    Analysis of Effectiveness PBL-STEM to Improve Student’s Critical Thinking Skills

    Objective: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of PBL-STEM in improving students' critical thinking skills. Method: The method used in this research is the literature review method. A literature review is a type of research that collects data and information from various sources by collecting and analyzing. This study analyzes as many as two national and international articles that can be accounted for. The articles used were published in 2018-2022. The steps in this Literature review method are identifying topics, searching for and selecting relevant articles, analyzing and synthesizing the literature, and creating a conclusion. Results:  (1) the application of the PBL model can improve students' critical thinking skills; (2) the integration of STEM in the learning process is also able to improve critical thinking skills because STEM provides opportunities for students to identify real-life problems and solve them, which is per the characteristics of PBL; (3) the integration between PBL and STEM can be applied and can provide more effective results in improving students' critical thinking skills. Novelty: ThisThis study discusses the analysis of how effective the integration of STEM and PBL from the latest journals so that this research can be used as a reference for making quality learning tools

    The Effectiveness of The Six Tier Diagnostic Test (STDT) Instrument in Viewed from Empirical Validity to Identify Student's Misconceptions in Chemical Equilibrium Materials

    Objective: Students are said to understand the concept comprehensively if they master the concepts from dimensions of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. One of the topics that still needs to be clarified is chemical equilibrium. Therefore, it is necessary to develop instruments to diagnose conceptions about the chemical concepts taught. The STDT is one of the instruments that will be developed by researchers, which contains three scientific questions to identify misconceptions in chemical equilibrium. Method: This development research used the ADDIE model. The instrument's effectiveness refers to the empirical validity after applying the STDT instrument. The effectiveness of the STDT instrument was obtained through the correlation of misconceptions experienced by students with the level of difficulty of the items. The STDT instrument was applied to 86 students. Results:  The percentage of students who experienced the highest misconceptions occurred in the chemical equilibrium section of the equilibrium shift due to the influence of a catalyst. In each item of questions, most students need more knowledge or knowledge. The composition of the difficulty of these items should be considered from the start of the instrument's preparation. In the developed STDT instrument, the item difficulty obtained from empirical trials on students did not meet the ideal conditions for the composition of the item difficulty level. Novelty: The resulting instrument for detecting misconceptions. It is a tier diagnostic test that is integrated with three scientific questions

    Utilizing Pho’s Move in Composing Scientific Paper within AIMRD

    Objective: Composing and publishing a scientific article needs compound responsibilities, mainly when Indonesian students write it since English is their foreign language. Swales pioneered CARS with three moves, followed by Pho, who mentions moves and steps in a research article using AIMRD, which can be worthy of consideration in composing a scientific article. Method: The moves and steps of undergraduate students’ research articles were analyzed qualitatively, using Pho’s moves and steps as parameters. The data analyzed consists of nine articles on English Education, seven on Applied Linguistics, and six on Applied Literature. Tables of move-analysis were prepared as the research instrument with different codes for classifying and analyzing the articles. Results:  Undergraduate students place and develop moves along with steps effectively, which was inflicted by the thought patterns and the tendency of undergraduate students. Thus, writing research articles developed by undergraduate students could be considered in revising institution guides for composing research articles and reflection in composing research articles for other disciplines. Novelty: Most research on sections of research articles applying a move-based approach have worked with first language studies published in journals and focused on a particular section of the research article, while this study using Pho's moves and steps works with EFL learners, which compose an unpublished complete text of the scientific article. The findings of current research mediate both students' critical thinking and unfathomable argumentation skills by the availability manifestation of the rhetorical move. The main contribution of this research result is meant to alleviate writers, mainly undergraduate students, in generating research articles successfully

    Effectiveness of Inquiry Learning Models to Improve Students' Critical Thinking Ability

    Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the inquiry learning model in improving students' critical thinking skills. This type of research is a literature study using articles related to the influence of the inquiry learning model on students' critical thinking skills. Method: The method used is the descriptive qualitative research method. The data source used in this study is secondary data, namely articles that have been published. These articles were sourced from Google Scholar, Open Access Journal, sinta indexed journals,  and national university websites between 2012 and 2022. Eight journals were suitable for research on critical thinking skills and inquiry. Results:  The result of this study is that it is known that the inquiry learning model has a significant influence on improving students' critical thinking skills. There is a significant difference in critical thinking skills between students who use the inquiry learning model and those who are taught with the non-inquiry learning model. Novelty: The guided inquiry learning model has proven to be effectively applied to improve students' critical thinking skills

    Development of a Referral System to Optimize Centers for Character Development and Counseling Guidance as Well as Psychological Service Centers for Professional Learning and Development Institutions

    The research aims to determine the implementation of the referral system at the Centers for Character Development and Counseling Guidance (CCDGC) and Psychology Service Centers. This study uses a type of R&D with a descriptive approach. The participants in this research are the chairperson or secretary at the Center for Psychological Services, the CCDCG, and related parties in the internal referral system and system developers. Data analysis in the form of observation, documentation, and focus group discussion (FGD) was collected directly. This study's results indicate that the referral system carried out by the CCDCG can be implemented as needed. In addition, the Psychological Service Center in the psychological examination and consultation program can develop a referral system according to the needs of clients from outside the Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA). This study implies that the implementation of the referral system makes it easier for users to access services according to their needs, and the psychology service center has an optimized SOP to rule the CCDCG at UNESA. The limitation of this study is that it is only focused on UNESA. Hence, further research can analyze the development of a referral system in the CCDCG to other institutions and compare it to UNESA

