    Exploring an Inquiry-based Approach to Enhance English Vocabulary Learning: Academy Students' Perspectives

    Objective: The objectives of this study are (1) to describe how the IBL approach can improve and motivate students to learn English vocabulary and (2) to explore how academy students believe the IBL approach has improved their English vocabulary. Method: This qualitative study investigates the application of the IBL approach and how students address its significance in learning activities at a Computer Science Academy in Ternate, North Maluku, Indonesia. This research sample randomly chose 15 academy students based on their IBL experience. Results: Using observation and interviews, the results show that students at the Computer Science Academy used the IBL approach toward learning English, vocabulary, planning activities, retrieving information, assignment processes, creativity skill development, and project sharing. Furthermore, students liked applying the IBL approach in the classroom, particularly in English lessons. The IBL approach also plays a crucial role in improving students' English vocabulary skills. Novelty: An essential aspect of using the IBL approach in vocabulary learning is something new that sheds light on the group collaboration process, creativity, and engagement

    The Influence of Industrial Work Practice Experience-Career Information on Student Competence with Work Motivation as an Intervening Variable in Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Education Graduates

    Objective: This research aims to analyze (1) the direct influence of industrial work practice experience on work motivation, (2) the direct influence of industrial work practice experience on competency, (3) the indirect influence of industrial work practice experience on work readiness through work motivation; (4) the direct influence of career information on work motivation; (5) the direct influence of career information on competency; (6) indirect influence of career information on competence through work motivation; and (7) the direct influence of work motivation on the competency of undergraduate Electrical Engineering Education students at the Faculty of Engineering. Method:  The quantitative approach used in this research is the path analysis model. The population in this study were all undergraduate students of Electrical Engineering Education at the Faculty of Engineering, with a total population of 194 graduate students. Results: This research concluded that (1) industrial work practice experience has a direct effect on work motivation by 16%; (2) industrial work practice experience has a direct effect on competency by 16.81%; (3) industrial work practice experience has an indirect effect on competence through work motivation of 1.25%; (4) career information has a direct effect on work motivation by 7.29%; and (5) career information has a direct effect on competency by 4.41%. Novelty: Internship experience has a direct influence on work motivation and competence. This means that the Department of Electrical Engineering is expected to properly monitor and evaluate the implementation of students' industrial work practices in industry. Monitoring can be done through monitoring instruments, which must be filled in by internal supervisors and external supervisors, with the hope of increasing the effectiveness of implementing industrial work practices. Apart from that, the industry is expected to be able to optimize the role of students during industrial work practices so that they gain knowledge and experience that influences work motivation and competence

    Integration of PJBL, STEAM, and Learning Tool Development in Improving Students' Critical Thinking Skills

    Objective: This research aims to explore improving critical thinking skills by applying Project Based Learning (PjBL) based on the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) model in Renewable Energy material at 1st Trowulan State Vocational School. The main aim of this research is to assess the effectiveness of STEAM-based PjBL in improving students' critical thinking skills at 1st Trowulan State Vocational School Trowulan. Method: The research method used was an experiment with a One Group Pre-test and Post-test design. The research subjects comprised 25 students of Class X Computer and Network Engineering 1 (X-1) and 26 students of Class X Computer and Network Engineering 1 (X-2). During the research, students were given PjBL-based learning with a STEAM approach to Renewable Energy material. Before and after learning, students are tested using a pre-test and post-test to measure the increase in their critical thinking skills. Results:  The analysis shows that implementing PjBL-based learning based on STEAM is efficacious in improving students' critical thinking abilities. A comparison of pre-test and post-test scores on Renewable Energy material shows a significant increase in students' critical thinking abilities. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its new contribution to the field of education. The combination of the PjBL and STEAM approaches in learning Renewable Energy makes a new contribution to preparing students to face real-world challenges that continue to develop. Critical thinking ability is an essential skill in facing the challenges of the 21st century, and this research shows that this approach is practical in developing it. Integrating critical thinking skills into STEAM-based learning provides essential added value in education

    Profile of Guided Inquiry in Science Learning in Junior High Schools

    Objective: This study aims to discover that guided inquiry is related to science learning at the high school and junior high school levels, which can increase students' knowledge in learning. The researchers also found that guided inquiry could only improve students' literacy skills to a moderate level, which indicated that guided inquiry was needed to improve these abilities. Method: The research method used is the literature review method by collecting sources that can be used as references or related references. Results: Based on the results of the literature review that has been carried out, it was found that the use of the guided inquiry learning model is proven to be an alternative to active science learning in terms of students' thinking and cognitive skills. Learning outcomes when applying the guided inquiry learning model follow the nature of science learning, including scientific attitudes, processes, products, and applications. Novelty: Research that previous researchers have carried out needs coordination with related parties, namely schools, which will also affect the research results. In addition, this research uses a lot of guided inquiry models rather than free inquiry models, which shows a less significant difference in the results to be achieved

    Profile of Problem-Solving Ability in Junior High School Students on Global Warming Lesson Material

    Objective: This study aims to determine the profile of problem-solving ability in junior high school students on global warming. Method: This research is preliminary. The study used a quantitative-descriptive research type and a purposive-sampling method. The instrument included a problem-solving ability test with four questions based on the Polya indicator on global warming lesson materials. The research sample consisted of 33 students from class VII-B, JHS Al-Miftah 4 Karang Anyar Ketapang Timur Sampang District East Java Province, who had previously received global warming lesson materials. The research data was analyzed by calculating the average score of the indicator student's problem-solving ability in the form of a percentage. Result: The results were as follows: the interpretation of problem-solving abilities in students is still dominant in the "Very Less" category with a score of 43%, and the overall average value of problem-solving abilities obtained based on indicators of problem-solving abilities gets of 32.25% belonging to the category "Not enough." Novelty: Analysis of problem-solving abilities can be a reference and a means of developing self-ability related to problem-solving abilities in the school environment, considering that solving abilities have yet to be highlighted too much, especially in remote areas. Problem-solving abilities are still a problem in the world of education, so further research is needed as a means to improve students' problem-solving abilities

