal zone of the Baltic Sea is diverse with strong regional differences in the physico-chemical setting. This diversity is also reflected in the importance of different biogeochemical processes altering nutrient and organic matter fluxes on the passage from land to sea. This review investigates the most important processes for removal of nutrients and organic matter, and the factors that regulate the efficiency of the coastal filter. Nitrogen removal through denitrification is high in lagoons receiving large inputs of nitrate and organic matter. Phosphorus burial is high in archipelagos with substantial sedimentation, but the stability of different burial forms varies across the Baltic Sea. Organic matter processes are tightly linked to the nitrogen and phosphorus cycles. Moreover, these processes are strongly modulated depending on composition of vegetation and fauna. Managing coastal ecosystems to improve the effectiveness of the coastal filter can reduce eutrophication in the open Baltic Sea
Japonijos kraštutinės dešinės raida ir formos: konservatyviųjų aktyvistų atvejis.
This dissertation examines the expression of Japanese far-right groups in the Internet space, which has not been studied in Lithuania previously. From the beginning of 21st century the intensification of internet use and the deteriorating attitude towards Korea and Koreans in Japan have led to a rapid increase in incitement to hatred and hate speech. Makoto Sakurai, a conservative activist, mobilized anonymous hate activists on the Internet to form the first organization of its kind in Japan, called Zaitokukai (short for "Civic Society that Disagrees with Special Privileges for Zainichi Koreans) and other pro-civic movements. The thesis investigated how the formation and development of far-right groups is related to the narrative created by far-right leaders (socially skilled actors). The aim of the dissertation is to analyze the development of the far right in Japan, the formation of strategic action fields, ideological guidelines, the identity features of conservative activists and the forms of expression of activism. In order to achieve the goal, following tasks were set up: • to examine the features of the development and activities of conservative activists and extreme right-wing activism (from the Meiji restoration to the end of the Heisei era); • to create a model of connection to social movements, explaining the relationship between the narrative and the motivation of potential participants to join; • to explore the essential features of narrative-formed identity and their relationship to the far right in Japan
Development of Šventoji camping using geothermal mineral water.
This work analyzes development of Šventoji camping using geothermal mineral water. Šventoji is a resort site on the Baltic Sea, a part of the resort that was integrated with Palanga back in 1970. Although Palanga is a well-known international resort, Šventoji remains only a part of it usually chosen by the holiday makers looking for a cheaper accommodation. While in terms of recreation Šventoji is extremely attractive, this resort has so far been unable to solve the problem of seasonality and shortage of tourist attractions. Yet, more and more scientists and experts pay attention to the still unused local natural resources. The seaside region which the resort of Palanga (Šventoji) belongs to has a unique natural treasure – the Western Lithuanian Geothermal Water Anomaly. A possibility is being considered to found in Šventoji a unique camping in compliance with the European standards with a geothermal water well not found anywhere else either in Lithuania or in all the Baltic States using the advantages of Šventoji infrastructure. The first part of the master’s paper presents analysis of theoretical data – documents and scientific sources are analyzed, the peculiarities of existing offer and demand for campings, legal environment, types of campings in Lithuania and on the international tourism market, motives of the tourists who prefer a camping for accommodation are studied. The variety and innovation of use of thermal water for recreation, importance of innovations in the tourism sector are also analyzed, the paper provides analysis of the camping market in the Northern Europe, defines the notion of the Western Lithuanian region. The second part describes methods of studies of feasibility of development of Šventoji camping using geothermal mineral water. The third part presents the results of the study – analysis of reviews provided by the Western Lithuania’s camping services consumers along with analysis and interpretation of a semi-structured interviews. Based on the analysis of scientific literature, documents, statistical analysis, analysis of the camping market in the Northern Europe and on the interpretation and content analysis of semi-structured interviews a model of development of Šventoji camping using geothermal mineral water was suggested. In the end of the third part one can find conclusions and suggestions
“If anyone slaps you on the right cheek...” – creativity in building positive interpersonal relationships.
The article discusses the words of Jesus Christ: “If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also” (Mt 5:39), “If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them” (Lk 6:29), “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles” (Mt 5:41). Analysis of Jesus radical call to forgive reveals that forgiveness is neither unlimited tolerance nor approval of evil. The act of forgiveness is directed towards the person and not the bad deed. Therefore, the analysed part of the scripture in this article is one of the frequently misinterpreted quotes about the connection to other people, about benevolent acceptance of others, about forgiveness and mercy. These quotes are commonly interpreted outside the circumstances when they were used and understood as promotion of humble and meek behaviour only. Indeed, Jesus said these words to teach to forgive creatively and to be active. He also provided guidelines for creative behaviour to build positive interpersonal and international relationships