    Job Satisfaction among Vocational High School Teachers by Demographics Factors In Educational Institutions

    Objective: Job satisfaction is an essential factor that needs attention from leaders in educational institutions. If teachers in educational institutions have job satisfaction, this will impact their job performance. This study analyzes job satisfaction from demographic factors of age, gender, tenure, and marital status of vocational high school teachers in Surabaya. Method: This study used quantitative methods. This research was conducted in educational institutions, especially in vocational high schools. The subjects of this study used 160 vocational high school teachers in Surabaya. The sampling technique used convenience. The data analysis technique used an independent sample t-test. The results of this study indicate that there are differences in job satisfaction by demographic elements consisting of age, tenure, gender, and marital status. Results: The results of this study indicate that teachers who are more than 35 years of age have higher satisfaction, teachers who have more than five years of tenure have higher job satisfaction, female teachers have higher job satisfaction than male teachers, and married teachers have higher job satisfaction than unmarried teachers. Novelty: Previous research has studied the impact of job satisfaction, but to researchers' knowledge, more research is needed to study job satisfaction from demographic factors in vocational high school teachers. Therefore, this topic is interesting to study, considering that demographic factors are a point of view that is rarely used to study individual variables

    Scientific Literacy Improvement Using Socio-Scientific Issues Learning

    Objective: This study aimed to describe the improvement of scientific literacy after learning based on Socio-scientific Issues using the Problem-Based Learning model. Method: This study was analyzed quantitatively descriptively using N-Gain to determine the student's scientific literacy improvement. Using a one-group pre-posttest design, 29 undergraduate students of the science education department from a university in Indonesia participated in this pre-experimental study. The data was collected using an observation sheet of learning implementation and scientific literacy tests given before and after the learning. Finding: The results of this study showed that students' scientific literacy was improved after participating in learning based on Socio-scientific Issues using the Problem-Based Learning model. The scientific literacy was improved from (category low) in the pretest to (category medium) in the posttest, and the average N-gain score was 0,64 (medium category). Improving scientific literacy is also supported by the Socio-scientific Issues of learning using the Problem-Based Learning model implemented very well. Novelty: This study’s novelty was to describe each indicator of scientific literacy of the undergraduate students that was improved by using Socio-Scientific Issues in Problem-Based Learning. Hopefully, this study will be helpful for further research and give a solution for science teachers to improve students' scientific literacy

    English Language Teaching through Communicative Method: A Qualitative Study of Pre-service Teachers' Perceptions

    Objective: This study aims to explore pre-service English teachers' perceptions of implementing the Communicative Language Teaching Method (CLT) after being exposed to theoretical and practical pedagogical aspects of CLT through the Teaching English as a Foreign Language Methodology (TEFL 1) course. Method: The present study was a qualitative research as it employed an online survey following the participants' teaching demonstration and reflections as instruments to collect the data. The sample group in the study consisted of 30 EFL male and female pre-service English teachers studying at a private university in a remote area in West Timor-Indonesia. Results: The results indicated that although most participants were highly optimistic about using communicative language teaching methods, they suggested several challenging factors and solutions to promote students' active interaction in CLT classrooms. Novelty: This study attempted to make the TEFL 1 course more relevant for pre-service teachers and promote CLT enactment in English teaching. Ultimately, it is expected that such initiatives encourage pre-service English teachers to implement interactive teaching methods in their future teaching professions

    Research Trend of Environmental Education in Science Based on Scopus Database

    Objective: This study analyzes the trend of implementing environmental education in science research. Method: This research was conducted using the bibliometric literature study method. The data collection of this study used a Scopus database and was analyzed by the Vosviewer application. Result: From this study known that there is a significant increase in environmental education science research. The highest number of publications carried out in 2021 was six articles. The results of the VOSviewer visualization found 3 clusters red, green, and blue. Red cluster show related keyword research about education, curriculum, learning science, and education program. Green cluster show related keyword research about environmental education and science education. Blue cluster show related keyword research about sustainable development, science and technology, environmental technology, environmental science, and environmental sustainability. From the cluster, there are known that some theme related can be used to combine and use to research environmental education in science. Novelty: Analysis of these research trends can be used as a reference and a means of developing self-abilities concerning being an environmental educator in schools. Implementing environmental education can make students better understand and explore their abilities in science

    Analysis of Early Childhood Fine Motor Skills Through the Application of Learning Media

    Objective: The learning media is one of the methods needed in the learning process when students are in class, especially for developing fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are fine motor skills that involve finely coordinated movements. This research was conducted to describe and analyze the implementation of the learning media to develop and stimulate the development of children's fine motor skills. The novelty of the research is learning media to improve fine motor skills in early childhood. This study aims to describe fine motor skills in early childhood through learning media. Method: This research method is a literature study or literature review with a qualitative approach that is carried out by collecting data or based on scientific writing, which combines research with existing literature to solve existing problems—collecting data on library materials by reading and storing and managing research materials and concluding research materials. Results: Based on an analysis of 30 learning articles using learning media shows that developing fine motor skills in early childhood requires learning activities using learning media to support and support the learning process. In addition, when the learning process uses learning media, children become interested, enthusiastic, and excited because learning activities become fun. Novelty: The novelty of the research is learning media to improve fine motor skills in early childhood