    The Principal's Strategy for Strengthening National Identity in Globalization Era

    National identity is interesting to be discussed, considering the loss of national boundaries since technological advances increasingly affect daily life. National identity is essential to be implemented from an early age, primarily through the role of education. The focus of this study is to reveal the Principal's strategy for strengthening national identities. This study was conducted using a quantitative approach through a survey of 50 elementary school principals spread over 18 subdistricts in the Sidoarjo Regency. Two things can be concluded from this study. First, national identity is essential for the young generation of mid-globalization. This study shows that every respondent realizes the importance of principal secondary schools developing straightforward policy programs about internalizing national identity. Those policy programs must integrate extracurricular activities, extracurricular activities, building school culture, and various participation activities. Second, most of the respondents agree that their schools have no clear policy as their guidance in internalizing national identity values in learning. Several teachers have integrated national identity values into learning through lesson plans or learning activities. This study recommends developing an applicable policy model to strengthen the national identity of the young generation

    The Dangers of Cigarette Smoke and the Role of Guided Inquiry for Prevention and Other Prevention

    Objective: The objectives are to discover the health impact of cigarette smoke, the factors make adolescents’ smoking behavior, and how guided inquiry and other rules for preventing smoking behavior. Method: This research uses a literature review research method or literature study, collecting several sources that can later be used as a reference. This research is obtained from the seventy-five journals reviewed. Results: Based on the literature review, so many destructive impacts of cigarette smoke on health. Mostly factor in smoking behavior is an advertisement of cigarettes. Preventive ways to stop adolescents smoking behavior are also available. Nevertheless, the most effective ways are school-based learning. Primarily health education with guided inquiry learning based. Novelty: Previous research by another researcher needs to explain the factors of adolescent smoking behavior sufficiently; the previous research also needs to mention the prevention of that behavior. This research shows the health impact of smoking and prevention in social life, and this research shows the role of guided inquiry for prevention

    Improving the Ability of Principals to Carrying Out Academic Supervision Through Managerial Supervision with a Collaborative Approach

    Objective: The purpose of this school action research is to improve the ability of school principals to carry out academic supervision through managerial supervision with a collaborative approach. This research was conducted at Foster Vocational Schools in Bojonegoro Regency. The school is a school fostered by researchers who serve as supervisors. The subjects in this study were six principals of vocational school Taruna Mandiri Ngasem, vocational school Association of Teachers of the Republic of Indonesia 3 Bojonegoro, vocational school Al Kyai Sukosewu, vocational school Wali Songo Sugihawaras, vocational school Muhammadiyah 6 Kedungadem, and vocational school Miftahul Huda Baureno. This research was carried out for two months. Method:  A collaborative approach with monitoring and evaluation, and workshops is an activation process that will be aimed at finding out whether the development of the implementation of this program, whether it is by plans, procedures, or standards that have been set and assess the level of achievement and effectiveness of the program that has been implemented. Results: the managerial supervision of the collaborative approach can improve principals' performance abilities in carrying out academic supervision. The results achieved in cycle 1 averaged 75.38, and cycle 2 achieved an average score of 92.42 according to the researcher's target, namely the average score of 80 and above. With the increased performance of school principals in academic supervision, all supervised teachers experience direct positive benefits from academic supervision. Novelty: Teachers feel that implementing learning in schools becomes more qualified, effective, and efficient

    Influence of Self-Efficacy and Resilience on Subjective Well-Being: A Study of the New Curriculum Implementation in Indonesia

    Objective: This research was purposely conducted to determine how teachers’ self-efficacy and resilience influence their subjective well-being, especially in implementing new curriculum policies. Method: This research was a correlational study, while the data were collected from 50 respondents and selected using an incidental sampling technique. The questionnaire was employed to gather the data, and SEM analysis using the SmartPLS program was used to analyze data. Results: Both self-efficacy and resilience had influences on teachers’ subjective well-being. Furthermore, resilience was categorized as high in two of the eight resilience indicators. Meanwhile, one of the five subjective well-being indicators was removed due to the examination of indicator or factor loading values in this study. Novelty: This research differed from others as it primarily addressed the variables used in this research individually and still needed to correlate them as factors that possibly influence each other. Moreover, it provides a new perspective on curriculum development by considering teachers' subjective well-being from a non-financial point of view

    The Development of an E-book Based on Local Wisdom Around Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park to Train High School Students' Creative Thinking Skill

    Objective: This research aims to produce an e-book based on local wisdom on the use of medicinal plants by the people around Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park on plantae material to train students' creative thinking skills. Method: The research uses the ADDIE development model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). Data retrieval through a validation process by three validators, namely education experts, material experts, and biology teachers, practicality through readability tests. Results: The results of the e-book validation get an average high score with very valid criteria. The practicality of the e-book is measured based on the readability test. The readability test results show the readability level at level 10 so that it is suitable for use by grade X students. Novelty: Students' creative thinking skills can be trained by integrating local wisdom with various learning media such as books, modules, and student worksheets, both printed and electronic
