[article in Lithuanian; abstract and key words in English] In the year 2015 Europe was facing what appeared to be the worst migration crisis since World War II. Its coverage in Lithuanian media has spurred different voices to reach out for the audience: the country was facing the New Other, with whom there were no shared memories or experiences. Certain historic narratives and their motifs were invoked into discussion in order to embrace certain attitudes or actions while trying to comprehend the ongoing crisis: The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, World War II and Soviet Occupation.  The two-staged research was done in order to reveal how historical narratives were used to comprehend the possible newcomers and project outcomes of positioning migrants. 7 major news portals were used as a source of research, chosen by its importance or audience reach on national and regional levels with key words “pabėgėlis” (refugee), “migrantas” (migrant), “nelegalas” (illegal person), “bėglys” (fugitive), “atbėgėlis” (arrival). At the first stage, trending discourses and keywords were revealed, while during the 2nd the usage of historical narratives while positioning the newcomers was analysed. Data is divided according to historic moments that were used. Matrices of positioning self-other, attributing the agency and the outcome with possible suggestion of what to expect from the Others and how to comprehend them were drawn. Results revealed that the multicultural GDL narrative was used for distancing and traumatic WWII and Soviet occupation narrations were the ones to bring migrants closer for a momentary lapse. Variety of historical passages highlights the ongoing struggle of creating the face of the New other. Narrations are done in homogenic manner instead of charging stories with ethnically diverse experiences, resulting in not giving migrants an historical time.[straipsnis lietuvių kalba; santrauka ir reikšminiai žodžiai anglų kalba] Santrauka.

[full article and abstract in Lithuanian; abstract in English] Vilnius University has been the preeminent high school of The Grand Duchy of Lithuania for several centuries, spreading its influence across different areas of public life – religion, politics, culture. This article analyzes the influence of the Vilnius Alma Mater on the development of the Order of Saint Basil the Great (which had operated between 1617–1839). To that end, three aspects, revealing the connections of the two establishments, are distinguished: Basilians as university students, Basilians as university professors, and Basilians as university partners in the field of education. The research indicates that over a hundred young Basilians were studying in Vilnius University between 1617 and 1832. The members of the Basilian Order constituted a significant group of monk students from the mid-18th to the early 19th centuries. Cooperation in administering secondary schools yielded mutual benefits for both Vilnius University, which supervised the Vilnius educational district in 1803–1832, and the Basilian Order. The Order secured maintenance and provided support for a certain part of the Vilnius educational district schools, while the University became the protector and representative of the Order’s interests in Russian governmental institutions. The employment of Basilian lecturers (professors and vice-professors) at Vilnius University indicates the public recognition of the Order.[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba] Vilniaus universitetas kelis šimtmečius buvo pagrindinė Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės aukštoji mokykla, kurios įtaka reiškėsi įvairiose visuomeninio gyvenimo srityse – religijoje, politikoje, kultūroje. Straipsnyje nagrinėjama, kaip Vilniaus Alma Mater veikė Graikų apeigų Katalikų Bažnyčios bazilijonų vienuolijos (veikė 1617–1839 m.) raidą. Tuo tikslu išskiriamos trys grupės, atspindinčios dviejų institucijų ryšius: bazilijonai – universiteto studentai, bazilijonai – universiteto dėstytojai ir bazilijonai – universiteto partneriai švietimo srityje

Aleksandro Jogailaičio privilegija Masalskiams – tikra ar suklastota?

The circumstances and conditions for either deliberate or unintentional falsifications of documents were created at the beginning of the sixteenth century with the sudden growth of the culture of literacy. Investigators of those times were faced with the task of examining said counterfeited documents. However, a part of the falsifications have not been identified since. In consequence, contemporary historians and publishers are burdened with the possibility of finding such documents. There may be an instance when a falsified document is published several times and, on the basis of that, factual errors in historiography may appear.A particular example of such falsification may be the case of the privilege of Aleksandras Jogailaitis, which was awarded to Ona Masalskienė and her three sons on March 22, 1506. After applying the diplomatic method and thorough formal analysis, it has been revealed that the quoted privilege is a falsification. This privilege does not meet the formalities of the documents issued by the Chancellery of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the beginning of the sixteenth century. The use of words and expressions that would otherwise be unusual for the sixteenth century, e.g., the word “love,” further confirms the fact of falsification. Additional proof of falsification is that the witnesses mentioned in the eschatocol are listed incorrectly; moreover, the used stamp is titled “sigillumque ducale.” The language in which the document was written does not convince of its originality either. There were not many documents that were issued in Latin in the beginning of the sixteenth century. In addition, it is quite complicated to find any documents that could be easily compared to the examined one. Most likely, this falsification appeared in the background of Vilnius Bishop Ignacijus Masalskis, while trying to increase income received from Druja as there was an important customs point as well as a tobacco warehouse there. However, it remains unclear why this privilege was first recorded in the books of the Supreme Tribunal and approved by the ruler only 25 years later.XVI a. pradžioje kylant rašytinei kultūrai, susidarė sąlygos tyčinėms ar netyčinėms raštų klastotėms atsirasti.

    Get PDF
[full article and abstract in Lithuanian; abstract in English] This article examines the uses of Catholic corporatist theory among Catholic social theorists in Lithuania during the interwar period, with particular focus on the social theory of Pranas Dielininkaitis (1902– 1942). Dielininkaitis, who received his doctoral degree in sociology at Paris University in 1933, acted as a transmitter of Catholic social theory in Lithuania. In 1934, he participated in the summer school on Catholic state theory in Switzerland. Later on, Dielininkaitis drew on his Swiss influences and used the existing framework of Catholic sociology to develop and promote his own concept of corporatism. Like many other Catholic social theorists, Dielininkaitis saw corporatism as a “third way” between capitalist and socialist economic systems. Interestingly, Dielininkaitis limited Catholic corporatism to social and economic spheres and separated it from political implications. However, in his considerations on the political crisis in France, Dielininkaitis maintained that the political form is an expression of social life. Therefore, his separation of  corporatism from the political sphere still remained problematic on a theoretical level; the perceived connection between political order and social life implied that Dielininkaitis’s concept of social and economic corporatism was open to a redefinition into a political project.[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba] Straipsnyje analizuojama katalikų socialinio teoretiko Prano Dielininkaičio tarpukario laikotarpiu plėtota katalikiško korporatyvizmo samprata. Be to, aptariama Lietuvoje tarpukariu tarp katalikų sociologų vyravusi sociologijos samprata ir jos ryšys su katalikiškąja socialine doktrina bei korporatyvizmu. Atkreipiamas dėmesys į Šveicarijoje paplitusio katalikiško korporatyvizmo įtaką Dielininkaičio socialinei teorijai. Svarbus Dielininkaičio plėtotos socialinės teorijos bruožas – bandymas atriboti katalikiškąjį korporatyvizmą nuo politinių implikacijų. Dielininkaičio nuomone, katalikiškas korporatyvizmas turėjo keisti socialinius ir ekonominius santykius, tapti alternatyva kapitalistinėms bei socialistinėms ekonominėms sistemoms
