Competing Influences and Dialectal Models in the Language of Boeotian Proxeny Decrees (4th to 2nd Century BCE)
International audienceStudies of proxeny decrees, which granted a range of honours and privileges to foreign dignitaries, have often focused on the historical implications of these documents, the nationality of the proxenoi or the honours conferred, or, from a linguistic perspective, the choice of dialect used. This paper aims to examine the entire corpus of Boeotian proxeny decrees (4th to 2nd century BCE, 150+ inscriptions) in order to explore the different dialectal models which influenced the fixed wording of these documents, as well as the historical and political factors behind this process

International audienceThis article tells the story of an exemplary collaboration between an artist, Robert Lesbounit, and an architect, Pierre Pocorull, to decorate buildings at the Donges oil refinery (Loire-Atlantique, France) in 1958. The story originates from the vision of a modernist manager, Jacques Riboud, who, like others at the time, believed that art could contribute to the humanization of the factory. It is also based on the close relationship between the artist—who had given up easel painting in favor of monumental art intended for the general public—and the architect, who had been his student. However, the correspondence found between the artist and the architect reveals the obstacles faced by those who, in the post-war decades, aspired to democratize art by integrating it into new urban neighborhoods and even into workplaces themselves.
Technology-Driven Toxicity: Conceptualizing Dark Digital Leadership inContemporary Organizations
International audienceContemporary global business environments are increasingly defined by rapid digital transformation (Barrett et al., 2021; Cascio and Montealegre, 2016) and complex technological integrations that significantly reshape organizational practices and leadership dynamics. Within this evolving landscape, the emergence of digital leadership offers unprecedented opportunities for innovation, agility, and strategic advantage. However, alongside these promising developments, there exists a critical, yet underexplored, dark dimension—termed here as "Dark Digital Leadership" (DDL)—characterized by toxic leadership behaviors amplified by digital technology (Avolio et al., 2014; Cortellazzo et al., 2019). This paper introduces and explores the concept of DDL, providing a novel and rigorous theoretical framework aimed at understanding its emergence, mechanisms, consequences, and moderating factors within organizational contexts. Drawing on extensive literature from leadership studies, toxic leadership (Einarsen et al., 2007; Padilla et al., 2007), and digital transformation (Barrett et al., 2021; Leonardi, 2011), this research investigates how digital technologies interact with dark personality traits—such as narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy (Paulhus and Williams, 2002; Jonason et al., 2012)—and structural organizational affordances to produce uniquely toxic leadership phenomen
The eco-evolutionary interplay: just an ecological theatre and an evolutionary play?
International audienceBoth ecology and evolutionary biology aim to explain biodiversity dynamics. Although these fields share may similarities with regard to the forces and concepts involved, they have been separated more than they should. Recently, attempts to bring them closer together became more prevalent, with the rising idea of “eco-evolutionary dynamics”. We propose a historical and analytical account of this rapprochement. We distinguish between different views of eco-evolution, based on the role of the relative pace of ecology and evolution in defining genuine eco-evolutionary processes. We then build a conceptual map of the interactions between ecology and evolution, categorizing the depth of their association, from parallelism (similar processes in both fields) to articulation (intraspecific and interspecific variation taken into account, similar pace). Four focal elements of this map that have driven rapprochement are highlighted: Demography governs individual variation and can generate eco-evolutionary feedbacks through density- or frequency-dependent processes; Temporal and spatial modulators, including migration, enable eco-evolutionary coupling; Intraspecific and interspecific competition can produce character displacement that reshapes communities and ecosystem functioning; The abiotic environment links functional ecology and evolution through its predictability. Eco-evolution offers a more comprehensive understanding of biodiversity, which is essential for improved forecasting and nature-based solutions to the crisis
