The Holocaust on the territory of today's Republic of North Macedonia
Prof. dr Mišo Dokmanović's lecture "The Holocaust on the territory of today's Republic of North Macedonia" is the third lecture of the second course entitled "The Holocaust in Yugoslavia, with a focus on the territory of Serbia and North Macedonia", which is being realised within the project "Holocaust in the countries of the former Yugoslavia". This project is the first of its kind in the region and aims to deepen understanding of the Holocaust within the former Yugoslavia, encourage critical thinking, promote tolerance and empathy, and emphasise the ongoing importance of education about the Holocaust in the area. The project includes four online courses, each with three lectures, and one six-day live seminar, organised after the end of the fourth course in Belgrade and Skopje. All courses, as well as the seminar, address the topic of the Holocaust and anti-Semitism in the former Yugoslav territory. Each of the four online courses provides valuable general knowledge from the specified thematic frameworks, with a particular focus on certain parts of the region and their experiences of the Holocaust. Holocaust in Novi Sad
„Holokaust u Novom Sadu” je publikacija koja predstavlja Holokaust u Bačkoj, i posebno u Novom Sadu, fokusirajući se na stradanja novosadske jevrejske porodice Rip.The Holocaust was Nazi Germany's systematic, state-sponsored persecution and killing of Jews from 1933 to 1945. All of this was accomplished with the help of other fascist nationalist regimes and various local collaborators who assisted the Germans or directly participated in the Holocaust's execution. Nazi Germany's ideology was based on racist anti-Semitism and a vision of a new world order and living space for the German people. The extermination of Jews became not only a tool for the Third Reich but also the purpose and meaning of its existence. The Holocaust is a crime without precedent in history because it was carried out with the full support of a powerful and modern German state. During World War II, the Holocaust claimed the lives of 4,350 Jews from Novi Sad. 3,020 people, or 70% of the Jewish community in Novi Sad, were killed. The publication "Holocaust in Novi Sad" explores the Holocaust in Bačka, particularly in Novi Sad, with a focus on the suffering of the Jewish Rip family

Oscar Neumann
The project of the “Mladost” Primary School in Osijek began a few years ago with research on the life and work of the renowned Osijek-born sculptor of Jewish origin, Oscar Nemon. The project involved teachers of history, art, English, religious education, and the school cooperative. Over time, the research expanded to include other notable Jews from the Osijek region, with students actively participating in various activities dedicated to preserving Jewish cultural heritage. They took part in the ceremony of placing a Stolperstein in memory of Đakovo-born Ruben Frank and attended the presentation of the title Righteous Among the Nations to members of the Kamilo Firinger family. The catalogue of student works, compiled over three years by teachers Marijeta and Roko, presents the outcomes of students’ engagement and their reflections on what they have learnt. Each year, the school participates in the European Days of Jewish Culture and organises its own Jewish Culture Week, creating a space for education, remembrance, and intercultural dialogue
U ovom radu biće analiziran roman “Slučaj Kolini” savremenog nemačkog pisca Ferdinanda fon Širaha u kontekstu složenog odnosa između zakona i etike, odnosno prava i pravde.
