Assessing multimodal viewing-to-write constructs: Task design, performance, processing, and rating
To reflect the present-day prevalence of multimodal language uses, in second language testing, we developed and investigated two novel types of viewing-to-write test tasks and accompanying rating scales. These multimodal integrated tasks require watching a visual-aural input and producing a written text based on it, targeting specific language functions. We administered four task versions to 134 EFL learners, with a subgroup of 20 participating in post-task recall interviews. Quantitative and qualitative analyses showed that our viewing-to-write tasks and rating scales elicit, reflect, and evaluate multimodal integrated language use and are practical for testing such abilities of intermediate-advanced level learners.

Cultural Evolution of Difficulty-as-improvement
Culture-based norms help people make sense of their worlds especially in ambiguous situations. We show that harsher environments foster one such norm, difficulty-as-improvement, which focuses on whether unchosen difficulty has a character-building upside. People are more likely to hold difficulty-as-improvement beliefs if they live in societies with harsher environments (e.g., mortality, economy, ecology). Moreover, difficulty-as-improvement beliefs are sticky –relatively stable once developed, more prevalent in traditional cultures, and associated with societal and individual endurance-based action. Effects are stable across diverse methods and samples –simulation, spatial analyses, historical analyses, and multinational surveys
Metacognition in decision making across domains and modalities: evidence from three studies
Metacognition involves second-order judgments about first-order ones. It remains unclear whether an individual's confidence in being correct is generated by the same system across tasks (domain-generality) or whether it is computed independently in the context of each task (domain-specificity). Previous studies have focused on correlations across several tasks, yet evidence is mixed and more complex models of domain-generality were not taken into account. Analyzing data from 10 tasks collected across three studies (N between 253 and 547 participants), we found a fixed pattern of cross-task correlations for both metacognitive bias and metacognitive efficiency. In accordance with previous studies, we found that hierarchical estimation of metacognitive efficiency led to higher correlations. We used confirmatory factor analyses to investigate the existence of general processes. We found evidence for a weak domain-generality with a metacognitive module for perceptual tasks and another for cognitive tasks

The relationship between explicit and implicit timing and metacognitive correlates
This study aims to understand the underlying mechanisms of time perception as time estimation abilities (explicit timing) and how time is used to accomplish tasks (implicit timing). Moreover, the study further investigates whether accuracy and response variability at timing tasks are related to participants’ confidence about their internal timing abilities (i.e., metacognition about explicit and implicit timing)

Experiment 1: Towards a Greater Understanding of Anti-Gay Prejudice
In this study, we test a process model which describes how gender-role violations can indirectly negatively impact impressions via perceptions of sexual orientation and as moderated by anti-gay attitudes
