Psychological Well-Being and Emotion Regulation as Predictors of Doomscrolling
The aim of this study is to examine the doomscrolling behaviours of individuals in terms of various variables. Data were collected from 348 individuals aged between 18-50 years. Doomscrolling Scale, Psychological Well-Being Scale and Emotion Regulation Scale were used as data collection tools. According to the information obtained from the research, it was determined that doomscrolling behaviour did not change according to gender and employment status. Doomscrolling behaviour varies according to age group, and this variability is in favour of the 18-30 age group. In addition, doomscrolling behaviour is negatively predicted by psychological well-being. Doomscrolling behaviour is positively predicted by suppression, a sub-dimension of emotion regulation, but not by reappraisal sub-dimension. All of these variables together explain 11% of the doomscrolling. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

The Mediating Role of Hopelessness in the Relationship Between Social Media Addiction and Loneliness Among Adolescents
Purpose This study aims to explore the mediating role of hopelessness in the relationship between social media addiction and loneliness among adolescents. Methods This study was conducted using a descriptive cross-sectional correlational design. The study population comprised high school students in a provincial center in eastern Turkey. Through cluster sampling, 946 adolescents were included. This study was conducted between May 2024 and Sep 2024. Data collection involved a personal information form, the Social Media Addiction Scale for Adolescents (SMAAS), the UCLA Loneliness Scale Short Form (ULS-8), and the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 25, G*Power 3.1, and AMOS 24 software. Results The mean scores were as follows: SMAAS (20.44 +/- 6.96), ULS-8 (16.14 +/- 3.97), and BHS (7.25 +/- 5.16). Significant positive correlations were found between the scales. The model describing the relationships among social media addiction, loneliness, and hopelessness was within acceptable limits and yielded significant results (Chi(2)/df=2.978, RMSEA = 0.052, CFI = 0.962, GFI = 0.971, IFI = 0.912). Social media addiction significantly affected loneliness, and time spent on social media also had a significant impact on loneliness (p < 0.001). Conclusions Adolescents were found to use social media extensively, mainly for communication with friends and family. Hopelessness and time spent on social media were identified as mediators in the relationship between social media addiction and loneliness. Findings suggest that reducing social media use may help mitigate loneliness and hopelessness. Mental health assessments should consider social media behavior, and educational programs should address its psychological impacts. Child and adolescent psychiatric nurses should be trained to recognize signs of loneliness and hopelessness in adolescents at an early stage. The authors received no specific funding for this work.Authors are grateful to all the participants who voluntarily offered their time, conscientiously provided honest and thoughtful responses
Modeling hybrid polymer ball bearing with elastoplastic contact model and its nonlinear dynamic response
The dynamic behavior of a polymer ball bearing system is mostly dependent on the contact characteristics among the ball and the races of the bearing. Although the well-known Hertz contact theory is widely used to model contacts in conventional bearings, it cannot be directly applied to polymer bearings due to the viscoelastic characteristics of the polymer structures. In this study, contacts in the polymer hybrid ball bearing are modeled using elastoplastic characteristics. The contact between inner/outer raceways and the ball is solved in elastic, elastoplastic, and plastic characteristics regions depending on the polymer structure and the loads. Then, two-degree of freedom rigid rotor-bearing system is simulated under different rotational speeds as well as different rotor weights. In order to investigate the nonlinear nature of the dynamic response, results are analyzed with different methods such as waterfalls, bifurcation diagrams, phase diagrams and Poincar & eacute; sections. The characteristic changes in the contact form elastic to elastoplastic regions are observed as a new peak in the time history that may lead to chaotic motion. A similar response is also seen when a single ball-race contact is in the elastoplastic region. The results are helpful to understand the cause and result of contact in a viscoelastic contact condition.Gazi niversitesi [06/2018-08]; Gazi University Scientific Research Projects UnitThe study that was presented was financed by the Gazi University Scientific Research Projects Unit under Grant No. 06/2018-08
