    No full text
This video presentation is dedicated to two families: Kalderon, the family of those who were rescued, and Jelenko and Ljubica Stamenković, the family that saved Ester, Mirjam, and Josif Kalderon. Through the presentation, we learn about the members of the Kalderon family, their life before the Second World War, and their family tree. A special segment describes the difficult circumstances of the war, the family's suffering, and the rescue of some members thanks to their hiding during the war by the kind-hearted Jelenko and Ljubica. The final part of the presentation follows the post-war lives of the Kalderon descendants and explains how the Stamenković family was recognised as "Righteous among the nations".Ova video prezentacija posvećena je dvema porodicama: Kalderon – porodici spašenih, i Jelenku i Ljubici Stamenković – porodici koja je spasila Esteru, Mirjam i Josifa Kalderon. Kroz prezentaciju upoznajemo članove porodice Kalderon, njihov život pre Drugog svetskog rata i porodično stablo. Poseban segment opisuje teške ratne okolnosti, stradanje porodice ali i spašavanja dela porodice zahvaljujući njihovom skrivanju tokom rata, od strane dobrih ljudi Jelenka i Ljubice.

Katalog izložbe "Bet olam: jevrejska kuća večnosti u Beogradu" koja je trajala od 10. do 26. avgusta 2021. godine (catalog of the exhibition "Beth Olam: The Jewish House of Eternity in Belgrade", August 10 to 23, 2021)

The Book of Ruth: a prose translation and a canticle in decasyllable verse

    Get PDF
The book tells about Ruth from Moab who married a Jew who was forced to flee to Moab due to a great famine in the land of Judah. After the death of her husband, Ruth decided to return to Judea with her mother-in-law, and Boaz, a relative of her previous husband, protected and married her. This happened in the last years of the rule of the judges (before 1000 BC), which explains why in the Greek and Latin translations this book is after the Book of Judges. Eliezer Papo translates this Old Testament book and sings its verse, in decasyllable and in an unconventional and, at first sight, inappropriate way - in the spirit of folk songs. However, since this is a prose text, which, although comes from a completely different context, represents a demanding and valuable, but certainly also a specific venture

Postcolonial reflection on the European Holocaust

    Get PDF
Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije

Genocid nad Jevrejima u Srbiji 1941-1945. godine

    Get PDF
Nazi Germany, which invaded the Kingdom of Yugoslavia on April 6, 1941, and then occupied it, had in its conquest plan the physical destruction of the Serbian and Jewish people. The German occupier began realizing the plan of destroying the Serbian and Jewish people immediately from the earliest days of the occupation. A total of 16,000 Serbian Jews lived in pre-war Serbia. Most Jews lived in Belgrade, about 12,000, while the rest lived in the above cities and settlements. During World War II, about 14,500 Serbian Jews were killed, or 90% of the total number who lived on the territory of Serbia. Also, more than 90% of the total Belgrade Jews perished. As few as 1,115 Belgrade Jews survived. The surviving Jews managed to hide in other places and villages in the heartland of Serbia, or few joined the partisan detachments. The annihilation of the Jews by the German occupier was part of the “final solution to the Jewish question” implemented throughout occupied Europe. Male adult Jews, but also women and children were killed in the Sajmište camp and in gas vans, which were specially made and brought from Germany. The shootings of Jews were carried out by the Gestapo, SS units and units of the German Wehrmacht army. Members of the Serbian special police as well as the armed detachments of Nedić's “Government of National Salvation” took part in the annihilation of Serbian Jews, primarily in raids and arrests. Then, they handed over the arrested Jews to the German authorities, who killed them in various ways. Serbian Nedić's special police also formed a special 7th subdivision in charge of Jews and Roma. The German occupation authorities did not have complete lists of Jews in Serbia who should be arrested. Here they were wholeheartedly aided by Serbian special police and Nedić's armed forces. Many Serbian Jews had changed their names and surnames to Serbian decades before. However, the special police were aware of that and delivered those names to the German occupier and arrested them and later killed them at Sajmište and Jajinci.

