Jews in Kratovo
Kratovo, one of the oldest cities in the Balkans, which abounds in significant ancient values and cultural monuments, is also known for the wealthy Jewish families who lived in it. They left valuable memories in this city, and a large number of stories and events from ancient times are associated with them. In 1515, 10 Jewish families were first mentioned in Kratovo, and the Jewish Quarter, in which 38 families lived, is still known. Their houses and shops were in the centre of the city, and they were mainly merchants of meat, salt, leather, fruit and usury. There was once a synagogue in the city, which was later converted into a house. There are still visible traces of it on the tombstones, as well as a plaque with the Star of David, which the owners donated to the Center for Rock Art in Kratovo. Jewish community in Stobi
This video story begins with the oldest Jewish community that lived in Stobi and the synagogue that dates back to the 3rd century BC and continues with the most valuable thing they took with them to their new home in the then Ottoman Empire - the Torah, an artefact that originated in Spain and is exhibited at the Memorial Center of the Jews of Macedonia. The video ends with the Bet Yaakov synagogue in Skopje, which actually shows the continuity of the Jewish community that managed to survive despite all the tragedies. The Apostles: a novel
Time im daje krajnje prepoznatljive i savremene karaktere bazirane na osobenim i ličnim interesima jer novozavetnom narativu pridodaje novi aspekt - politički karakter Isusovog socijalno-religijskog pokreta. The novel "The Apostles" is a continuation of the second half of the previous novel "The Desert", which forms an extraordinary multi-layered prose that, in addition to the undoubted historical, mythological and above all ethical aspects, also contains several autobiographical elements as well as civilizational and existential reflections that establish an inseparable connection between distant past and present. The novel is set in Jerusalem and takes place during the three days of the Jewish holiday of Passover, from Friday to Sunday, from the moment of the arrest of the preacher, Yehoshua (Jesus Christ), to the end of the day when he believes that he resurrected. The vertical of the story is the myth of the New Testament narrative; capture, trial, crucifixion and resurrection of the son of man, Jesus Christ. The novel does not follow the course of the trial, torture, passing through the street of tears and finally the crucifixion, but only touches and mentions them to the extent that it is necessary, counting on the general recognition of that mythological story. The author builds his narrative by deconstructing that myth with a special historical, social and political context, but without challenging it, he deidealizes the characters of the apostles, humanizes them and makes them contemporary. It gives them extremely recognizable and contemporary characters based on special and personal interests because it adds a new aspect to the New Testament narrative - the political character of Jesus' social-religious movement. That action takes on a completely new but also very realistic and possible perception of those stormy events that significantly influenced history and Western civilization, but which are also recognizable in contemporary society. The novel follows in parallel: the activities of the students, the apostles and their mutual relations, which as time and events progress, change and take on different dimensions and connotations, and what is important, the conflict between divided groups and interests develops; the relationship between the disciples and Miriam of Magdala, the activities of the Jerusalem secular (Sanhedrin) and temple authorities and finally, the occupying, Roman authorities. In the end, no less central figures are, on the one hand, Philip, the apostle who is in a certain sense also the narrator of the novel, although this is not visible at first glance, and Alilah, actually the Light Bearer (Lucifer, Satan, the devil) who is not as black as his mythical figure represents, but is undoubtedly still an emanation of evil in the material world and determines its essence in a certain way.Gaspar Lebrecht je pseudonim Živojina Ivkovića.Ovaj roman je 2021. godine na 65. nagradnom konkursu Saveza jevrejskih opština Srbije, dobio Prvu nagradu „Ženi Lebl“ (this novel received the First Prize "Ženi Lebl" in 2021, at the 65th award competition of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia).Biblioteka Vertikale. Jewish quarter in Skopje
Most of the Jews in Skopje lived in the Jewish Quarter, which was located to the left of the Stone Bridge, in the direction of the Old Skopje Bazaar and opposite the Ibni Pajko Quarter, and was considered an older ethnic colony of newcomers to these areas. The Jewish Quarter was formed in the Middle Ages. In the Ottoman period, it was an isolated space enclosed by walls and gates, mostly of a moral character and to prevent the Turks from returning to the neighbourhood itself. The Turks called it "Yahudi-hane". This neighbourhood was not always in the same place. The neighbourhood lost its Jewish identity after the deportation of its inhabitants to the Treblinka camp in March 1943. After the earthquake of 1963, the neighbourhood was destroyed, and an intercity bus station was built in its place. The building of the Skopje Jewish Community, as well as the former National Theatre, are buildings that were demolished after the earthquake in 1963. Today, on the site of the former Jewish neighbourhood, there is the Holocaust Memorial Center of the Jews of Macedonia. Three Ladino songs
As part of the "Zoom Shabbat" meeting, which was held regularly every Friday during the Coronavirus pandemic via the zoom platform, on April 9, 2021, the film "My Spanish-Bosnian Life - The Montiljo Family from Sarajevo" was presented. The film was recorded in July 2015 in Sarajevo by Edward Serota, director of the Jewish Historical Institute with the support of the Claims Conference. This Vienna-based Institute is dedicated to preserving Jewish family stories and photographs (downloaded from Centropa.org/). On that occasion, in addition to the film, there was a recording of the late Menahem Mika Montiljo, one of the actors in the film and a member of the Montiljo family. In that recording, recorded in November 1980 in Belgrade, in the apartment of his daughter Hanika and son-in-law Miroslav, he sang three songs in Judeo-Hispanic (Ladino), which were recorded on a Hitachi tape recorder.1. Dvije strofe pjesme "Noches, noches..." (Noći, noći .... govori o noćima za zaljubljivanje i nemirima zaljubljenosti); 3. Tri strofe pjesme „Mansanika korilada“ (Jabuka obojena... govori o zaljubljenom mladiću kome srce zaigra kada prolazi pored vrata svoje djevojke).Trajanje 05:00 minuta (duration 05:00 minutes)

