Sephardim - The thread of the Mediterranean

    No full text
The audio-visual work "Sephardim - The Thread of the Mediterranean" by Marija Vitas, produced by Radio Belgrade's Thematic Channels and represented by RTS at the COPEAM regional competition - "Create a program using archives", is the winner of this year's competition. The topic was "Relations between Mediterranean countries: a historical perspective". The work "Sephardim - The Thread of the Mediterranean" talks about Sephardim and Sephardic music, as a clear example of connecting different traditions and peoples. Leaving Spain at the end of the 15th century, the Sephardim moved and temporarily or permanently settled in the wider Mediterranean area. Their legacy is an example of an exciting and elusive cultural exchange that has taken place in the Mediterranean for centuries. During the 20th and in the first decades of the 21st century, Sephardic music did not lose its popularity. On the contrary, it is an inexhaustible source of contemporary re-examination of the identity of Sephardic artists, but also an inspiration to imaginative creators of non-Sephardic origin around the world.

The book about the Jews in Kragujevac points out the characteristics of their life in the period of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Special chapters and a detailed list of Jewish families in Kragujevac point to the fact that Kragujevac Jews were present and influenced almost every segment of the city's life and development, often in the role of founders and originators of new occupations or social activities. Whether they were merchants, craftsmen or manufacturers, doctors, pedagogues ... they unobtrusively incorporated themselves into the history of Kragujevac.2. izdanje (2nd ed.)Tekst "Jevreji u Kragujevcu" nagrađen je prvom nagradom 2010. godine na 54. nagradnom konkursu Saveza jevrejskih opština Srbije (the text "Jews in Kragujevac" was awarded the first prize in 2010 at the 54th prize competition of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia).Štampanje drugog izdanja knjige finasirao je Savez jevrejskih opština Srbije (the printing of the second edition of the book was financed by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia)

Anti-Semitism in the work of Pius Barocha

The paper examines the prejudices about Jews present in the work of Pius Barocha, a representative of the '98 Generation, in whose thoughts there are recognizable traces of anti-Semitism. We pay special attention to the novel "Tree of Knowledge", in which the image of Jews as grotesque figures, hypocrites and founders of "materialistic paradise" is represented. Relying on the fact that the goal of the representatives of the '98 Generation was to expose the "evils" of Spain, we will point out that Barocha diagnoses the Jewish heritage in a sick homeland as a curse that influenced its decline. Searching for the causes of Spain's "problems", Barocha will accuse the Semitic spirit and Semitic blood of contamination and degeneration of the Spanish nation. Barocha does not consider the Jewish legacy to be an integral part of the Spanish "eternal tradition", but a foreign element that poses a threat to the Iberian spirit. As a result, we will show that this Spanish writer by Jewish means a culture that is a reflection of negative values that need to be eradicated from the Spanish social order as a precondition for its potential change in the future.Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije

Reason and reality in the novel "If This Is a Man" by Primo Levi

Odnos razuma i stvarnosti je klјučan i za razumevanje različitih aspekata ispripovedanog u Levijevom romanu: on određuje ton pripovedanja, odabir tema, načine opisivanja likova i događaja. Primo Levi in his novel describes the experience he lived by choosing to be guided by reason in an attempt to conceive reality and making a voluntary decision not to give in to the emotions and thoughts that threatened to exhaust him and leave him without any strength. Through the analysis of the style and the narrative procedures in this contribution, we arrive at the conclusions on how much relying voluntarily on reason can contribute to telling the lived experience and how much it can contribute to overcoming that same experience. The relationship that is established between reason and reality is also decisive in understanding different aspects of Primo Levi's story. It is a relationship that defines the tone of the narrative, the choice of topics, and the ways of describing the characters and events. It gradually becomes clear why reason is the most important means of dealing with reality and who might be the readers of the novel "If This Is a Man" as a memoir.Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije

