Computer forensic whizzes do their utmost to employ effective tools and methodologies to extract and analyze data from storage devices used at the digital crime scene to acquire and be able to present admissible evidence in court. This paper is an attempt and a trial to highlight the areas of discussions and critical review of the available guidelines used to achieve successful computer crime investigation that is compatible with best evidence rule. The enforcement of information laws is a step in the right direction towards a knowledge-based well established cyber security, however having laws alone isn’t enough for carrying out valid and effective confrontation against cyber criminals. Consequently this paper studies the common factors and elements in the computer crime case with focus on best evidence rule and suitable road map process of Digital Forensic Investigation Framework (DFIF) to maintain a close cooperation between parties through effective use of legal concepts and technology. The paper discusses the main challenges and basics needed to be handled, and observed closely to grasp a successful prosecution of a cybercriminal. Basically, the paper deliberates and reviews deferent investigation frameworks of cybercrime with emphasis on the most prominent frameworks, legal requirements, technological, and technical practices needed over and done with studying cybercrime categories, rules of evidence in court, employing historical critical literature review and the study of restrictions imposed over admissibility of digital evidence

Geometrically Nonlinear analysis using Plane Stress / strain Elements based on Alternative Strain Measures

    Get PDF
The description of deformation and the measure of strain are essential parts of nonlinear continuum mechanics. In this paper, a new formulation for geometric nonlinear plane stress/strain based on Logarithmic strains (GNLGS) is presented. This is coupled with a formulation based on the well known Green's strains and coupled with modifying a formulation based on geometric strains (conventional strains). A geometric nonlinear total lagrangian formulation applied on two-dimensional elasticity using 4-node plane finite elements is used. The formulations were implemented into the finite element program (NUSAP), which is developed for the analysis of plane stress/strain problems subjected to static loading. The solution of nonlinear equations was obtained by the Newton-Raphson method. The program was applied to obtain displacements for the different strain measures. The accuracy of the results was demonstrated by using two numerical examples and the results are in good agreement with other available published solutions and those obtained using commercial finite element solvers such as ANSYS. It could be concluded that the geometrically nonlinear formulations converge to the correct solution with coarse meshes and are computationally efficient. In addition, the resulting displacements clearly showed the effect of the nonlinearity in the deflected shape. It is also observed that all results were approximately identical when applying a small value of load and when a large value of a load was applied there was a difference between the results of the three strain measures

Geoelectric investigation of groundwater potential in Khor Abu Habil drainage basin

    Get PDF
Geoelectric investigation for groundwater in Abu Habil water shed, northern Kordofan and it’s environ was done using the Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) method. Twenty two vertical electrical soundings data were acquired within the locations in the study area Borehole data were also acquired. Electrical resistivity methods are frequently used as investigation tool in groundwater exploration to obtain, details about the location, depth and apparent resistivity of the subsurface layers. Schlumberger Vertical Electrical Sounding (V.E.S) measurements were conducted using a portable ABEM SAS1000 instrument. The acquired data cover a wide range of resisitvity values from 3.0 Ωm to more than 5500Ωm, which generally reflects the variation of resistivity within the sediments and the basement complex. However, the interpretation of vertical electrical sounding is presented in the form of geoelectrical sections. The general trend of these geological sections is east – The depth to the basement . west and north – south and structural contour maps are constructed on the basis of present VES interpretation. The present work can be correlated to previous gravity research which shows low gravity anomalies in Kordofan Province that indicate presence of thick sediments. The aquifer mostly sandstone and, sand with gravel, which is associated with intermediate resistivity range between (25 to 60 Ωm) and, the average static water level of about 72 meters in the study area. The study reflects the existence of relatively thick sediments, whereas the thickness does not exceed 25 m in the southwest

Energy Efficient Routing Protocol for Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks

    Get PDF
Due to the sensibility of power issue in wireless sensor networks and the limitations of power sources, preserving energy issue prepossess most recent advances researches in this field. Routing protocols have considerable space in those researches, and the hierarchal algorithms like LEACH are a common kind of important techniques used to decrease energy consumption in sensor networks. It increases the network scalability and prolonging network lifetime. Hierarchal based energy efficient routing protocols should be designed to adapt with characteristics of heterogeneous wireless sensor networks. In this paper a new LEACH based clustering scheme for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks proposed, which is called master, advance, and normal nodes LEACH (MAN-LEACH) deal with heterogeneity and attempt to remedy some original LEACH drawbacks. In MAN-LEACH, the cluster heads are selected by take in consideration the ratio between residual energy of each node in network after certain round and the average energy of the network. So the chances to become a cluster head for nodes are differ according to the residual energy they have. Also MAN-LEACH introduced multi levels of amplifying energy to transmit packets through network, the lowest level used to transmission between cluster members and cluster head, the middle to transmit between cluster heads and highest level used to transmit between cluster heads and base station. The performance of MAN-LEACH evaluated against three other protocol approaches LEACH, MOD-LEACH, DEEC, and simulation results show that MAN-LEACH gives longer lifetime, highest average residual energy rate, and highest rate in transferring packets to base statio

Virtual Failure Influence of Roseires Dam on Khartoum City Using HEC-RAS Hydraulic Simulation Modeling

    Get PDF
Dam break is series phenomenon that can result in fatal consequences and loss of properties. Unfortunately, the observed consequences can only be available after the dam breaks. Therefore, it is important to anticipate what will happen prior to dam break to issue suitable warning and locate the possible risk areas. This study attempts to simulate the case of dam break in Blue Nile at Roseires dam and see its consequences downstream. Roseires dam lies at a distance of 630 km south of Khartoum, Sennar dam lies at about 260 km downstream of Roseires dam. In this study hydraulic model is developed based of Hydraulic Engineering Centre (HEC), River Analysis System (RAS), and HECRAS. The HEC-RAS based model is calibrated and validated using observed data of the Blue Nile for several flood years. The calibrated and validated model is used to analyze the impact of flood wave due to dam break failure of Roseires dam to provide the following information: the maximum discharge, the maximum water level, the maximum velocity, the velocity and depth profiles, the flooding extent, etc. Several dam break scenarios that cover the possible failure modes were considered and the scenario that gives the worst situation is present in this paper. Piping is considered as failure mode with different failure parameters. It was found that failure of Roseires dam result in overtopping failure of Sennar dam due to the inability of the Sennar reservoir and dam to withstand the flood wave. The results also indicated that the maximum flood wave resulting from the failure of Roseires dam reaches Khartoum in 4, 6, 7 and 9 days when the maximum flow is 33105, 14724, 13249 and 12443 m3/s respectively the cities (Roseires, Sennar, Wad Medani and Khartoum ). The respective water surface level of flood wave is 481.01, 428.37 and 382.5 m in Roseires, Sennar and Khartoum and the wave speed at Khartoum is 8.97 m/s
