Get PDFFranciszek Ksawery Bohusz (1746–1820) was a philosopher, theologist, Jesuit, political activist, participant of the Kościuszko Uprising, member of the Warsaw Society of Friends of Science, honorary member of the Vilnius University, translator and publisher of the Napoleon Code, who was also the author of the thesis On the Origins of the Lithuanian Nation and Language (1808). The thesis was written in an effort to save from forgetting the traditions of the people whose language, as the author noted, gradually “diminished” and “faded” at the beginning of the nineteenth century, being crowded out by Polish which was used in various areas of everyday life. Bohusz’s work turned out to be a significant voice, a testament which raised interest of many Lithuanian culture researchers. It contributed to the longterm study of the history of the Lithuanian nation and language by numerous Vilnius University professors and students.Kalbos archeologija. Franciszek Ksawery Bohusz (Pranciškus Ksaveras Bogušas) (1746–1820), filosofas, teologas, jėzuitas, politinis veikėjas, Kosciuškos sukilimo dalyvis, Mokslo bičiulių draugijos narys, Vilniaus universiteto garbės narys, vertėjas ir Napoleono kodekso leidėjas, taip pat šiandieną pamiršto traktato Apie lietuvių tautos ir kalbos pradžią (1808) autorius. Traktatas parašytas siekiant išsaugoti nuo užmaršties žmonių, kurių kalba, kaip pastebi autorius, XIX amžiaus pradžioje pamažu „mažėjo“ ir „nyko“, išstumiama įvairiose kasdienio gyvenimo srityse vartojamos lenkų kalbos, tradicijas. Bohuszo veikalas pasirodė esąs skardus balsas, liudijimas, kuriam Lietuvos kultūros tyrinėtojai neliko abejingi, prisidėjęs prie to, kad Vilniaus universiteto profesoriai ir studentai ėmėsi ilgalaikių lietuvių tautos ir kalbos istorijos studijų
Renewable Energy Sources in the Baltic States and New Business Approach of the Sector

The need for RES is undeniable and has many advantages but there are also some challenges that need to be taken into consideration and adapted to the energy system. One of the challenges is RES volatility and its impact on electricity prices and power system operation. Europe is trending to power system decentralisation through the involvement of local authorities, active consumers and citizens in the system operation. This article provides main information about the energy sector of Latvia and RES in the Baltic countries. It proposes a methodology for the complex analysis of correlation and regression dependences of natural and price indicators of the electric power industry, based on the adaptation of the corresponding classical mathematical models
Realizations of deonticity in Lithuanian: The case of particles
Get PDFThe present paper focuses on non-epistemic modal particles in contemporary Lithuanian that have received far less attention in the literature than epistemic particles. Based on authentic data drawn from the Corpus of the Contemporary Lithuanian Language, the study aims to disclose the formal and functional features of the particles tegu(l), te and lai in spoken discourse and fiction. The study has shown that the particles under investigation occur in hortative constructions where they express the speaker’s desire to get a third person or the addressee to carry out some action. Although tegu(l), te and lai share a number of functions (e.g. hortatives, negative or positive performative optatives), functional extension is more typical of tegu(l) than of te and lai. The formal features of the particles (their co-occurrence with indicative or subjunctive forms) provide evidence for their functional variation
Modalities of case assignment: The view from Lithuanian
Get PDFThis paper assesses two competing modalities for the assignment of morphological case. Arguments are provided from Lithuanian against the configurational strategy of Dependent Case (Marantz 1991, Baker 2015) and in favor of case assignment by functional heads (Chomsky 2000, 2001). The first argument comes from a series of Transitive Impersonal constructions in which accusative appears independently, in the absence of a higher, nominative-marked argument, so long as the predicate is two-place and caused, implicating v-Cause as the source of accusative. Further evidence for this analysis comes from the Inferential Evidential, an oblique-subject construction. While the Dependent Case strategy states that nominative automatically shifts to the object if not assigned to the subject, nominative objects are exceedingly rare in the Inferential Evidential, a fact that is entirely consistent with the local, feature-based theory of case advanced in this paper, which relates the appearance of nominative to the Agree relation with Tense
