The reflection of the past and poetics of postmemory

The work will primarily deal with the poetics of post-memory in the novel "The Lost: A Search for Six of Six Million" by Daniel Mendelsohn as well as how the aforementioned post-memory is used to instil the reflection of the past (specifically of the Holocaust) in the mind of the very author and the other characters. In the paper we dealt with the following aspects of post-memory as such: the narrative of return, photography, the sexual humiliation of the victims (the pornographic dimension of the perpetrator/victim relationship), the Holocaust family romance, post-memory in the service of identity purposes and the concept of post-memory through the motifs of kitchen and food. As the secondary literature, we will make use of Marianne Hirsch's work "The Generation of Post memory: Writing and Visual Culture After the Holocaust". The analysis has shown that the lives of the descendants of those who perished in the Holocaust (or those who suffered through it) are sometimes in great measure shaped by remembrance and trauma of the ancestors: what is more, those descendants are often prone to make a journey in order to find the answers and make a peace with the past

U okviru niza događaja posvećenih pitanju proučavanja Holokausta u susednim zemljama, ShoahLab je oranizovao predavanje pod naslovom „Hrvatska i Holokaust“. U prvom delu predavanja istoričar Lovro Kralj je govorio o pitanju proučavanja Holokausta u Hrvatskoj, i pružio kratki istoriografski pregled razvoja istraživanja fašizma, Holokausta i drugih genocida u Hrvatskoj. U drugom delu predavanja istoričarka Sanja Simper predstavila je svoju knjigu „Židovi u Rijeci i liburnijskoj Istri u svjetlu fašističkog anti-semitizma (1938.-1943.)“. Knjiga je rezultat temeljnog arhivskog istraživanja i govori o položaju i stradanju Jevreja iz Rijeke i Kvarnera pod italijanskom fašističkom vlašću.As part of a series of events devoted to the issue of studying the Holocaust in neighbouring countries, ShoahLab organized a lecture entitled "Croatia and the Holocaust." In the first part of the lecture, historian Lovro Kralj spoke about the issue of studying the Holocaust in Croatia and provided a brief historiographical overview of the development of research into fascism, the Holocaust and other genocides in Croatia. The lecture also identified neglected topics and trends in modern historiography that were not applied to the topic of the Holocaust in the region. In the second part of the lecture, historian Sanja Simper presented her book "Jews in Rijeka and Liburnian Istria in the Light of Fascist Anti-Semitism (1938-1943)". The book is the result of thorough archival research and talks about the position and suffering of Jews from Rijeka and Kvarner under Italian fascist rule.Događaj u organizaciji ShoahLab: Laboratorija za izučavanje Holokausta IFDT (ShoahLab event: IFDT Holocaust Research Laboratory).Predavanje održano 27. septembra 2022. godine preko Zoom platforme od 17 do 19 časova, (the lecture was held on September 27, 2022, via the Zoom platform from 5 to 7 p.m.).Trajanje 1:53:53 minuta (duration 1:53:53 minutes)YouTube link [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ij9SJYL3FI&list=PLxYbh6oD_DS2QDilhLI_NziJWYyq8mfac&index=6&t=106s

U Muzeju naivne umetnosti „Ilijanum“ Šid, povodom Dana evropske baštine priređena je izložba pod naslovom „Od prstena do slike: jevrejska zajednica u Šidu kroz prizmu arheologije, istorije i istorije umetnosti”, autora Radovana Sremca. In the Museum of Naive Art "Ilianum" Šid, on the occasion of European Heritage Day, an exhibition entitled "From a ring to a painting: the Jewish community in Šid through the prism of archaeology, history and art history" was organized by Radovan Sremac. This is the second exhibition in the "Ilijanum" museum by the author Radovan Sremac, which has Jewish content. The first exhibition "The thread that binds us" was in 2019. The Museum of naive art "Ilijanum" Šid was founded as a legacy of Ilija Bašičević Bosilj, one of the world's most important naive and self-taught artists. According to his wishes, the legacy was placed in the house of the Jewish family Winterstein, who perished in the Holocaust. In their yard, there was a synagogue until 1942. This is the reason why the hosts of the exhibition decided to include this content in this year's European Heritage Days event commemorating their "hosts", the Winterstein family, and the entire community to which they belonged.Prilog o otvaranju izložbe emitovan na Kopernikus televiziji TV K::CN (report on the opening of the exhibition broadcast on Copernicus television, TV K::CN). The Jews and the making of the atomic bomb

During the Holocaust, some Jews managed to immigrate to the USA. Most of the Jewish German scientists were left without jobs, laboratory facilities or even citizenship. They had to seek refuge in other European countries - such as England. Many of them settled in the United States. Jewish scientists in other Central European countries occupied by Germany - such as Austria - had a similar fate. Several of these refugees were the world's top physicists, and the US government employed many to work on the Manhattan Project - a military research project to build the first atomic bomb. These refugees played key roles in the success of the project, including Hans Bethe, Leo Szilard and Joseph Rothblatt.Predavanje održano 4. novembra 2022. godine preko Zoom platforme (Zoom Šabat) sa početkom u 19.30 časova. The lecture was held on November 4, 2022, via the Zoom platform (Zoom Shabbat) starting at 7:30 p.m

