    No full text
International audienceThis article explores the variety and variations of socio-cultural animation. It draws on theorisations of forms of education, particularly school education, to examine those of animation and popular education. It is based on an ethnographic fieldwork of a number of settings and analyses the configurations of the sequences offered to children from diffrent dimensions. It shows how these forms of animation are situated on a continuum between recreation and education.

We know that the algorithm of Theon of Smyrna (70-135 AD) made it possible to highlight fine frames of √2 by rationals. However, this same algorithm also applies to √3 and makes it possible to find the famous Archimedes inequalities:265/153 < √3 < 1351/780. An interesting question is whether this very simple iterative method exposed by Theon was not known to the Greeks before him, notably by Archimedes or his contemporaries. Knowing that Theon of Smyrna had already compiled previous works. Note that this algorithm had also made it possible to open a breach towards the Pell-Fermat equations and continued fractions.

    No full text
International audienceThis article aims to examine how collaborative and contributive dynamics – key drivers in the production of fan writings such as online fanfiction – are concretely expressed in the activity of their authors. The analysis focuses on the mechanisms that facilitate connections between authors and their readership, in order to identify an underlying form of relational economy. Drawing on the concept of authoriality (Neeman, 2012), the article moves beyond questions of authority and ownership to explore other dynamics at play. The study of personal networks reveals how these dynamics emerge within interpersonal relationships. It relies on data collected from 71 participants through semi-structured interviews, as well as systematic gathering of reader comments, to refine the understanding of audience contribution. The purpose is to grasp the key factors shaping the production of these specific contents, such as fanfiction, while exploring whether the role of digital technologies leads to the disappearance of the author or the creation of a hybrid figure.

Documenting the political divide : health crisis, government communication, and political legitimacy in Cameroon

    No full text
The reception given to the various government measures to combat Covid-19 in the midst of the health crisis between 2021 and 2022 illustrates the political divide between the Cameroonian State and its population. This article analyzes the mechanisms behind this lack of trust, using a sociology of public action to combat Covid-19 and a sociology of the State. Our analysis highlights several structural elements that undermine the legitimacy of the Cameroonian State in the eyes of its population: centralist decision-making logics that resist any form of openness likely to give more room to the dialogue and consensus required by the health emergency; the instrumentalization of public action for presidential marketing purposes, and a great lack of flexibility and proximity in government communication. All this in a context of technological evolution (the weight of social networks) that calls for a rethinking of the content, form, channels and carriers of information and communication

    No full text

MEFA: Multimodal Image Early Fusion with Attention Module for Pedestrian and Vehicle Detection

    No full text
International audiencePedestrian and vehicle detection represents a significant challenge in autonomous driving, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Multimodal image fusion addresses this challenge. This paper proposes a new early-fusion attention-based approach from visible, infrared, and LiDAR images, designated as MEFA (Multimodal image Early Fusion with Attention). In this study, we compare our MEFA proposal with a channel-wise concatenation early-fusion approach. When coupled with YOLOv8 or RT-DETRv1 for pedestrian and vehicle detection, our contribution is promising in adverse weather conditions (i.e. rainy days or foggy nights). Furthermore, our MEFA proposal demonstrated superior mAP accuracy on the DENSE dataset

Analysis of a toy model for optimal crop protection

    No full text
International audienceIn this paper we investigate an optimal control problem involving a toy model for theprotection on a crop field. Precisely, we consider a protection on a crop field and we wantto place intervention zones represented by a control, in order to maximize the protection onthe field during a given period. We prove that there exists a unique control which maximizesthe protection and, moreover, it must be a bang-bang control. Furthermore, with additionalassumptions on the crop field geometry, some results on the shape of the optimal interventionare proved using comparison results for elliptic equations via Schwarz and Steiner symmetrizations. Finally, some numerical simulations are performed in order to illustrate those results
