"Ordo pigdendi, ordo occidenti": iconoclasm, Hitler and the revision of the Holocaust
Holocaust Industry? The (American) Debate on the Instrumentalization of the Shoah at the Turn of the Century
normativizacije i mehanizacije - u zapadnim društvima - i kritike tog procesa. In three books published at the turn of the millennium, the authors talk about the phenomenon of the pronounced presence and significance of the Holocaust in American society: Hilene Flanzbaum’s Americanization of the Holocaust (1999), Peter Novick’s Holocaust in American Life (1999) and Norman Finkelstein’s The Holocaust Industry: Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering (2000). These works describe (and criticize) the post-Holocaust memorial world which is characterized by the commodification, commercialization and instrumentalization of the culture of remembrance. Even though each of these authors invoked/understood the term differently, the effect of their works was the introduction of the term „Holocaust industry“ into the public discourse. Today, it has become an umbrella metaphor for a whole range of practices that represent the instrumentalization, commercialization and commodification of Holocaust remembrance. The paper deals with the process of (political-economic) instrumentalization of the Holocaust, its normalization, naturalization, normativization and mechanization - in Western societies - and criticism of that process. The paper aims to shed light on what is meant by the Holocaust industry and to open space for further reflection and problematization of the

In this book, we remember the names of ninety-three people from Novi Sad, of Jews who from 1941 to 1945 bravely resisted the Hungarian, German, and in some cases Italian occupiers, as well as domestic traitors, collaborators of the occupying forces, and lost their lives in that struggle. The names of those heroes are carved into a granite monument placed in the courtyard of the Novi Sad synagogue. Since the end of the Second World War, which is the subject of a limited testimony here, 80 years have passed. Data and testimonies about the participants of that, by now bygone war, are slowly being lost, are slowly fading, disappearing. Regarding some of the participants, quite a lot of reliable data can be found, whereas for some of them, only scant data are available: first name, year of birth, and year of death, or just the year of death; for a few others, not even that. Although in compiling the list and adding short biographies, we have limited ourselves to the participants in the war from the Jewish community who were born in Novi Sad or its surroundings, we cannot be sure that all the fallen insurgents can be accounted for. Deo teksta na srpskom, engleskom i hebrejskom jeziku (part of the text in Serbian, English and Hebrew)

Stories from the Temple - the exibition ambience
The exhibition „Stories from the Temple: the metamorphosis of the Temple through space and Time“ was primarily conceived and presented on 15 panels. The panels contained photographs and texts that were double-sided. On the front side of the billboard, the text is in Bosnian, and the same content is in English on the other side. Each stop on the journey through time and space of the Temple is told through photographs, documents, newspaper articles and testimonies. The journey through time starts from the first idea of building the Temple, through its destruction in World War II and its conversion during the period of socialism, as well as the siege of Sarajevo and revitalization in the post-war period, until modern times. Panels were placed in the atrium and main gallery of the Bosnian Cultural Center and at the entrance to the main hall of the former synagogue. This hall is a cinema and a place for cultural programs and performances. At the entrance to the main hall of the BKC (Temple) on the first floor, a large photo with the original appearance of the interior of the former synagogue was displayed over the entire front glass door.Izložba održana od 1 do 30. juna 2023. godine u Bosanskom kulturnom centru u Sarajevu (the exhibition was held from June 1 to June 30, 2023, at the Bosnian Cultural Center in Sarajevo).Link na katalog izložbe (Link to the exhibition catalogue) [https://www.jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/2573]Link na izložbene panele: [https://jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/2593]Link to exhibition panels: [https://jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/2594

Dugogodišnji urednik Glasnika Darko Fischer donosi izvještaj o izložbi slika Petera Weisza, a prof. dr. sc. Zlata Živaković-Kerže vrijedan i informativan tekst o židovskim čitaonicama u međuratnom Osijeku. This issue of Glasnik is dedicated to the recently deceased writer David Albahari, written about by two people who knew him personally, Aron Albahari (who is not related to him!) and Biljana Majnik ex Papo. We also present Marinko Plazibat’s interview with David Albahari, conducted around 1989, and originally published in 1991 in the magazine “Rijek”. It is interesting to see what topics this conversation, conducted over thirty years ago, focuses on, as well as David Albahari’s replies. Glasnik’s longtime editor Darko Fischer reports on the exhibition of paintings by Peter Weisz, and Prof. Dr. Sc. Zlata Živaković-Kerže valuable and informative text about Jewish reading rooms in interwar Osijek.Tema broja: Preko granice - David Albahari (the theme of this issue: Over the border - David Albahari).Časopis "Glasnik B'nai B'rith", Hrvatska dostupan je na Internet stranici [https://www.bnaibrith.hr]The Magazine "The Voice of B’nai B’rith", Croatia is available on the website [https://www.bnaibrith.hr

Spasio me transport koji nisam uspela da izbegnem
In five books, "We Survived: Yugoslav Jews on the Holocaust" (three of them translated into English), the testimonies of a small number of surviving members of the Jewish community about World War II were collected. The peculiarity of the circumstances in which the entire population of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was found is reflected in the fact that at the beginning of the war, the country was occupied by five invaders: Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Albania and the fascist satellite formation, the so-called. The Independent State of Croatia. These circumstances also led to different ways of surviving and rescuing Jews from these areas. The Jewish Historical Museum of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia / Serbia published these books with the help of donations and volunteer work of the editorial board in which seven of nine members survived the Holocaust. These books are an extraordinary collection of tragic and dramatic experiences about unique choices - the struggle for life, dignity, and freedom in partisans; about concentration camps, about refugee life under constant threat, about help and friendships. They are also a good basis for exploring the Holocaust and the history of Jews from the former Yugoslavia. Each testimony is enriched with a series of photographs and together with the text, they make unique documentation material. As the suffering of Jews on the territory of the former Yugoslavia is poorly known to the general public, these books have the task of filling that space. They thus become a memorial for all the victims whose many names are found only in memory. One of those memories is "I was saved by a transport which I could not avoid" by Dina Remer
How Jews think: records from a teacher's notebook
Autorka knjige nam kroz više poglavlja govori o svom doživljaju sebe kao učiteljice, pre svega jevrejske učiteljice. Kao osobe koja podučava druge. Ona kroz lični doživljaj govori i o brojnim drugim temama. O trideset godina postojanja, rada i gašenja udruženja Hrvatsko-izraelskog društva; o Mihaelu Montilju - članu Židovske općine Zagreb i prvom dugogodišnjem predsjedniku pomenutog Udruženja. Through several chapters, the book's author tells us about her experience as a teacher, primarily a Jewish teacher. As a person who teaches others. Through her personal experience, she also talks about numerous other topics. About thirty years of existence, work and closure of the association of the Croatian-Israeli Society; about Mihael Montiljo - a Jewish Community of Zagreb member and the first long-term president of that Association. In this book he tells us and teaches us about Judaism as a religion, culture, the people of Israel, a way of life; about fundamental biblical texts in theory and practice; about the most brilliant crown - the crown of the Torah and the great Jewish scholars and interpreters; Haggadah - or how the Jews became a Nation; the science of the mystical essence of God and his creation; Kabbalah; the word Amen ... and of other primarily religious topics
