Exploring the Nanoworld: Middle School Students Use TRIZ-STEM in Nanotechnology Education
This paper investigated the effect of TRIZ (Teoriya Resheniya Izobretatelskikh Zadatch-Theory of Inventive Problem Solving)-STEM activities customized for nanotechnology education on middle school students' problem-solving, critical thinking, and research inquiry skills. Since STEM requires both multidisciplinary work and problem-solving skills, it was believed that study would enhance the skills possessed by the students studying at elementary schools. It also addressed how TRIZ-STEM activities customized for nanotechnology affected their views on nanotechnology and the nature of engineering. The sample consisted of 59 middle school students recruited using purposive convenience sampling. The study adopted an embedded design, which is a mixed research design involving both quantitative and qualitative data collection tools. The results showed that TRIZ-STEM activities did not affect participants' problem-solving, critical thinking, and research inquiry skills. The difference had a small effect size. However, the results showed that TRIZ-STEM activities helped participants develop positive views on nanotechnology and the nature of engineering. Researchers should conduct long-term studies on this topic while also considering the inclusion of biomimicry principles in their research programs
Design and Analysis of MEMS-Based Capacitive Power Inverter Using Electrostatic Transduction
In this study, a capacitive microelectromechanical system (MEMS) based DC/AC power inverter design for renewable energy applications is proposed, modeled, and analyzed. In the proposed approach, electrostatic actuation is preferred to develop a DC/AC power inverter with varying phase overlap lengths for solar energy systems. The operating voltage required during the analysis is applied to the active part as the tensile stress. Thus, the maximum displacement is achieved with less instability. The developed inverter is based on MEMS to achieve miniaturized performances, producing smooth sine wave output, efficiently obtaining the signal frequency, and low power consumption. The proposed inverter has a thickness of 325 ?m, an active settlement area of 45x45x0.585 mm3, and an initial capacitance value of 2.9 pF. In addition, a 50 Hz mechanical resonance frequency was used to be compatible with the frequency of the city network. It can convert voltage values between 0.5V and 24V DC with a MEMS power inverter. Since the inverter is based on a capacitive structure, it provides near-zero power consumption. The frequency and waveform of the converted DC/AC signal match the AC signal of a power grid with an efficiency of 5%
The relationship between emotion regulation and psychological skills of Turkish national muay thai athletes
Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Ana Bilim DalıBu çalışmanın amacı Türk Milli Muay Thai sporcularının duygu düzenleme ve psikolojik becerileri arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Genel tarama yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilen çalışmaya 101'i kadın, 237'si erkek olmak üzere toplam 338 sporcu iştirak etmiştir. Araştırma için gerekli olan veriler demografik bilgiler, duygu düzenleme ölçeği ile psikolojik becerileri değerlendirme ölçeği olmak üzere üç bölümden oluşmuş soru setleri formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde SPSS 23.0 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Verilerin normal dağılım durumlarına çarpıklık-basıklık (skewness-kurtosis) değerleri dikkate alınmış ve normal dağılım gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. Bu kapsamda bağımsız örneklem T testi ve Oneway anova analizi uygulanmış ve gruplar arası farkın belirlenmesi için ise Post-hoc (LSD) analizi yapılmıştır. Ayrıca sporcularının duygu düzenleme ve psikolojik becerileri arasındaki ilişki için pearson korelasyon analizi yapılmıştır. Verilerin istatistiksel analizinde ve yorumlarda, anlamlılık düzeyi 0.05 olarak dikkate alınmıştır. Muay Thai Milli sporcularının duygu düzenleme ve psikolojik becerileri sergilemede gösterdikleri performansın spor yaşlarına göre anlamlı bir şekilde farklılaştığı, duygu düzenleme performansının ise takvim yaşına göre 20-25 yaş arasındaki grupta daha iyi olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p<0,05). A Milli statüsündeki sporcuların yine psikolojik beceriler bakımından hem B, hem de C millilerden daha iyi bir performans gösterdikleri görülmüştür (p<0,05). Cinsiyet değişkenine göre psikolojik becerileri kullanabilme yeteneğinin genel toplamda erkeklerin lehine olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p<0,05). Çalışma bulgularından hareketle psikolojik becerileri sergilemedeki performansın millilik statüsü içerisindeki en üst kademeye ilerlenmesinde etkili olduğu, duygu düzenleme yeteneğinin de 20-25 yaş arası grubunda daha iyi bir performans gösterdiği söylenebilir. Yetenek seçimleri süreci de dahil olmak üzere duygu düzenleme ve psikolojik