    T. S. Eliot's anti-semitism or Who is Mr. Bleistein?

    Get PDF
The work concentrates on the delicate question of T. S. Eliot's anti-Semitism as articulated in his prose and poetic works. Accordingly, the judgments of several opposing critics are analyzed, denoting that the debate on this issue, which began during the poet's lifetime is still ongoing. Then, a part of the incriminated text from Eliot's lectures was analyzed, as well as parts of the songs that were created in the early phase of his career. The aura that the aforementioned works created brought him rather close to his "il miglior fabbro" Ezra Pound, whose anti-Semitic invectives were and still are considered notorious. The analysis showed that Eliot was certainly not a convinced anti-Semite and that his philosophical anti-materialist beliefs led to a certain number of the members of the plutocratic elite of Jewish origin being set as a negative poetic symbol that correlated with the practice of Renaissance poets such as William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. In that sense, the extreme views about this poet and his work cannot be correct. The negative anti-Semitic feelings perpetuated by his youthful poetic inspiration have been successfully sublimated in the now canonical poetic works, the specific monuments of modernity from which the indisputable spirit of humanism and atypical moral greatness emanate.Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije

Out-of-place identity in exile and the longing for identity in the "Snow man" by David Albahari

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the themes of identity and exile within the realms of Albahari's novel "The Snow Man". The analysis has revealed that the character's identities change from the individual, personal, and collective identities related to the character's homeland to the respective Canadian identities. The main protagonist deals with the problems of language and Otherness, homesickness and quietness, only to reach the destined and desired position of a writer. Becoming an official writer of the Canadian multinational identity (which is his discursive identity), he reaches the text as the narrator (not the protagonist), naming himself the ruler of the literary world.Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije

The decision to present the stories about the rescue of Jews and Roma from the jaws of horrors that happened to members of their communities during the Second World War in the form of graphic novels proved to be justified as long ago as 1992 when Art Spiegelman won the Pulitzer Prize for his novel Maus. The graphic novel is an art that communicates with its readers directly, through images and words, and is especially dear to modern generations accustomed to images. The different approaches applied by the authors testify to the richness of the contemporary graphic novel's scene in Serbia..."Sadržaj (content): Priča o Driti / Dragana Radanović ; Priča o Teodoru / Boris Stanić ; Priča o doktoru Savi / Vladimir Pajić ; Priča o Raki / Danica Jevđović ; Priča o Novaku / Jelena Đorđević-Maksimović

"Ricorda cosa ti hanno fatto ad Auschwitz" Luiđija Nona - krajnјa tačka linije razvoja kompozitorovih politički angaživanih dela

    Get PDF
Upravo ovo jeste okvir u kome će, u radu, biti razmotrena Nonova kompozitorska delatnost u pedesetim i šezdesetim godinama 20. veka, a kako bismo bolјe razumeli poslednje antifašističko delo, posvećeno žrtvama Aušvica, elektroakustičku kompoziciju "Ricorda cosa ti hanno fatto ad Auschwitz".Luigi Nono’s compositional work is closely tied to his political activism. His devotion to the communist ideology is especially noticeable in the works that he composed in the fifties and sixties of the last century. In those works, we can also see his critical attitude toward totalitarian ideologies and regimes that led the world to the Second World War. At the beginning of the 1970s, his political activism, in the narrowest sense of that word, was reduced, as the composer showed an interest in the issues of general sociological and economic problems that society was facing at that time. Thus, when considering Nono’s works, it is equally important to discuss the political, social and aesthetic issues that ’lay’ behind the composition - they influence the genesis of the work and its final form. This is exactly the framework in which Nono’s compositional activity in the fifties and the sixties will be considered, in order to better understand the last explicitly anti-fascist work, dedicated to the victims of Auschwitz, the electro-acoustic composition "Ricorda cosa ti hanno fatto ad Auschwitz".Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije.Kompozicija "Ricorda cosa ti hanno fatto ad Auschwitz" je dostupna na Youtube kanalu preko linka [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z-IUbwaMC0].The composition "Ricorda cosa ti hanno fatto ad Auschwitz" is available on the YouTube channel via the link [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z-IUBwaMC0]
