Adherence of College of Education Students towards Prevention of COVID-19 Pandemic Disease
The brunt of COVID-19 is currently being felt in all spheres of human endeavor; it has affected the health, economy, education, religion, and overall well-being of all citizens. The study objectives are to investigate whether: (i) Kwara State College of Education students adhere to hand washing; (ii) adherence to receiving a vaccine for prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic; and (iii) to investigate if there is a difference between male and female students adherence towards preventive measures to COVID-19 pandemic. The descriptive research design of the survey type was employed for the study. The study population comprised all students of the College of Education Ilorin. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select two hundred and fourteen (214) respondents who participated in the study. The study outcome indicated that students of the College of Education adhere to hand washing, not adherence to vaccine collection. There are differences in male and female adherence to preventive measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Evidence realized from the study also recommends implication for the colleges of education authority to conduct a sensitization program for students on the benefits of adherence to all COVID-19 preventive measures designed by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) on coronavirus disease to protect them as well as their family members against the coronavirus disease
Application of Learning Technology in Domino Card Games on a large scale and individually to the responses of senior high school students
Learning by applying game technology in learning media will attract students' attention. This study uses a domino physics game with quantities and units as materials. Each card will be printed with a barcode containing information regarding the principal amount, unit, symbol, and dimensions. The process of making physics domino card media uses the ADDIE development model. The trial was conducted on 133 class X students at one of the SHS in the Pamekasan and Surabaya Regencies. The results of the validation of the physics domino cards in the media aspect obtained a very valid average category value, and the material aspects got a very valid average category value. The results of the average percentage of responses of Al Amien Pamekasan senior high school students after using the domino physics media with indicators of ease of obtaining, interest, and usefulness obtained scores in the very good category. The results of the average percentage of responses from Pamekasan 4 senior high school students after using the domino physics media with indicators of ease of obtaining, interest, and usefulness obtained scores in the very good category. The average percentage of senior high school 9 Surabaya responses after using the domino physics media with indicators of ease of obtaining, interest, and usefulness received scores in the very good category. Domino physics learning media can make it easier for students to understand the material in quantities and units and instill a strong will to learn physics
Quality Assessment of English Learning in Junior High School Using the Online Photo Essay Assignment Method
Development in information technology, especially the internet and social media today, opens up opportunities for education practitioners (lecturers/teachers) to innovate in improving the quality of learning for their students. It is done to look up the conventional learning methods as investigated in this study, that is, the assessment of the quality of learning using the online photo essay assignment method. This type of research is quantitative by taking samples in two classes at the Junior High School in English. Primary data is obtained from calculating the percentage of answers to surveys given to students, as well as assessments from teachers on the results of online photo essay uploads conducted by students. This research aims to provide alternative learning methods adapted to the development of information technology so that the learning process is expected to be more exciting and can impact optimal learning outcomes. The result showed that the student assignment method in the form of online photo essays positively contributed to the quality of English learning by reviewing the process, media, and results aspects
Profile of Student’s Critical Thinking Skills and The Effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning Models Assisted by Digital Worksheet in Science Learning on Motion and Force Materials
Objective: Critical thinking skills are one of the 21st-century skills that must be possessed by students in order to be able to adapt and compete on a global scale. This study aims to describe the profile of students' critical thinking skills and the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) models assisted by digital worksheets to improve students' critical thinking skills In Learning Science On Motion And Force Materials. Method: The research design is quantitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study were 102 students at SMPN 4 Waru with a simple random sampling method. Critical thinking skills tests are analyzed per indicator, which consists of giving simple explanations, building basic skills, concluding, giving advanced explanations, and setting strategies and tactics. Results: Based on the results of the analysis, it was obtained that the average proportion of students' thinking skills was in the low category. The indicator that gets the highest percentage is giving a simple explanation at the lowest indicator is setting strategy and tactics. Several factors cause this: learning rarely leads students to train and improve their critical thinking skills, the evaluation instruments used primarily using low cognitive tests, and the learning loss factor students experience while studying at home due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Novelty: Based on several research sources, it was concluded that applying the PBL model assisted by digital worksheets could effectively improve students' critical thinking skills in science learning
Analysis of the Science Literacy Profile of Students at State Junior High School
Objective: This study aims to determine the achievement of scientific literacy skills of junior high school students in the competency aspect. The competency aspects measured in this study are the competence to explain scientific phenomena, interpret data and scientific evidence, and evaluate and design. Methods: The research was conducted using the test method. The data was collected using a competency aspect scientific literacy test using a multiple choice test of 20 items on the scientific literacy test. The sampling technique used stratified random sampling, amounting to 67 students. Data analysis techniques using quantitative descriptive. Results: Based on the research conducted by the results of data analysis, it was found that the scientific literacy aspect of students' competence was included in the low category, with an overall average of 55.15%. The aspects of scientific literacy competency measured in this study are explaining scientific phenomena, interpreting data and scientific evidence, and evaluating and designing. The results of each scientific literacy competency indicator are as follows: (1) students' ability to explain scientific phenomena, the average percentage only reaches the deficient category; (2) students' ability to interpret data and scientific evidence in the deficient category and (3) students' ability to evaluate and design in the deficient category. Novelty: This study reveals an urgent need to develop appropriate innovations, methods, and designs to improve students' science literacy, especially the learning models used. These findings encourage teachers to improve learning continuously
