Les productions culturelles en Espagne et la crise de 2008
No full textInternational audienceLa crise économique de 2008 a eu de graves conséquences sociales pour une partie des Espagnols (chômage, augmentation de la précarité, expulsions, émigration forcée des jeunes) et a également généré une profonde défiance envers les partis et le système politique issu de la Transition. De nombreux créateurs ont voulu exposer les origines de la récession et rendre compte des effets de la crise sur les plus démunis ; ils ont ainsi choisi de produire des œuvres mettant en scène les victimes de la crise, ont dénoncé les méfaits du néo-libéralisme ou ont relayé certaines des revendications exprimées par les Indignés lors des manifestations de protestation du 15 mai 2011. Ce volume a pour objet de présenter certaines de ces productions culturelles et d’analyser les discours qu’elles construisent. Les treize articles ici réunis examinent de quelle façon films, pièces de théâtre et romans explorent les situations découlant de la récession, construisent des personnages qui suscitent l’empathie, dénoncent les effets dévastateurs du pouvoir économique sur les citoyens ou la corruption politique. Si parmi les textes étudiés, certains peuvent présenter comme unique voie face au marasme la tentation du repli sur la sphère privée, d’autres en revanche proposent une réflexion sur les modes de vie antérieurs, et invoquent des valeurs revendiquées lors du mouvement des Indignés comme l’action collective et l’esprit de communauté
Ancestral complexity and constrained diversification of the ant olfactory system
No full textInternational audienceCommunication is a cornerstone of social living, allowing the exchange of information to align goals and synchronize behaviour. Ants, a group of highly successful social insects, have heightened olfactory abilities that are integral to their evolutionary success. Essential for colony cohesion and cooperation, a female-specific olfactory subsystem processes information about nestmate recognition cues (cuticular hydrocarbons), including basiconic sensilla on the antenna and a cluster of specific glomeruli in the antennal lobe. While it has often been linked to ants’ social lifestyle, the evolutionary origins and phylogenetic distribution of this system remain unknown. We conducted a comparative exploration of the ant olfactory system across eight major subfamilies, integrating neuroanatomical, chemical and behavioural analyses. Our findings reveal that sophistication of the ant olfactory system has deep evolutionary roots. Moreover, antennal lobe investment is not associated with social traits such as colony size, polygyny or foraging strategies, but correlates with cuticular hydrocarbon profile complexity. Despite neuroanatomical differences, different ant species consistently excel in nestmate discrimination, indicating adaptation to chemical diversity while maintaining reliable social recognition. This suggests that cuticular hydrocarbon profile and neuronal investment in olfactory neuropil have co-evolved to sustain discrimination performance

No full textInternational audienceFünfzig Jahre nach der Legalisierung der Abtreibung in Frankreich ist die Opposition dagegen nicht verschwunden – sie hat lediglich neue Formen angenommen. Von der völligen Ablehnung des Rechts auf Abtreibung bis hin zu gezielteren Formen der Zurückhaltung nimmt die Opposition je nach den Akteuren, die sie vertreten – Abtreibungsgegner, Gesetzgeber, Ärzte, Angehörige von Frauen, die eine Abtreibung vornehmen lassen wollen – und dem Kontext, in dem sie sich Gehör verschaffen, unterschiedliche Formen an. Diese Sonderausgabe untersucht die anhaltenden Hindernisse für die reproduktive Selbstbestimmung von Frauen, sowohl in Bezug auf die rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen – von französischen Parlamentsdebatten bis hin zur Mobilisierung konservativer Bewegungen im Senegal – als auch in der Praxis, indem sie die Zurückhaltung der Medizin und die stigmatisierenden Narrative untersucht, die die Erfahrungen von Frauen mit Abtreibung prägen. From outright rejection of abortion rights to more targeted forms of reluctance, opposition takes diverse forms depending on the actors who carry it—anti-abortion activists, lawmakers, medical practitioners, relatives of women seeking an abortion—and the contexts in which they make themselves heard. This special issue explores the enduring barriers to women’s reproductive autonomy, both in terms of legal frameworks—from French parliamentary debates to the mobilization of conservative movements in Senegal—and in practice, through an examination of medical hesitancy and the stigmatizing narratives that shape women’s experiences of abortion. By moving beyond the binary opposition between pro-choice and anti-abortion positions, it reveals how, despite growing support for abortion rights, resistances persist that impede the normalization of abortion, undermine legal rights, and limit their effectiveness.Cincuenta años después de la legalización del aborto en Francia, la oposición al mismo no ha desaparecido, sino que simplemente ha adoptado nuevas formas. Desde un rechazo absoluto al derecho al aborto hasta reticencias más específicas, las posturas antiaborto adoptan diversas formas según los actores que la llevan a cabo —activistas antiabortistas, legisladores, profesionales médicos, familiares de mujeres que desean abortar— y los contextos en los que se expresan. Este número especial hace hincapié en las barreras que siguen existiendo para la autonomía reproductiva de las mujeres, tanto en términos de marcos legales —desde los debates parlamentarios franceses hasta la movilización de los movimientos conservadores en Senegal— como en la práctica, mediante un examen de la reticencia de los sanitarios y las narrativas estigmatizantes que configuran las experiencias de las mujeres con el aborto. Superando la oposición binaria entre proelección y antiaborto, este dosier revela de qué manera, debajo del apoyo creciente al derecho al aborto, permanecen resistencias que frenan la banalización del aborto, debilitan el derecho y limitan su efectividad.Cinquante ans après le vote de la loi Veil, les oppositions à l’avortement n’ont pas disparu : elles se sont recomposées. Du rejet frontal du droit à des réticences plus ciblées, elles prennent des formes diversifiées selon les acteur·rices qui les portent – militant·es anti-avortement, parlementaires, médecins, proches des femmes souhaitant avorter – et selon les scènes où elles s’expriment. Ce numéro met en lumière les obstacles persistants à l’autonomie procréative des femmes, depuis son cadre légal – des débats parlementaires français à l’action collective des mouvements conservateurs au Sénégal – jusqu’à sa mise en pratique, via l’analyse des réticences du corps médical et des représentations stigmatisantes qui façonnent l’expérience abortive des femmes. QoS and QoE Analysis of Audio and Video Streaming for 5G/Wi-Fi Tactical Mesh Networks Deployments
No full textInternational audienceWi-Fi mesh networks are an excellent complementary solution to extend the reach of 5G infrastructure, particularly by providing local coverage or backhaul connectivity in hard-to-reach areas. However, the deployment of audio and video services in mesh network is challenging due to unstable wireless link quality. In this context, the choice of transport protocol can play an important role in the resulting Quality-of-Service (QoS) of applications and the perceived Quality-of-Experience (QoE) of users. In this paper, we evaluate video traffic performance over the UDP and TCP transport protocols and the audio traffic over UDP. We also examine the impact of competing traffic on audio performance in a tactical mesh network deployment for the scenario of firefighting intervention. The experimental results show that in small networks, where TCP can quickly retransmit lost packets, TCP-based video streaming can greatly outperform UDP. The competing video traffic can decrease the instantaneous audio similarity score

