Battle of Stalingrad - main aspects

    No full text
After conquering most of Europe in the first years of the Second World War, Germany invaded the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on June 22nd, 1941. The attack was initially successful, but failed to completely defeat the enemy. In order to improve Germany's ability to sustain a long war, in summer of 1942 her armed forces attempt to seize the Soviet oil fields in the Caucasus. As part of this operation, the German 6th Army attacked Stalingrad. Due to fierce soviet resistance in the city and due to the numerous mistakes of the German leadership, it failed to conquer Stalingrad, and after a successful Soviet counterattack, it was surrounded and destroyed. After the defeat in Stalingrad, the Axis Powers lost the initiative on the eastern front and were slowly pushed out of the territory of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

Postoje brojne tehnike prikupljanja podataka, no analizirane su tehnike ispitivanja. Cilj ovog rada je razjasniti bitne pojmove obavještajnih tehnika ispitivanja i predstaviti kako učinkovito dobiti informaciju kroz različite tehnike i teorije. The paper analyzes concept of intelligence discipline HUMINT and key features of intelligence with aim of collecting intelligence data through human sources (human intelligence - HUMINT). There are several techniques of collecting data, however techniques of interrogation were analyzed. The main purpose of this paper is to clarify essential concepts of intelligence techniques of interrogation and elaborate how to obtain information effectively through various techniques and theories. A brief historical overview of interrogation over the years is given and it is explained how it varies from the usual criminal interrogation. A particular focus is on the psychology of implementation of HUMINT interrogations and techniques which have been shown to be effective in the collecting intelligence data. The final part of the paper mentions certain shortcomings of the techniques as well as some ethical dilemmas related to this topic

Upravo zbog razumijevanja taktičko-tehničkih značajki prijenosnih protuoklopnih sustava u radu su detaljno obrađena dva takva sustava, višekratni ručni raketni bacač RPG-7 i jednokratni ručni raketni bacač M-80 (Zolja). This paper discusses infantry weapons which we encounter in the everyday military environmnent, namely portable anti-armor systems. The subject is covered from the very appearance of armored units on modern battlefields, where it is elaborated in more detail how the development of manual rocket launchers came about. Then, we come to the process of modernization, where the term anti-tank combat begins to be seen in a broader sense and changes to the term anti-armor combat. Furthermore, the emphasis is placed on the soldier who, in order to be effective in anti-armor combat, needs to be well-armed and trained to handle this type of weapon. Precisely for the sake of understanding the tactical and technical features of portable anti-armor systems, two such systems, the reusable RPG-7 and the disposable hand-held rocket launcher M-80 (Zolja), are discussed in detail in the paper. Finally, anti-armor combat itself was covered, namely, attack, defense, and ambush in anti-armor combat

Druga generacija obuhvaća period Prvog svjetskog rata u kojem dominira rovovsko ratovanje. Obilježava je razvoj tenka, zrakoplova i kemijsko-biološkog naoružanja. U trećoj generaciji, gdje spada Drugi svjetski rat, mobilnost i manevar donose prevagu u dobivanju bitaka. Dalje se usavršava postojeće naoružanje i otkriva nuklearno. Pojava psihološkog ratovanja u trećoj generaciji naznaka je drugačijeg načina ratovanja. Četvrta i peta generacija su generacije nekonvencionalnog ratovanja tj. ratovanja informacijama i manipulacija vođama, vojskom i civilima. The paper discusses the evolution of weapons and warfare throughout history, from the development of gunpowder to the present day. Emphasis is placed on the period of the 17th-21st century, which is divided into five generations of warfare. Each generation of warfare is a upgraded version of the previous one and marks a certain period in the past and differs from others in terms of inventions and methods of warfare. The battles of the first generation, which began in the 17th century, were based on the mass power and not on simple warfare strategies, as can be seen in the examples of the Napoleonic wars. In addition to simple strategies and swords, the simplest forms of guns are also used. The second generation covers the period of the First World War and inventions such as heavy machines that dominated trench warfare. The second generation is marked by the development of tanks, airplanes and chemical-biological weapons. In the third generation, mobility and maneuver bring advantage in winning battles. With the appearance of psychological warfare in the third generation, a sign for a different way of warfare appears. The fourth and fifth generations are generations of unconventional warfare, i.e. information warfare and manipulation of leaders, the military and civilians

The paper analyzes the key features of the SIGINT intelligence discipline respectively the collection of intelligence data by signal interception. In addition to defining the discipline itself, the paper uses historical examples to explain its importance. Analyzing the legal rules and regulations that limit the work of SIGINT, the signals intelligence activity and ethics in conducting the intelligence are correlated. The arrival of increasingly modern technical systems for data collection has brought the exponential development of the discipline, and therefore it is necessary to analyze the ethical dilemmas that could and do appear in that part of the intelligence profession

Dual-use technologies in biological weapons development and ethical considerations

    No full text
NATO-va analiza strateškog predviđanja obuhvaća glavne buduće prijetnje u segmentu politike, društva, ekonomije, tehnologije i ekologije do 2035. godine.Dual-use technologies appear in the context of research in biological and similar sciences where such technologies can be used for good as well as for bad purposes (such as the development of biological weapons). Biological weapons are almost as old as humanity, where throughout history corpses of opponents would be thrown into wells with drinking water to cause disease, and today it boils down to molecular biology where it can be used for the purpose of making biological weapons. In terms of ethics, research on dual-use technology is morally problematic since, on the one hand, such research provides benefits (or at least potentially), and on the other hand, there is a risk of misuse of such research. NATO's strategic foresight analysis covers the main future threats in the segment of politics, society, economy, technology and ecology until 2035

This thesis describes the development of strategy as a concept and as a theory, offering several definitions from different authors in the field of military strategy and several from the field of business strategy. It also analyses eight selected features of strategy that provide a theoretical framework and describe what strategy actually is and what constitutes a quality strategy. Furthermore, it outlines the purpose of strategy as a planning tool and the reasons for its importance. The characteristics and differences between the two levels of strategy in military and political terms are analysed. Since one of the main purposes of strategy is decision-making, it describes how strategy influences decision-making and how decisions in the implementation process can change the strategy itself. In conclusion, the needs for modern strategies are identified and it is discussed in which direction they should develop

    No full text
The purpose of the research is to analyse the current data and experience of the Slovenian Armed Forces’ E-Learning Centre, and to examine the possibility of increasing the positive impacts of distance education by introducing it into the regular forms and programmes of education in the Slovenian Armed Forces. Based on the results of the data analysis and the experience of the E-Learning Centre and the estimated financial impacts, it can be confidently stated that the introduction of distance education has been financially beneficial for the Slovenian Armed Forces. The savings achieved so far have more than justified the development and construction of the SAF’s own e-learning capabilities. The results of the US analysis also speak in favour of the use of the distance learning method in military education. The introduction of the distance learning method in the military education system shows the positive impacts of e-learning in its integration into the regular forms and programmes of education in the Slovenian Armed Forces. It increases the likelihood of the successful implementation of digital transformation of education programmes, and guides education providers to address key content challenges
