    Research of organic rankine cycle energy characteristics at operating modes of marine diesel engine /

    The publication examines one of the most effective ways to decarbonize marine transport, specifically the secondary heat sources utilization in the cogeneration cycle of the main engines. The research focuses on the optimization of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) performance parameters by combining them with the exhaust energy potential of a medium speed four-stroke main diesel engine in ISO8178 (E3) load cycle modes. Significant advantages were not found between the evaluated Wet-, Isentropic-, and Dry-type liquids (R134a, R141b, R142b, R245fa, Isopentane) in terms of ORC energy performance with a 10% difference. The use of a variable geometry turbogenerator turbine with Dry-type (R134a) working fluid is characterized by the highest ORC energy efficiency up to 15% and an increase in power plant (including turbogenerator generated mechanical) by 6.2%. For a fixed geometry turbine, a rational control strategy of the working fluid flow (Gd.sk − πT) is determined by the priorities of the power plant in certain load modes. The influence of the overboard water temperature on the ORC energy indicators does not exceed ±1%; however, it influences the thermodynamic saturation parameters of the working fluid condensation and, in connection with that, the fluid selection

    The Curonian Lagoon (SE Baltic Sea) and the coastal wetland system play a vital role in maintaining the overall cultural, economic and ecological health of the region. However, its value is still largely underestimated and there is a lack of integrated ecosystem management based on multiple ecosystem services assessment. In this study, 34 ecosystem services (ES) were identified, assessed and mapped following the Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services (CICES). Using expert opinion, 35 land cover classes were scored for their ES potential, these being 15 CORINE land cover classes (CLC) and 20 Natura 2000 areas of conservation (habitat types, i.e., Sites of Community Importance). The total ES potential was calculated by averaging the opinions of experts, using self-confidence scoring as weights, and the ES relative importance index was derived from a questionnaire. As a result, three maps corresponding to each ES potential category (provisioning, regulation and maintenance and cultural) were calculated and further used for hot- and coldspot analyses. Regulation and maintenance and cultural ES were highly interrelated and had the highest potential in the studied area. Forested areas had the highest total ES potential and contributed significantly to the land cover of the ES hotspots

    Identification of good practices in long-term exercise-based rehabilitation programs in stroke patients /

    Physical activity is an important factor for primary and secondary stroke prevention. The process of stroke rehabilitation includes early and late physical activity and exercise, which prevents further stoke and improve patients’ quality of life. MY WAY project, an ERASMUS+ SPORT program, is aimed at analyzing and developing or transferring best innovative practices related to physical activity and exercise enhancing health in poststroke patients. The aim of the study was to identify, analyze, and present the good practices and strategies to encourage participation in sport and physical activity and engage and motivate chronic stroke patients to perform physical activity changing their lifestyle and to maintain a high adherence to long-term exercise-based rehabilitation programs. Our results demonstrated that unified European stroke long-term exercise-based rehabilitation guidelines do not exist. It seems that low training frequency with high aerobic exercise intensity may be optimal for improved physical performance and quality of life in combination with a high adherence. It is important to optimize the training protocols suitable for each patient. The continuous education and training of the specialized professionals in this field and the presence of adequate structures and cooperation between different healthcare centers are important contributors. The clear objective for each country should be to systematically make the necessary steps to enhance overall exercise-based stroke rehabilitation attendance in the long term. Long-term interventions to support the importance of physical exercise and lifelong exercise-based rehabilitation in chronic stroke patients should be created, what coincides with the goal of the MY WAY project

    The verb ‘taikyti’ in texts a bout health: is it a neces sary expansion of the meaning or Incorrect use?

    This article analyses the correct use of phrases with the verb taikyti. It discusses the semantic structure of the word, and its different interpretations in dictionaries of the Lithuanian language. Data is collected from the ‘Corpus of the Modern Lithuanian Language’, sources about various functional styles, and a survey. It shows the real contemporary usage of the verb taikyti in texts related to health. The correctness of the use of the examples collected is analysed, and special attention is paid to problematic cases that require a more detailed analysis. The research indicates that for some phrases with taikyti which users view as correct, better contextual equivalents can be found

    A fully-annotated imagery dataset of sublittoral benthic species in Svalbard, Arctic /