becerileri sergileme performansını geliştirici çalışmaların antrenman planlamasına dahil edilmesi, başarıya ulaşılmada önemli bir katkı sunacağı düşünülmektedir.The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between emotion regulation and psychological skills of Turkish National Muay Thai athletes. A total of 338 athletes, 101 of whom were female and 237 of whom were male, participated in the study conducted with the general survey method. The data required for the study were collected using a questionnaire form consisting of three parts: demographic information, emotion regulation scale and psychological skills assessment scale. SPSS 23.0 package program was used to analyze the data obtained. Skewness-kurtosis values were taken into consideration for the normal distribution of the data and it was determined that the data showed normal distribution. In this context, independent sample T test and Oneway anova analysis were applied and Post-hoc (LSD) analysis was performed to determine the difference between groups. In addition, Pearson correlation analysis was performed for the relationship between emotion regulation and psychological skills of athletes. In the statistical analysis and interpretations of the data, the significance level was taken as 0.05. It was found that the performance of Muay Thai National athletes in exhibiting emotion regulation and psychological skills differed significantly according to their sport age, and emotion regulation performance was better in the group between 20-25 years of age according to the calendar age (p<0.05). It was seen that the athletes with A national status performed better than both B and C national athletes in terms of psychological skills (p<0,05). According to the gender variable, it was determined that the ability to use psychological skills was in favor of men in general (p<0.05). Based on the findings of the study, it can be said that the performance in displaying psychological skills is effective in advancing to the highest level within the nationality status, and the ability to regulate emotions shows a better performance in the 20-25 age group. It is thought that the inclusion of studies to improve the performance of emotion regulation and psychological skills in training planning, including the talent selection process, will make a significant contribution to achieving success
Assessment of iron content of cooking water on bulgur by determining chemical, mineral, colour, textural and thermal characteristics
BACKGROUNDBulgur, a whole wheat product, has attracted attention in the world in recent years because of its wide usage possibility in different meals. The basic ingredients in bulgur production are wheat and water. The influence of water composition on bulgur quality has not been investigated. Iron in water can cause discolouration in foods by oxidizing and reacting with phenolic compounds and also by hardening the structure of the foods. Therefore, in the present study, the effects of the iron content of water on the quality of bulgur were examined.RESULTSThe effect of the amount of iron in water on bulgur quality was carried out and examined using water containing iron at three different levels (0, 1 and 2 ppm). Using water containing 2 ppm iron in bulgur production caused a decrease in the L* value and an increase in the YI (i.e. yellowness index), thus negatively affecting the colour of the bulgur. In bulgur prepared with water containing 2 ppm iron, the antioxidant activity was also dramatically reduced.CONCLUSIONThe iron content in the water used in bulgur production did not have a negative effect on bulgur quality up to 2 ppm. The protein, ash, phenolic and mineral amounts and textural characteristics of bulgur were not affected by the concentration of iron in the water. As a result, high iron concentration in cooking water negatively affects bulgur's colour and antioxidant activity. Therefore, it is recommended to use iron-free water in bulgur production. Comparison of Happiness at Work Levels of Health, Education and Security Sector Employees: The Effect of Perceived Organizational Support
This study aims to compare the happiness at work levels of employees in three different sectors: health, education and security, to determine the effect of perceived organizational support on happiness in all three sectors, and to investigate whether the happiness level of employees differs according to professional and demographic variables. The research was designed as a cross-sectional study. The Shortened Happiness at Work Scale and Perceived Organizational Support Scale were used as data collection tools. Ethical approval was obtained from the Batman University Ethics Committee (date: 04.01.2023; decision no: 2023/01-38). A total of 1114 employees participated in the study. In the study, the level of happiness at work was found to be significantly lower in the health sector than in the education and security sector. It was observed that perceived organizational support was a significant predictor of happiness in the workplace. In the study, it was also determined that employees with higher income, those working in the public sector and employees with less work experience had higher happiness levels. These results are important to understand the effects of sectoral differences and could contribute to the development of appropriate strategies in this context