"Aryan paragraph" and theories of race in Serbia during the World War II

Based on the material of the Historical Archive of Sumadija and on the basis of relevant Serbian sources and literature, this paper is a comparative history of the "Aryan paragraph" and anti-Semitic normative act, on the territory of Nazi Germany and Serbia before and during the Second World War. The paper also presents the history of racial theories in this area, and how it came about that Serbian intellectuals close to the collaborationist regime consider Serbs to be an "Aryan race" It will be shown that the collaborationist state administration, under pressure from the German occupation forces, introduced anti-Semitic laws and other regulations, similar to German anti-Semitic laws and regulations, such as the Aryan certificate, which inspired the segregation, persecution and murder of Jews and Romani (Gypsies) in Serbia. The Serbian civil/cultural plan created within the Ministry of Education of the government of Milan Nedic in its biological part is a product of the ideology of Serbian conservatives, rightists and national chauvinists who believed that Serbia must regulate its so-called "biological space" and perform "careful protection of its blood". In their opinion, Serbs are superior to other peoples who lived on the territory of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia because of their racial origins prone to statehood

After 70 years, the testimony of Dr Andrej Deak titled "Under the Yellow Tape" was again in front of the readers. It has been waiting for a long, unfair, forgotten and neglected time to find its way to the readership again, to convey with living words and personal testimony all the horrors that the author and his family went through during the years of occupation in 1941-44. This edition is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the bloody tragedy - the Raid in southern Bačka. It will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on the lives of tens of thousands of residents of Bačka, an event that extinguished thousands of lives of those whose only fault was that they were of a different religion, nation and personal beliefs. The author and his family went through the Golgotha. A tragedy and an experience that will forever be in his consciousness and that will shape the memories conveyed in this book..."Publikacija je štampana u okviru projekta „Zastave naših očeva“ koje je finansijski podržalo Ministarstvo za rad, zapošljavanje, boračka i socijalna pitanja - Sektor za boračko-invalidsku zaštitu (the publication was printed as part of the "Flags of our Fathers" project, which was financially supported by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs - Sector for Veterans and Disability Protection)

How to narrate the Holocaust (on film)? From history to communication

    No full text
Although all media forms meet unique problems in (re)presenting the Holocaust, Jacques Ransier's view that film history is the history of the power to create history rightly indicates that film art faces special ethical and artistic challenges in representing the Shoah. This study will present the history of the Holocaust narrative on the axis of four key concepts of post-Holocaust discourse: history, memory, representation, and communication. The history segment focuses on what the Holocaust is; in the segment concerning memory we will discuss the issue of “who does it belong, who should or should not talk about it”; in the part about representation, our discussion will consider the main challenges of the question “How to speak about the Holocaust?” and why we are still talking about the Holocaust, almost 80 years after the event. Finally, through the segment referring to communications, we will point out the approach for the analysis of narratives and discourses about the Holocaust, the goal of which is a better understanding of the narratives themselves and the motives for their creation. The interpretation of these discourses will be conducted through cultural analysis and presentation of examples from key film achievements on the topic of the Holocaust: Night and Fog, Alan Resnai, Claude Lanzmann’s Shoah, CBS and NBS TV series Holocaust and adaptations of The Diary of Anne Frank

Trauma drugih!? Jugoslovenski filmovi o Holokaustu iz 1960-ih godina

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to map the reconfiguration and displacement of the emerging trauma of the Holocaust in the cinematic narratives of SFR Yugoslavia. The analysis of three nearly forgotten Yugoslav films of the 1960s - Killer on Leave (Mörder auf Urlaub/Ubica na odsustvu/Ubica je došao iz prošlosti, 1965, Boško Bošković), Witness Out of Hell (Bittere Kräuter/Gorke trave, 1966, Žika Mitrović) and Smoke (Dim, 1967, Slobodan Kosovalić) - follows Kansteiner’s thesis about the changes of Holocaust memorial narratives in the films shown on German television in the 1970s. Accordingly, I claim that the analyzed films position the trauma of the Holocaust as a crime committed by others, over there, and then in the past. Further, they broaden the trauma to accommodate the diversified roles of victims, perpetrators, witnesses and bystanders, and help the Germans (and other Europeans as well) come to terms with the Nazi criminal legacy and their own role. The co-productional terms allow the films to balance the memory of the Holocaust as both anti-fascist (East Germany) and cosmopolitan, multidirectional (West Germany) within the real Yugoslav/German symbolic narrative space and its intrinsic poetics (e.g., memorialization and sacralization).Cilj ovog rada je da mapira rekonfiguraciju i izmeštanje traume Holokausta u nastajanju u kinematografskim narativima SFR Jugoslavije.