    Underwater imagery is widely used for a variety of applications in marine biology and environmental sciences, such as classification and mapping of seabed habitats, marine environment monitoring and impact assessment, biogeographic reconstructions in the context of climate change, etc. This approach is relatively simple and cost-effective, allowing the rapid collection of large amounts of data. However, due to the laborious and time-consuming manual analysis procedure, only a small part of the information stored in the archives of underwater images is retrieved. Emerging novel deep learning methods open up the opportunity for more effective, accurate and rapid analysis of seabed images than ever before. We present annotated images of the bottom macrofauna obtained from underwater video recorded in Spitsbergen island's European Arctic waters, Svalbard Archipelago. Our videos were filmed in both the photic and aphotic zones of polar waters, often influenced by melting glaciers. We used artificial lighting and shot close to the seabed (<1 m) to preserve natural colours and avoid the distorting effect of muddy water. The underwater video footage was captured using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and a drop-down camera. The footage was converted to 2D mosaic images of the seabed. 2D mosaics were manually annotated by several experts using the Labelbox tool and co-annotations were refined using the SurveyJS platform. A set of carefully annotated underwater images associated with the original videos can be used by marine biologists as a biological atlas, as well as practitioners in the fields of machine vision, pattern recognition, and deep learning as training materials for the development of various tools for automatic analysis of underwater imagery

    This article aims to identify what digital and entrepreneurial competences are required in a concept of New Work orientated labor market. To achieve this, the research takes a two-folded approach by breaking down how digitalisation changes the role of employees in a digital and automated world, which competences and organisational structures are required for a successful adaption of digitalisation in the company and what the digital awareness and the current transformation status in small and medium-sized companies in Bavaria (Germany) and Lithuania looks like. The research methods chosen to deal with a scientific problem in the theoretical part include an analysis of literature sources, systematisation, synthesis, generalisation, and comparison. The status of the research findings shows that digitalisation has arrived in companies, but especially small and medium-sized companies have to overcome various barriers. The focus on employees as stakeholders is crucial to these adaptation processes. Primary research has shown that the employer´s and employee´s sides have recognized the importance of implementation. Nevertheless, there is room for adjustments. Both sides also need to find their own path to adapt requirements and expectations, to start a successful cooperation. It could help adapt to rapidly changing market trends and link stakeholders via user-friendly technology, just because this technology is created through strategic collaboration activities (Laužikas, Miliūtė, 2020)

    Coastal countries have traditionally relied on the existing marine resources (e.g., fishing, food, transport, recreation, and tourism) as well as tried to support new economic endeavors (ocean energy, desalination for water supply, and seabed mining). Modern societies and lifestyle resulted in an increased demand for dietary diversity, better health and well-being, new biomedicines, natural cosmeceuticals, environmental conservation, and sustainable energy sources. These societal needs stimulated the interest of researchers on the diverse and underexplored marine environments as promising and sustainable sources of biomolecules and biomass, and they are addressed by the emerging field of marine (blue) biotechnology. Blue biotechnology provides opportunities for a wide range of initiatives of commercial interest for the pharmaceutical, biomedical, cosmetic, nutraceutical, food, feed, agricultural, and related industries. This article synthesizes the essence, opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges encountered in marine biotechnology and outlines the attainment and valorization of directly derived or bio-inspired products from marine organisms. First, the concept of bioeconomy is introduced. Then, the diversity of marine bioresources including an overview of the most prominent marine organisms and their potential for biotechnological uses are described. This is followed by introducing methodologies for exploration of these resources and the main use case scenarios in energy, food and feed, agronomy, bioremediation and climate change, cosmeceuticals, bio-inspired materials, healthcare, and well-being sectors. The key aspects in the fields of legislation and funding are provided, with the emphasis on the importance of communication and stakeholder engagement at all levels of biotechnology development. Finally, vital overarching concepts, such as the quadruple helix and Responsible Research and Innovation principle are highlighted as important to follow within the marine biotechnology field.     Recently, systems of customer service quality management have become increasingly popular, helping to maintain high quality communication with customers, monitor and control the quality of customer service. The aim of the thesis is to create a model that enables the organization to ensure comprehensive customer service quality supervision after identifying and analysing the factors of customer service quality (in the context of business-to-business). In the first part of the thesis, the analysis of the factors determining the quality of customer service is performed, identifying the factors that are important in the development and implementation of customer service quality supervision systems. A model of customer service quality supervision has been developed, the purpose of which is to optimize the quality of services provided by the organization, ensuring a continuous improvement at different stages of the service provision process. In the second part of the thesis, the service delivery process is grouped into three stages (initial contact with the customer of service, service design, service provision and post-provision service); the research methodology is grounded which consists of expert evaluation and survey of foreign and Lithuanian customers of the company. After conducting the analysis, in the third part of the work, according to the developed model of complex customer service quality supervision, the service provision process is divided into separate stages according to the compliance with the company’s business processes. The main goal of the model of customer service quality supervision is to increase the perceived value of the provided services by shortening the service delivery time and meeting the terms of the contract, improving the employee service process, considering the customer requirements and all resources related to the process