Identity of contemporary Israeli poetry between the neopsalmodic and the profane, zionism and acculturation
Budući da je problem jevrejske književnosti sam po sebi veoma kompleksan jer se ona ne definiše na osnovu jezičke homogenosti i teritorijalne monolitnosti, već posredno preko pojmova kulture i veroispovesti, pribegavamo terminu "izraelska književnost" i razmatramo osobenosti savremene izraelske poezije na primeru dvadesetak pesnika i pesnikinja, posle kruga utemelјivača moderne izraelske književnosti (Bijalika, Černihovskog, Šlonskog, Grinberga) - koji su s početka 20. veka oponašali biblijski stil i pevali o novoj domovini, od pesnika 60-ih (Jehude Amihaja, Tet Karmija, Davida Avidana, Dalie Ravikovič), preko grupacije pesnika ukloplјenih u svetske pesničke bitničke tokove (Jona Volah, Aharon Šabataj, Mordehaj Geldman) i pesnika 90-ih (Hezi Leksli, Rami Dicani, Agi Mišol) do pesnika današnjice (Amir Or i drugi). Since the problem of Jewish literature is very complex, because it is not defined by linguistic homogeneity and territorial unity, but indirectly through notions of culture and religion, we resort to the term “Israeli literature” and consider features of contemporary Israeli poetry, on the example of nearly twenty male and female poets: after the founders of modern Israeli poetry (like Chernihovsky, Avraham Shlonsky, Uri Zvi Greenberg), who imitated the biblical style and sang about the new motherland at the beginning of the 20th century, through the poets of the 1960's (Yehuda Amichai, Tet Carmi, David Avidan, Dahlia Ravikovitch), further through the group of poets embedded in the worldwide beatnik currents (Yona Wallach, Aharon Shabtai, Mordechai Geldman), and the poets of the 1990's (Hezi Leskali, Ramy Ditzanny, Agi Mishol), finally to the poets of today (Amir Or etc.). We follow the road of the poetic need to both return to and leave the ancient town of Jerusalem, which turns out to be impossible, as we also analyze the topics such as: family, society, war, home, the Holocaust, and the desert... This poetry is a conglomerate both of Zionism and acculturation, which constitute two conflicting processes of Jewish culture. Sometimes this poetry refers to ancestors through the archetypical Old-Testament-like apparatus, repeating the sacrificial pattern of Judaism, but at other times it acts like a dialogue with tourists, including the diaspora, renouncing the religious nature of poetry, and escaping into individuality, alongside its effort to both escape or return to language, regardless of whether it be Yiddish, Ivrit, Ladino, Hebrew, or another world language. We focus on the thematic preoccupations of contemporary Jewish poetry and we consider the problem of translating it to Serbian. Despite an increased interest of Serbian publishers in Israeli writers, that problem is evident. We likewise analyze the image of Jewish culture in Serbian literature, specifically in Dučić's “Jewish poem” and Lalić's poems about the Jewish people.Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije
Lessing's "Nathan the Wise" and the German philosophy of the Enlightenment
Rad predstavlјa prilog književnoteorijskom, hermeneutičko-fenomenološkom proučavanju drame "Natan Mudri" (1779) nemačkog književnika 18. veka Gotholda Efraima Lesinga u kontekstu nemačke filozofije i kulture prosvetitelјstva. Cilј rada je da na niti vodilјi hermeneutičke eksplikacije čuvenog Lesingovog dela iz nemačke književnosti 18. veka, i to prvenstveno iz ugla analize lika Natana Mudrog, razobliči neke od osnovnih ideoloških predrasuda nemačke i evropske kulturne paradigme prosvetitelјstva, u prvom redu ontološki monizam racionalizma 18. veka kao koren potonjih totalitarnih ideologija nemačke i evropske kulturne istorije.
Jew as a foreigner in Luigi Pirandello's short story "Un Goy"
The present contribution aims to examine the figure of the foreigner through the analysis of the chosen story (1922) and of its protagonist, a Jew who converted to Catholicism. This figure is expressed in the title of the novel itself since the denomination "goy" / "goi" indicates precisely the foreigner, the one who is not Jewish, who does not belong to the Jewish people and to the Jewish religion. The protagonist is represented as a foreigner, as the other towards society, his family, his origins and towards himself. The stranger is an important theme in the whole Pirandello corpus. The laughter of the unfortunate protagonist made us consider Pirandello's poetics of humour. According to Leonardo Sciascia, the laughter of the "ex" Jew is an echo of Dante's verses belonging to Canto V of Paradise. Intertextual ties have also been established with a character in the novel "Ambicije, dim" (Ambitions, smoke) by Isidora Sekulić thanks to which the figure of the foreigner was highlighted who, to quote Remo Ceserani, remains one of the most disturbing and significant characters of world literature.Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije
About the 1942 massacre a little otherwise
In the southern part of occupied Bačka, the Hungarian fascist gendarmerie, army, police committed crimes from January 4 to 29, 1942 in Čurug, Gospodjinci, Šajkaš, Djurdjevo, Mošorin, Titel, Loka, Gardinovci, Vilovo, Žabalj, Bečej, Srbobran, Temerin, and Novi Sad. This massacre is considered the most serious crime in the territory under the then official name Délvidék (southern countries). Although it is said that the fascists committed the largest massacre in Bačka at that time, the number of victims was never determined, and even in the times of Yugoslavia, this massacre was officially discussed only after a quarter of a century. The contribution was presented via the Zoom platform at the "Shabbat" meeting on January 22, 2021