Effectiveness of Role Playing Cards (RPC) Learning Models Based on Madura Ethnic Entrepreneurship Values In Increasing Entrepreneurship Interest In Junior High School Students
Objective: This research aims to measure the effectiveness of the RPC (RPC) learning model based on Madurese entrepreneurial values in increasing junior high school students' interest in entrepreneurship. Method: The method used in this research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design, a non-equivalent design (pretest and post-test), and a control group design. Results: The research results show that the RPC learning model based on Madurese ethnic entrepreneurial values effectively increases junior high school students' interest in entrepreneurship. This can be seen from the average percentage of N-gain in the experimental class is 60.70%. Meanwhile, the average percentage of N-Gain for the control class is 16.00%. So, the conventional learning model in the control class is ineffective in increasing interest in entrepreneurship among junior high school students. Novelty: This learning model is the only role-play learning model developed with a combination of card games and based on ethnic entrepreneurial values to increase students' interest in entrepreneurship. The effectiveness of this learning model can contribute to social studies learning; that is, through creative learning, students' entrepreneurial interest in entrepreneurial activities can increase
Boosting the L2 Learners’ Reading Comprehension Capability by Employing Nearpod Media
Objective: This study aimed to enhance L2 learners' reading comprehension by integrating Nearpod media into the teaching strategy at Universitas Almuslim. The main goal was to evaluate the effectiveness of this technology-based learning in boosting L2 reading comprehension. Method: A pre-experimental research design was employed in this study, in which the L2 learners at Universitas Almuslim were grouped without a control group for comparison. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted using the Nearpod platform to assess the L2 learners' reading comprehension skills. The data acquired from the pre-test and post-test were quantitatively analyzed with SPSS Statistics Output to determine whether or not there was a significant difference when using the Nearpod media in class. Results: The outcomes revealed a significant difference in the L2 reading comprehension when exposed to Nearpod. It showed that the post-test reading comprehension mean score was higher than the pre-test mean score. Thus, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, whereas the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Novelty: By integrating technology into the classroom, this study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on effective strategies for language learning. The findings emphasize the potential of Nearpod media to engage and empower L2 learners, providing a novel and prospective option for boosting language teaching, particularly in reading comprehension
Implementation of ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) in Climate Change Learning: A Literature Review
Objective: Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is an educational agenda that focuses on the quality of learning outcomes and the emphasis on learning content and its contribution to future environmental sustainability, one of which is tackling climate change. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) can be integrated into curriculum and learning. This study aims to describe and conduct a literature review of the implementation of ESD in climate change learning. Methods: This research is a literature study by screening 370 Scopus-indexed papers in the 2017-2022 time frame into 20 papers for analysis. The analysis results show that journal publications on implementing ESD in climate change learning still need to be made available despite increased research trends. The implementation that has been carried out can be through formal / school and non-formal education with learning innovations and developing curricula and policies. There is a tendency for developing learning innovations is the most widely practiced form of implementation in climate change learning. Implementing ESD in climate change learning is vital in improving the understanding, skills, and awareness of climate change. Novelty: The study reveals an urgent need to develop the right innovations, methods, and designs to implement ESD in climate change learning, especially government policies. These findings invite researchers, practitioners, governments, and communities to be involved in developing innovations, methods, designs, and policies within a sustainable framework by implementing ESD in climate change learning
Exploring What Teacher's Decision-Making in Designing Mathematical Assignments?: Case Studies in Beginner
Objective: This research uses the M-Four theory to investigate how teachers design mathematical tasks based on contextual problems. Method: The research involves a case study approach, utilizing in-depth observations, interviews, and Mathematical Task Design Sheets (MTDS) for data collection. This study involved one Beginner Teacher (BT) (age 35) participating who was selected based on teacher experiences. Through observation results, a BT who consistently assigns contextual math problems is selected for further analysis. Results: The study's findings reveal that BT tends to produce contextual assignments that primarily focus on the context presented in the textbook, with minimal additions or adjustments based on real-life situations experienced by students. This research contributes to the existing literature on problem-based learning and task design by examining the perspectives of BT. It provides insights for teacher professional development programs and curriculum design. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its exploration of how BT designs mathematical tasks based on contextual problems using the M-Four theory
Development of the Android-Based Educational Game Media “Perjalanan Si Maya” as a Formative Assessment to Improve Critical Thinking Skills and Interest in Learning Science for Elementary School Students
Objective: This research aims to develop an android-based educational game media, "Perjalanan Si Maya," as a formative assessment to improve critical thinking skills and interest in learning elementary school students. Method: This research is a type of development research (R&D). The development method used in this research is ADDIE (Analyse, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Results: The results showed that the development of an android-based educational game media, "Perjalanan Si Maya," as a formative assessment was declared valid based on acquiring the very valid category. The result of practicality is classified as very good (very practical). The result of effectiveness Based on N-Gain, the mean value of the control class obtained a mean value in the "less effective" category. In contrast, the experimental class obtained a mean value in the "moderately effective" category. The results of student learning interest have increased from before learning to after learning using educational game media “Perjalanan Si Maya. Novelty: Teachers can carry out formative assessments through educational games to train students' critical thinking skills and interest in learning to become more qualified, effective, and efficient