Pseudo-medical experiments in Nazi Germany and concentration camps. Doctors from hell
Eugenika se može još definisati i kao „primena zakona nasleđivanja radi poboljšanja fizičkih i psihičkih karakteristika živih bića, a posebno ljudi”.This publication will try to explain several topics, all of which are related to Nazism, the Holocaust and
pseudo-medical experiments on Jews, Roma, Slavs and other targeted racial groups in Nazi concentration camps. It will also try to put the light on the misuse of eugenics in brutal and criminal ways and acts against humanity in the Third Reich and the severity of the implementation of the Nuremberg Racial Laws. How and why did Nazi medical doctors differ with their strong and fanatical commitments to racial research from medical doctors in other countries and other contexts? Under Nazism, one discerns a readiness to coldly exploit children and adults for research when they came from targeted racial groups. The numbers of experiments increased as the Holocaust intensified. This was combined with indifference to the fate of the children, as they became disposable items for many researchers. In the context of the Holocaust, severely disabled and mentally disturbed children, along with Roma, Jewish and Slavic children, were subjected to the cruellest and most unnecessary treatments in the name of science and progress. This paper will try to clarify the facts of easy and unlimited access of these monstrous inhuman doctors to these vulnerable and helpless human beings, especially children but also adults, and their brutality and evil in their acts and in experiments they were conducting, and also to clarify that most of these devils in white uniforms didn’t have the slightest drop of mercy and humanity in their deformed minds. Now, there is also the ethical dilemma. This publication also addresses the serious ethical and moral problems of using data from experiments on patients who were murdered and tortured by the Nazis in the name of „research” and science. In particular this publication will address the scientific validity of the experiments, the medical competence of the experimenters, the ethical dilemmas and morality
“Stolpersteine”- global intangible memorialization
The artistic project "Stolpersteine" by German artist Gunter Demnig consists of brass-plated cobblestones installed at the entrances of former homes of victims of National Socialism. This initiative, which began in 1993, is both an artistic and commemorative act and has experienced significant expansion across Europe since the early 2000s. At once visible and invisible in the urban space (they are set into sidewalks without explicit markers), the "Stolpersteine" reterritorialize victims by associating them with their last known address and create a superimposition of past and present. The very location of these stones aims to embed memory within the urban landscape and, for families deprived of graves, to serve symbolically as a burial site and a place for remembrance. Demnig’s work is both memorial and educational: it does not differentiate between the forms of persecution but highlights the importance and uniqueness of each victim of Nazism, not to oppose them but to integrate them into local history. Furthermore, the choice of public space - the sidewalk - reminds passers-by of this memory in their daily lives, in a way considered more tangible and personal than memorials that are easily overlooke
Holocaust, memory, culture. (4)
Pod pokroviteljstvom Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany), Centar za studije sećanja Univerziteta u Kragujevcu akademske 2021/2022. godine pokrenuo je Studije Holokausta - prve studije usmerene ka sistematskom i interdisciplinarnom izučavanju Holokausta u našoj zemlji. Time se zaokružuje jedan važan ciklus u istoriji Univerziteta u Kragujevcu i domaćeg akademskog prostora u celini. Under the support of the Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany), the Center for Memory Studies of the University of Kragujevac launched Holocaust Studies in the 2021/2022 academic year - the first programme in our country dedicated to the systematic and interdisciplinary study of the Holocaust. From its very inception, the programme was recognised for its topical relevance, strong scholarly foundation, and the high level of interest shown by students at various levels of study, as well as by the general public. In its fourth year of implementation (the 2024/2025 academic year), Holocaust Studies continued through a series of courses which, as in previous years, enabled students to become acquainted with the key historical, cultural, and theoretical aspects of the Holocaust. This year is particularly significant, as it marks the final year in which lectures within the programme were held. In this way, an important cycle in the history of the University of Kragujevac and the domestic academic landscape as a whole has been brought to a close. During this year, 48 participants attended courses and sat for examinations in various modules, which represents a significant indicator of sustained interest in this field and of the willingness of young researchers to engage with one of the most important topics in European and world history. As in previous editions, this fourth volume, entitled Holocaust, Memory, Culture (IV), brings together student papers produced within the framework of the Holocaust Studies courses. The papers are the result of the students’ own research interests, developed under the mentorship of their professors, and they testify to the diversity of approaches and the thoroughness with which topics related to the Holocaust, the culture of memory, and their contemporary interpretations have been addressed. This volume also includes a contribution by Mara Dragin, a seventh-grade student, whose participation is of particular importance as it demonstrates that interest in the culture of memory and in understanding the significance of historical processes extends beyond academic boundaries and becomes part of the broader community. Her engagement in the study of the Holocaust encourages the raising of awareness among her peers and affirms the culture of memory as a fundamental societal approach to understanding the past.Prema Predgovoru, publikacija sadrži studentske radove nastale u okviru različitih kurseva Centra za studije sećanja Univerziteta u Kragujevcu akademske 2024/2025. godine (according to the Preface, the publication contains student works produced as part of various courses of the University of Kragujevac Center for Memory Studies during the academic year 2024/2025)