Variation of temperature increase rate in the Northern Hemisphere according to latitude, longitude and altitude: the Turkey example
Global climate change notably influences meteorological variables such as temperature, affecting regions and countries worldwide. In this study, monthly average temperature data spanning 73 years (1950-2022) were analyzed for 28 stations in the city centers across seven regions of Turkey. The station warming rates (SWR) were calculated for selected stations and the overall country using Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) and Least Square Polynomial Fit (LSPF) methods. The temperature trend in Turkey exhibited a decline until the late 1970s, followed by a continuous rise due to global warming. Between 1980 and 2022, the average SWR in Turkey was found to be 0.52 degrees C/decade. The SWR was determined to be the lowest in Antakya (0.28 degrees C/decade) and the highest in Erzincan (0.69 degrees C/decade). The relationship between SWR and latitude, longitude, altitude, and distance to Null Island (D2NI) was explored through linear regression analysis. Altitude and D2NI were found to be the most significant variables, influencing the SWR. For altitude, the correlation coefficient (R) was 0.39 with a statistically significant value (p) of 0.039. For D2NI, R, and p values were 0.39 and 0.038, respectively. Furthermore, in the multiple regression analysis involving altitude and D2NI, R and p values were determined to be 0.50 and 0.029, respectively. Furthermore, the collinearity analysis indicates no collinearity between altitude and D2NI, suggesting that their effects are separated in the multiple regression
Türkiye ve Merkezi Asya Ülkeleri: Uluslararası Ticaretin Lojistik Performans Endeksine Etkisi
1991’de Sovyetler Birliği’nin dağılmasından sonra, Orta Asya Bölgesinde bulunan Azerbaycan, Kazakistan, Türkmenistan, Özbekistan, Kırgızistan ve Tacikistan bağımsızlıklarını ilan etmişlerdir. Türkiye, oluşan yeni dünya devletleriyle tarihten günümüze kadar süregelen kültür birliğine sahip olmanın yanı sıra gelişen olumlu ilişkilere de sahiptir. Yapılan bu araştırma ile Türkiye’nin ve Merkezi Asya ülkelerinin (Azerbaycan, Kazakistan, Kırgızistan, Tacikistan, Türkmenistan ve Özbekistan) bazı ekonomik göstergelerinin (doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar, dış açıklık, brüt sermaye oluşumu) ve özgürlük değerlerinin (yatırım özgürlüğü ve ticaret özgürlüğü) Lojistik Performans Endeksi’ ne etkisi incelenmiştir. Türkiye ve Merkezi Asya ülkeleri arasındaki uluslararası ticaretin ve bu sürece hizmet eden lojistik sektörünün anahtar rol oynaması çalışmayı önemli kılmaktadır. Tarihsel süreç içerisinde Merkezi Asya ülkeleri ile Türkiye arasında ki ticaret birliğinin öneminin artacağı bir gerçektir. Çalışmada yapılacak olan analizler ile bu sürece katkı sağlamak ta amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırmaya konu olan ülkelerin verilerine World Data ve Heritage Foundation veri kaynaklarından ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler ekonometrik analiz olan Tobit yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Ulaşılan bulgulara göre; kontrol grubu değişkenleri olan ticaret özgürlüğü ve yatırım özgürlüğü değerlerinin Lojistik Performans Endeksini pozitif yönlü etkilediği gözlemlenmiştir
Importance of emulsifiers in chocolate industry: Effect on structure, machinability, and quality of intermediate and final products
Many parameters are effective in obtaining optimum rheological and sensory properties in chocolate. Lecithin, ammonium phosphatides (AMP), and less commonly glycerol monopalmitate (GMP) are typically used as emulsifiers to achieve the desired viscosity in chocolate. In addition to these emulsifiers, polyglycerol polyricinoleate (PGPR) is used as a complement to regulate the yield value in chocolate. In this review, the properties of these additives, their interactions with each other, and the mechanism of their structural improvement functions in chocolate production are discussed. Depending on the type and amount of emulsifier, adjustments can be made to the flow behavior of molten chocolate, textural, melting character, tempering and tempering index, color and other properties of the chocolate. In addition to the use of emulsifiers, other parameters such as particle size distribution, moisture and fat content should also be taken into account, which can affect all these quality parameters. In this regard, the correct selection of the type of emulsifiers used in chocolate production and their combined usage rates will ensure that the demands of producers and consumers are met