Memorial spaces in narrations of today: the Holocaust and the ethics of tourism

    No full text
It is often that we think and discuss memorial spaces through lightmotives of remembrance and conservation, using narrational forms with references to the past, which certainly is not without function. However, in the times of transformation of historical narration into a content, together with emerging of eclectic audience of postmemory era, communicational models of memorial spaces turn from traditional to contemporary strategies. There are many different responses to this challenge, especialy in the times of massive production of attractive material and digital content, which further leads to ethical questions of memorial representations and narrations. This also brings up the issue of tourism strategies into the academic field of memory studies. In the case of the Holocaust, this issue is especially prominent and present. The traumatic quality of the Holocaust makes it a specific void, an ultimate loss which is hard to be recreated, materialized or replaced, regardless of the type of media or technology we might be using. It is even harder, and ethically more problematic, to turn it into an „attractive“ object of touristic offer. But is this kind of transposition always and undoubtedly problematic? Is there a way to make touristic content related to the Holocaust more connected to the processes of active and/or participatory learning? And, last but not the least, what about the issues of digital turn within mentioned discoursive and productional areas? This lecture will try to expose different views on contemporary Holocaust narrational problems through the ethics of tourism.Predavanje održano 22. decembra 2021. godine preko Zoom platforme sa početkom u 12.00 časova. The lecture was held on December 22, 2021, via the Zoom platform starting at 12 a.m.Trajanje 01:12:00 minuta (duration 01:12:00 minutes).YouTube link [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6MedZDNbjU

    Jerusalim u ranoj islamskoj tradiciji

    Get PDF
The article describes major early Islamic traditions in which Jerusalem has been designated as the third holiest city in Islam. Their content has been analyzed based on the historical context and religious, inter-religious and political circumstances in which they were forged. Particular attention has been paid to textual and material sources, their authenticity, dating and their interpretation by prominent orientalists and art historians. The article addresses specific themes, such as Jerusalem in Islamic canonical texts, Muhammad’s Night Journey to al-Aqṣā, the legends of Caliph ‘Umar’s conquest of Jerusalem, names for Jerusalem in Early Islamic chronicles, the influence of Jews and Jewish converts on early Islamic traditions, and the construction, symbolism, ornaments, and inscriptions of the Dome of the Rock. In the concluding remarks the author considers the question of to what degree attributing holiness to Jerusalem in Islam has been based on autochthonous early Islamic religious traditions, and to what degree on Muslim-Jewish interaction in Palestine, political processes, such as fitnah during early Umayyad rule, ‘Abd al-Malik’s struggle with Caliph Ibn al-Zubayr in the Hejaz, the Crusades, and the present-day Arab-Israeli conflict.U članku su opisane ključne ranoislamske tradicije prema kojima se Jeruzalem smatra trećim po važnosti svetim gradom u islamu. This paper is an expanded version of the lecture "Jerusalem in Early Islamic Tradition" held on November 10th, 2017 at the Department of History of the University of Zadar (ovaj rad je proširena verzija predavanja "Jerusalim u ranoj islamskoj tradiciji" održanog 10. novembra 2017. godine na Odsjeku za povijest Univerziteta u Zadru). The article was published in Croatian in the magazine Lamed-E: list za radoznale, 2022, No. 15, Vol. 2, p. 1-14 (članak je na hrvatskom jeziku objavljen u časopisu Lamed-E : list za radoznale, 2022, Vol. 15, No. 2, str. (Post)memory and the trauma narrative: the eerie “Black dogs” by Ian Mcewan

This paper intends to investigate Ian McEwan's novel "Black Dogs" from the perspective of historiographic metafiction, focusing on the representation of history and truth, real and imaginary worlds, and the very possibility of knowing and searching for knowledge. Research shows that memory and trauma are woven into many hidden layers of the narrative - we come to the conclusion that the novel reflects on history through the unique, highly subjective reconstruction of historical events. The author of this paper tries to point out to extend trauma narration has become influential in postmodern literature, being mysterious, ambiguous, and unknown. The existence of this clear, precise, and uniformed version is denied. The inseparable part of the research is questioning postmodern premises such as the final doubt considering the (re)presentation of a story, truth, and the past (both individual and collective), which influence the choices made while trying to narrate the tragic story of the 20th century.Izdavanje ovog zbornika podržalo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije
