Povratak sa puta bez nade
In five books, "We Survived: Yugoslav Jews on the Holocaust" (three of them translated into English), the testimonies of a small number of surviving members of the Jewish community about World War II were collected. The peculiarity of the circumstances in which the entire population of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was found is reflected in the fact that at the beginning of the war, the country was occupied by five invaders: Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Albania and the fascist satellite formation, the so-called. The Independent State of Croatia. These circumstances also led to different ways of surviving and rescuing Jews from these areas. The Jewish Historical Museum of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia / Serbia published these books with the help of donations and volunteer work of the editorial board in which seven of nine members survived the Holocaust. These books are an extraordinary collection of tragic and dramatic experiences about unique choices - the struggle for life, dignity, and freedom in partisans; about concentration camps, about refugee life under constant threat, about help and friendships. They are also a good basis for exploring the Holocaust and the history of Jews from the former Yugoslavia. Each testimony is enriched with a series of photographs and together with the text, they make unique documentation material. As the suffering of Jews on the territory of the former Yugoslavia is poorly known to the general public, these books have the task of filling that space. They thus become a memorial for all the victims whose many names are found only in memory. One of those memories is "Return from a hopeless journey" by Jelena Viculin

Jews and other ethnic communities and anti-Semitic phenomena in Shtip in the period between 1919 and 1943
In this article we will look at the relationship between the Jews and other ethnic communities in Shtip as well as the penetration of the Bulgarian army into Macedonia, the establishment of the Bulgarian administrative apparatus, and the implementation of the anti-Semitic legislation. Practically, although the Jews lived in a city with a mixed ethnic composition and had daily communication with other communities, they still acted in their microenvironment and thus stood out from the environment. It was these differences that encouraged stereotypes and anti-Semitic phenomena in Shtip, because practically the relations between Jews on the one hand, and Macedonians, Turks, and Roma, on the other hand, can be defined as "both separately and together". In the section that will be dedicated to the deportation of the Jews, the cases of hiring people who were loyal to the Bulgarian authorities during the confiscation of Jewish property will be indicated.U ovom članku ćemo razmotriti odnos Jevreja i ostalih etničkih zajednica u Štipu u periodu između 1919. i 1943. godine, kao i prodor bugarske vojske u Makedoniju, uspostavljanje bugarskog administrativnog aparata i sprovođenja antisemitskih zakona. Tema konferencije nosila je naziv "Makedonija krstopat na epohi, civilizacii i kulturi" (the work was presented at the international scientific conference held on November 23, 2023, at the Institute of History and Archeology at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of Goce Delčev University in Štip. The theme of the conference was "Macedonian crossroads in the era, civilization and culture")
Halstenwall as a sociopolitical allegory of Weimar Germany in Wiene's film "The cabinet of dr. Caligari"
Film “Kabinet doktora Kaligarija” putem konfiguracije imaginarnog grada Holstenvila raskriva psihosocijalne kontradikcije unutar nemačke kulture, kao svojevrsna umetnička refleksija Vajmarske Nemačke. Konvencije žanra, narativna struktura filma, osvetljenje, scenografija, gluma, odabir muških i ženskih likova, psihološke i socijalne situacije kongruiraju sa ideološkom i istorijskom paradigmom tadašnje Nemačke. Praveći neobične preseke žanra, Vine uvodi i estetskopolitički kontekst pored istorijskog i psihološkog. Film prikazuje upliv avangardne umetnosti u politički i kulturni život i reprezentuje revidiranje realističke estetike, u kojem distrakcija i distorzija postaju povodi za ispitivanje delovanja masovne kulture kao prostora ideoloških prećutkivanja. The film "The cabinet of Dr Caligari" through the configuration of the imaginary town Halstenwall decrypts psychosocial contradictions within the German culture, as a form of artistic reflection of Weimar Germany. Conventions of the genre, the narrative structure of the film, lightning, scenography, acting, and selection of male and female actors, psychological and social situations agree with the ideological and historical paradigm of Germany of that time. By making an unusual cross-section of the genre, Wiene introduces also aesthetic-political context, next to historical and psychological. The film displays the influence of avant-garde art in political and cultural life and represents a revision of realism's aesthetic, in which, distraction and distortion become motives to research the activity of mass culture as a space of ideological cover-ups.Zbornik je rezultat istraživanja u okviru Studija Holokausta koje se pod pokrovitelјstvom Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany) izvode na Univerzitetu u Kragujevcu. The collection of papers is the result of research within Holocaust Studies, which are conducted at the University of Kragujevac under the support of the Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany)
