Candlenut farmers in Vatutela are experiencing increasing pressure from the expansion of mining activities operated by PT Citra Palu Minerals (CPM), which poses serious threats to the sustainability of local living spaces and ecological systems. This study aims to examine the forms of community resistance to mining expansion and to analyze the role of local cultural values in strengthening collective opposition. Employing a qualitative approach, this research was conducted through field observations and in-depth interviews with candlenut farmers, customary leaders, and community figures. The findings reveal that community resistance is manifested through collective refusal of corporate assistance and development programs, the maintenance of the Nogoli collective labor system, the reinforcement of social sanctions based on local norms, and the intergenerational management of candlenut gardens as symbols of ancestral heritage. Land is understood not merely as an economic asset, but as a living space that binds social relations, family history, and intergenerational responsibility, and therefore cannot be replaced by material compensation. Customary institutions and local actors play a crucial role in consolidating collective attitudes through deliberative processes and social control mechanisms. This study demonstrates that resistance among the Vatutela community is cultural in nature, organized, and deeply rooted in everyday practices, indicating that the protection of their living space is a fundamental prerequisite for social and ecological sustainability

This study aims (1) to identify and describe the various forms of dual roles undertaken by wives in fulfilling family needs in Laiba Village, Parigi District, Muna Regency, and (2) to explore the factors that influence women to engage in public sector work. This research employs a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. It also draws on the Nature-Culture theory by Sherry Ortner (1996), which discusses the positioning of women within the division of sociocultural roles. The findings indicate that women in Laiba Village perform dual roles: domestic roles such as caring for their husbands, children, and managing household tasks, and public roles such as trading, farming, and working as daily laborers. The primary motivation for these women to work is economic pressure, especially in situations where their husbands\u27 income is insufficient or when the husbands are sick, elderly, divorced, have migrated, or have passed away. Despite facing various challenges, these women continue to carry out both roles in a balanced manner to meet their families’ needs.
