    CARINAL RESECTION FOR CANCER

    No full text
: Carinal resection is a rare and demanding surgical procedure indicated for radical treatment of lung cancer and airway tumors invading the tracheo-bronchial bifurcation. This operation includes different techniques for airway reconstruction which can be associated or not with lung resection depending on the tumor extension. Rigorous patient selection, use of complementary therapy, increased experience in surgical technique and progress in intra- and post-operative management have allowed to improve short and long-term results over time. Because of the high perioperative risks, this type of surgery is primarily performed in specialized high-volume centers with expertise in airway reconstruction

The Pixelation strategy for the FARCOS array

    No full text
A novel pixelation method for the double sided silicon strip detectors of the FARCOS array has been developed and tested with the data collected at INFN-LNS laboratory. The reconstruction of two and three alpha particles coincidence events is shown. The need to use the detection time of each signal to clean the events from noise and spurious coincidences is underlined. The method is able also to reconstruct interstrip events and to exclude the degradation of the resolution generated by events interacting near the guard ring. The energy resolution of well reconstructed interstrip events was evaluated by looking at two alpha particles coincidences

CO2 electroreduction to C2 products on bimetallic silver copper melamine complexes

    No full text
Nanocube crystals of bimetallic Ag-Cu-Melamine molecular complexes have been originally developed as effective electrocatalysts for the CO2 selective reduction to multicarbon products, particularly ethylene and ethanol. The bimetallic complex, containing 10 wt.% Ag demonstrates the highest performance in electro-reduction of CO2 in both H-type and flow cells. It achieves a Faradaic efficiency of 70 % for C2 products, with 40 % attributed to ethanol and the remaining to ethylene. These results are obtained at a cathode potential of -1.0 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) with a total current density of -50 mA·cm-2 in the flow cell, five times higher current densities than the current densities in the H-Cell. Without Ag in the complex, only C1 products (CO and formic acid) are detected. The use of the flow cell, in addition to higher current densities, enhances C2 formation, especially ethylene, which is absent in H-type cell experiments. These novel electrocatalysts also exhibit stable performances and provide mechanistic indications of the roles of Ag and tandem cooperation with Cu. Graphical abstrac

Update on statin-associated myopathy symptoms in the view of new clinical management strategies

    No full text
Purpose of review: Purpose of this review is to highlight the recent findings in terms of clinical aspects, pathogenic mechanisms and managements of statin associated muscle symptoms (SAMS), and focusing on the use of novel therapeutic alternatives in clinical practice. Recent findings: While extensive research has been conducted on SAMS, the precise mechanisms remain unclear. Recent findings continue to explore various aspects, including potential risk factors, diagnostic approaches, and management strategies. Managing SAMS involves a careful assessment to confirm the diagnosis, a stepwise approach to treatment that may include dose adjustments, switching statins, considering alternate-day dosing, and exploring nonstatin therapies, all while prioritizing patient well being and cardiovascular risk reduction through shared decision-making and ongoing monitoring. In recent years, the therapeutic landscape has expanded with the introduction of several novel lipid-lowering agents, providing valuable alternatives for both statin-tolerant and statin-intolerant patients but their use in clinical practice is still limited because of high costs, regulatory limitations and type of administration. Summary: Given the increasing use of both traditional and emerging lipid-lowering therapies, a clear understanding of their comparative safety, particularly regarding musculoskeletal adverse effects, is essential for guiding clinical decision-making

Measurement of the inclusive isolated-photon production cross section in pp collisions at s=13\mathbf {\sqrt{\textit{s}}=13} TeV

    No full text
The production cross section of inclusive isolated photons has been measured by the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC in pp collisions at centre-of-momentum energy of s=13 TeV collected during the LHC Run 2 data-taking period. The measurement is performed by combining the measurements of the electromagnetic calorimeter EMCal and the central tracking detectors ITS and TPC, covering a pseudorapidity range of |ηγ|<0.67 and a transverse momentum range of 7<200GeV/c. The result extends to lower pTγ and xTγ=2pTγ/s ranges, the lowest xTγ of any isolated photon measurements to date, extending significantly those measured by the ATLAS and CMS experiments towards lower pTγ at the same collision energy with a small overlap between the measurements. The measurement is compared with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations and the results from the ATLAS and CMS experiments as well as with measurements at other collision energies. The measurement and theory prediction are in agreement with each other within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties

The internalized violence within online platforms

    No full text
In pervasive digital environments, hate speech manifests its distinct exhibition and reach: sexist comments and threats, racist insults, and homophobic attacks find an ideal space to express themselves online. Generally, women predominantly become targets of online hate speech. Within these spaces, our study aims to contemplate the dynamics contributing to the internalization of misogyny and the adoption of self-deprecating attitudes among women identified as Femcels. Employing digital media ethnography, we examined the Femcel discussion platform known as “Crystalcafe”, exploring how patriarchy, internalized misogyny, and lookism interact and shape the experiences of its users. This preliminary analysis reveals the emergence of unrealistic expectations regarding beauty and personal fulfillment through successful romantic relationships. These expectations push women into self-blame for their involuntary single status

Sull’origine di da nelle varietà galloitaliche della Sicilia

    No full text

Red torulene from yeast: Isolation, characterization, bioprocess development, and its underexplored pioneering application as a natural food colorant

    No full text
Torulene, a red carotenoid produced by Rhodotorula species, has gained significant attention for its vibrant color and potential health benefits. However, while several reviews have explored its properties, there remains a lack of research on its practical applications across diverse industries. This study aims to fill this gap by isolating and characterizing a novel R. mucilaginosa strain (PUCV 645) from Chile, with a focus on evaluating the use of edible oils as extraction agents for the recovery of torulene-rich extracts (TRE). The COSMO-SAC predictive model was employed to explain the interactions involved in the green extraction process. Additionally, TRE has two innovative applications: its use as a natural food colorant in pasta and as a component in colored vegan mayonnaise, where it is combined with residual aquafaba as a potential egg replacer. Through molecular identification, phylogenetic analysis, and carotenoid characterization, this work provides the first comprehensive exploration of R. mucilaginosa PUCV 645's potential for food industrial applications. The findings highlight the promise of TRE as a sustainable, natural alternative in food manufacturing, paving the way for its integration into the food industry. This study also contributes to the understanding torulene's versatility and potential market applications