No full textInternational audienceWhile martensites subjected to quasi-static deformation are known to exhibit power law distributed acoustic emission in a broad range of scales the origin of the observed scaling behavior and the mechanism for self-organization towards criticality remains obscure. Here, we argue that the power-law structure of intermittent fluctuations can be at least partially attributed to inertia. We build on the insight that inertial dynamics, evidenced by acoustic emission, can become an important factor if the underlying mechanical system is only marginally stable. We first illustrate the possibility of inertiainduced heavy-tailed avalanche size distributions using a prototypical example of a discrete chain with bi-stable springs. We then explore the effects of inertia in fully realistic two-and three-dimensional continuum models of elastic phase transitions. In particular, we demonstrate that a three-dimensional model of this type can produce not only qualitative but also quantitative agreement with experiment

To achieve this, they chose to target women and make them the levers for rebuilding and modernizing society, the guarantors of the creation of a welcoming home, conducive to the development of the family and the birth rate, incorporating modern comforts and new scientific knowledge. To reach their goals, the Salon stakeholders are developing a comprehensive information and education system for women, involving the structuring of household education and the development of a ‘media story’ built around women's responsibility for building a modern home, broadcast in the media produced by the Show.Après la Première et la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le Salon des Arts Ménagers constitue un des lieux de planification industrielle et de relance économique pour les acteur·trices public·ques et privé·es qui s’organisent pour faire converger leurs intérêts : l’État a besoin de croissance démographique, les industriels de croissance économique. Pour cela, ils·elles choisissent de cibler les femmes et d’en faire des leviers de reconstruction et de modernisation de la société, les garantes de la fabrication d’un foyer accueillant, propice au développement de la famille et de la natalité, intégrant le confort moderne et des connaissances scientifiques nouvelles. Pour atteindre leurs objectifs, les acteur·trices de ce Salon élaborent un système complet d’information et d’éducation à destination des femmes qui passent par la structuration de l’enseignement ménager et par l’élaboration d’un « récit médiatique », construit autour de la responsabilité des femmes dans la construction d’un foyer moderne, diffusé dans les médias produits par le Salon
A Prospective Pilot Clinical Study reveals a promising non-toxic anti-biofilm activity of gentamicin-EDTA-Na₂ Central Venous Catheter Lock Solution
No full textInternational audienceObjectives: The treatment of long-term intravenous catheter-related bloodstream infections (LTIVC-related BSI) often requires catheter removal or conservative treatment using intra-catheter locks, with a 50-60% success rate. We previously demonstrated the synergistic effect of a combination of gentamicin and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA-Na2) against bacterial biofilms. We conducted a phase 1/2 clinical trial to assess the tolerance and efficacy of genta-EDTA-Na2 locks for the conservative treatment of LTIVC-related BSI.Methods: Prospective study including adult patients with monomicrobial, uncomplicated LTIVC-related BSI caused by gentamicin-susceptible coagulase-negative staphylococci, Enterobacterales, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.Primary objective: assess the safety and efficacy at genta-EDTA-Na2 locks at day 40 (D40) by evaluating the frequency of clinical and microbiological cure 30 days after the end of treatment (D40).Results: Eight patients were included. Complete follow-up was obtained for seven patients, six of whom met the criteria for cure. The single patient with incomplete follow-up met all criteria for cure at D23. A single microbiological failure occurred (relapse of P. aeruginosa LTIVC-related BSI). Two patients experienced at least one serious adverse event; none were attributed to the genta-EDTA-Na2 locks.Conclusions: Genta-EDTA-Na2, used as intra-catheter locks, may be a promising anti-biofilm candidate for evaluation in a randomized controlled trial