Stories from the Temple: metamorphosis of the Temple through space and time
The exhibition "Stories from the Temple: metamorphosis of the Temple through space and Time" brings historiographic reminiscences about the temple and the city, showing that time and space are not (only) physical dimensions, but emotional, spiritual and symbolic too. Each stop on the journey through time and space of the temple is told through photographs, documents, newspaper articles and testimonies: the journey through time starts from the first idea of building the temple, through its destruction in World War II and its conversion during the period of socialism, as well as the siege of Sarajevo and revitalization in the post-war period, until modern times.Izložba održana od 1 do 30. juna 2023. godine u Bosanskom kulturnom centru u Sarajevu (the exhibition was held from June 1 to June 30, 2023, at the Bosnian Cultural Center in Sarajevo).Link na izložbene panele: [https://jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/2593]Link to exhibition panels: [https://jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/2594]Link na postavku i ambijent izložbe (link to the exhibition's setting and ambience): [https://jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/2595
An atheist religious Community: Jewish national and cultural identity in socialist Yugoslavia
This article represents an analysis of the understanding of self-identity among Yugoslav Jews after World War II. The main research issues are: 1. The changes of collective identity that were studied through the transformation of Jewish self-perception from religious to national at the turn from the 1940s to the 1950s; 2. How do the Jews as individuals understand their cultural and national identity? This topic was researched based on memoirs, diaries and interviews of prominent Jews, especially Jewish writers from Yugoslavia. 3. The Question of usage and frequency of terms Jevrej (Hebrew) and Židov (Jew) among the Yugoslav Jewish citizens
One hundred and fifty years of Geca Kon [documentary film]
Štampao je sabrana dela najpoznatijih književnika svoga doba: „Istoriju Srba“ Konstantika Jiričeka, „Karakterologiju Jugoslovena“ Dvornikovića, „Balkansko poluostrvo“ Jovana Cvijića i enciklopedijsko izdanje „Srpski narod u devetnaestom veku“. Oko njega se okupljaju istaknuti književnici i drugi intelektualci tog doba: Slobodan Jovanović, Branislav Nušić, Andra Gavrilović, Jaša Prodanović, Božidar Kovačević, Miloš Crnjanski i drugi. The premiere of the documentary film about Geca Kon (August 2, 1873-1941), by Mento Mentović, was performed on December 23, 2023, at the Jewish Cultural Center in Belgrade. The film refers to the life and work of this well-known and admitted Belgrade, Serbian and Yugoslav publisher and bookseller who opened his first bookstore in Belgrade in 1901. While working at the bookstore, he also parallel started publishing. He first published works in the fields of law, social sciences and literature, as well as university and school textbooks. He was the initiator of several editions. The most significant are the children's editions "The Golden Book" and "The Blue Bird", the library of old books "Pleiade" and the philosophical library "Caryatids". He printed the collected works of the most famous writers of his time: "History of the Serbs" by Konstantin Jiriček, "Characteristics of the Yugoslavs" by Vladimir Dvorniković, "Balkan Peninsula" by Jovan Cvijić and the encyclopedic edition "Serbian People in the Nineteenth Century". In the period between the two world wars, he published over 5,000 different titles and thus became the largest publisher in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. His bookshop became a meeting and gathering place for prominent writers and intellectuals of that period. Many writers and intellectuals of that time - Slobodan Jovanović, Branislav Nušić, Andra Gavrilović, Jaša Prodanović, Božidar Kovačević, Miloš Crnjanski and others gathered around him. During forty years of his dedicated work, he improved the Serbian book and publishing industry by following modern European trends. In 1941, he and his family were arrested and killed by the German occupiers. Geca Kon's publishing house and bookshop in Belgrade, as a place connected with the personality and activities of one of the most important cultural and educational labourers and a gathering place for the leading intellectuals of that time, is a strong testimony of the rise of the cultural and social life of Belgrade between the two world wars. This place was declared a cultural monument in 2009.Film je dostupan i preko YouTube kanala (the film is also available through the YouTube channel): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arsW9k7xhuI]Povodom obeležavanja 150 godina od rođenja Gece Kona, izdavača i knjižara, koji je imao važnu ulogu u oblikovanju jugoslovenske kulture i obrazovanja u periodu između dva svetska rata, u subotu 23. decembra, od 19:00 časova, u Jevrejskom kulturnom centru, održana je premijera dokumentarnog filma „150 godina Gece Kona“, autora Mente Mentovića.