Robotically Assisted vs. Manual Total Hip Arthroplasty in Developmental Hip Dysplasia: A Comparative Analysis of Radiological and Functional Outcomes
Background/Objectives: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), defined by the malalignment of the femoral head and acetabulum, is a major precursor to coxarthrosis, posing substantial challenges during total hip arthroplasty (THA). Patients with coxarthrosis secondary to DDH often exhibit acetabular bone insufficiency, which makes challenging surgical reconstruction difficult. This study aimed to compare the radiologic and functional outcomes of robotically assisted and conventional manual THA techniques in patients with coxarthrosis secondary to Crowe type III–IV DDH. Methods: This prospective study included 40 patients divided into robotically assisted (n = 20) and conventional manual (n = 20) THA groups. Evaluations encompassed hip pain (Visual Analogue Scale, VAS), function (Harris hip score and University of California, Los Angeles, activity scale), quality of life (Short Form-12), and prosthesis sensation (Forgotten Joint Score-12). Radiologic outcomes included acetabular inclination and anteversion angles. Femoral shortening, operative duration, and follow-up times were also analyzed. Results: Demographic characteristics did not differ between groups (p > 0.05). Robotically assisted THA exhibited a significantly longer operative time (171.40 ± 11.96 vs. 150.30 ± 14.67 min; p = 0.001) but a shorter follow-up (29.3 ± 8.51 vs. 52.95 ± 18.96 months; p = 0.001), without a difference in the amount of femoral shortening (p = 0.947). Despite the extended surgical duration, the two techniques achieved comparable radiologic outcomes, with no significant differences in acetabular inclination or anteversion angles (p > 0.05). Functional assessments, including Harris hip scores (73.85 vs. 73.95; p = 0.978), UCLA activity scores, and VAS, indicated similar efficacy between groups. SF-12 physical and mental quality of life and Forgotten Joint Score-12 prosthesis sensation did not differ between groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: This study concludes that robotically assisted and conventional manual THA present similar radiologic and functional outcomes in patients with coxarthrosis secondary to Crowe type III–IV DDH, as displayed by comparable acetabular anteversion and inclination alignment, femoral shortening, hip function, pain, quality of life, and prosthesis sensation scores. While robotically assisted THA requires a longer operative time, its precision in implant placement may hold potential advantages for long-term outcomes, demanding further investigation in extended follow-up studies. © 2025 by the authors
Mechanical Behavior Prediction of 3D-Printed PLA/Wood Composites Using Artificial Neural Network and Fuzzy Logic
This study presents a novel approach to optimize and predict the mechanical properties of 3D-printed polylactic acid (PLA)/wood composites through artificial neural network (ANN) and fuzzy logic (FL) modeling. The research addresses the critical challenge of determining optimal process parameters in fused deposition modeling (FDM) of natural fiber composites. Using Taguchi's L27 orthogonal array, experiments were conducted with five key printing parameters: layer thickness (100-200-300 mu m), printing speed (PS) (40-60-90 mm/s), raster angle (RA) (0 degrees-45 degrees-90 degrees), infill density (ID) (30%-60%-90%), and nozzle temperature (NT) (190 degrees C-200 degrees C-210 degrees C). Analysis revealed that RA and PS were the most influential parameters, contributing 41.86% and 40.92% to tensile and compressive strengths, respectively. The developed ANN model demonstrated exceptional prediction accuracy with R2 values of 99.94% for both tensile and compressive strengths, surpassing the FL model's performance (R2 = 97.16%). The development of these models is crucial for accurately predicting mechanical behavior, allowing for efficient process optimization without extensive physical testing. Both methods demonstrated high prediction accuracy. Validation tests revealed that maximum errors of 1.95% and 2.81% for ANN and FL, respectively. The findings contribute valuable insights for the development of high-performance natural fiber composites and establish a foundation for future advanced manufacturing processes
