Dugo putovanje do luke spasa
In five books, "We Survived: Yugoslav Jews on the Holocaust" (three of them translated into English), the testimonies of a small number of surviving members of the Jewish community about World War II were collected. The peculiarity of the circumstances in which the entire population of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was found is reflected in the fact that at the beginning of the war, the country was occupied by five invaders: Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Albania and the fascist satellite formation, the so-called. The Independent State of Croatia. These circumstances also led to different ways of surviving and rescuing Jews from these areas. The Jewish Historical Museum of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia / Serbia published these books with the help of donations and volunteer work of the editorial board in which seven of nine members survived the Holocaust. These books are an extraordinary collection of tragic and dramatic experiences about unique choices - the struggle for life, dignity, and freedom in partisans; about concentration camps, about refugee life under constant threat, about help and friendships. They are also a good basis for exploring the Holocaust and the history of Jews from the former Yugoslavia. Each testimony is enriched with a series of photographs and together with the text, they make unique documentation material. As the suffering of Jews on the territory of the former Yugoslavia is poorly known to the general public, these books have the task of filling that space. They thus become a memorial for all the victims whose many names are found only in memory. One of those memories is "A long journey to the port of salvation" by Stela Švarc

The Liebermans: novel
The manuscript of the novel "Libermanovi" was included in the shortlist for the Dereta Literary Prize and won the second prize at the 65th competition for unpublished manuscripts with Jewish themes of the Association of Jewish Communities of Serbia for 2022. Like Andrić's prose, Lebrecht's novel provides a spectrum of observations about human beings and non-being. The book "The Liebermans" raises key questions nowadays, questions of guilt and personal responsibility in the relationship between executioner and victim, questions of collective memory and forgiveness, and physical and spiritual exiles, which can classify it in the category of so-called Engaged literature. Although the story, the related plot, is guided spirally from general to individual facts, mostly reduced to German crimes against Jews and other peoples in the Second World War, the novel gets a more universal framework than the plot itself, so the main heroine of the book is perceived as authentic by gesture and act contemporary Antigone.Gaspar Lebrecht je pseudonim Živojina Ivkovića.Ovaj roman je 2022. godine na 65. nagradnom konkursu Saveza jevrejskih opština Srbije, dobio drugu nagradu za neobjavljeni rukopis sa jevrejskim temama (in 2022 this novel won the second prize for an unpublished manuscript with Jewish themes at the 65th award competition of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia).Biblioteka Vertikale / Udruženje nezavisnih pisaca Srbije.
Through the discovery of the reasons and circumstances that led to the filming of the films about the Independent State of Croatia (ISC) and the system of concentration and death camps in Jasenovac - Occupation in 26 pictures, Blood and Ashes of Jasenovac and Sunset of the Century/Testament L. Z. - interlocutors discuss the timeless themes which inspire artists in their search for answers. In particular, the theme of human evil - described through the conversation as a killing fervour - was not only a strong incentive for the director to research the genocide against Serbs and Jews committed in the ISC, but also a serious challenge when trying to screen it and show it, first in socialist Yugoslavia, and then also in Croatia.
Laura Papo Bohoreta, guardian of the Sephardic tradition [final master's thesis]
In this paper, we will present the work of Laura Papo Bohoreta, a Sephardic writer who was one of the most important representatives and guardians of the Sephardic tradition in this area. Despite this, her works are poorly known because they were written in the Jewish-Spanish language. That's why we will try to bring readers closer to the specifics of the Sephardic community in BiH and Bohoreta's writing. As a writer, she had two intentions: to preserve the cultural heritage of her people and to enlighten the Sephardi community with her progressive ideas. Female characters form the pillar of her literary creativity. She portrays the everyday life and position of Sephardic women in the society of that time, emphasising that education and work are imperatives in the life of a modern Sephardic woman. This paper aims to show, through the analysis of the theatre piece Esterka, how the process of emancipation of Sephardic women is presented on the example of a Sephardic family and to point out folklore elements and social messages.Ovaj magistarski rad predat je na Univerzitetu u Sarajevu, Filozofski fakultet, Odsjek za romanistiku, Katedra za francuski jezik i književnost (this master’s thesis was submitted to the University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Philosophy, Department of French language and literature
Jewish Heavy metal musicians
As part of the "Zoom Shabbat" activity, organized by the Jewish Community of Belgrade and the technical support of Raka-Rahamim Levi, on December 15, 2023, the guest and lecturer was Dr. Miloš Damjanović, a historian from Kosovska Mitrovica. The topic of his lecture and presentation was "Jewish Heavy Metal Musicians". In an excellent lecture, M. Damjanović first explained and presented this kind of music, which is a type of "aggressive music" based on the specific strength and intensity of musical expression. Also, the musicians themselves, the form they performed, and dressed, as well as the fans who followed and listened to this music were very recognizable in their image. Jews who were members of "Heavy Metal" music groups were mostly from the USA. In the presentation, Damjanović gave information about their origins and the families they came from. Each of them was presented visually with a photo and a very rich description of their professional and private life destinies. There was talk of dozens of these Jewish musicians, many from very well-known and popular heavy metal groups.Predavanje održano 15. decembra 2023. godine preko Zoom platforme (Zoom Šabat) sa početkom u 19.30 časova. The lecture was held on December 15, 2023, via the Zoom platform (Zoom Shabbat) starting at 7:30 p.m.Trajanje 1:06:25 minuta (duration 1:06:25 minutes).YouTube link: [tps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2KkuQOrPwM
Auschwitz and the struggle for survival in the novel "If this is a man" by Primo Levi?
In this paper, the daily struggle for life and the way of living in the Auschwitz concentration camp will be discussed in Primo Levi's work " If This Is a Man ". In Levi’s book, the main question is whether the life that was lived then can even be called a life. Our aim is to give an overview of living conditions in the camp, the transport to the camp, the selection process and the struggle for survival. Also, we shall include some scenes from the movies "Night and Fog" and "Son of Saul".Zbornik je rezultat istraživanja u okviru Studija Holokausta koje se pod pokrovitelјstvom Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany) izvode na Univerzitetu u Kragujevcu. The collection of papers is the result of research within Holocaust Studies, which are conducted at the University of Kragujevac under the support of the Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany)
(Non)dealing with the infamous past in the novel the "Reader" by Bernhard Schlink
In the example of the novel "The Reader" by the German author Bernhard Schlink, the paper perceives and analyzes how the characters deal or do not deal with the infamous Nazi past, with their guilt and the guilt of their predecessors. The paper describes various actions of acceptance or evasion of responsibility and guilt resorted to by the characters of the novel who were either direct participants in Nazi crimes during the Second World War or members of the post-war generations who gain knowledge and reflect on the difficult past they have to face. The work aims to indicate the necessity of dealing with the past to distinguish and understand the ways of facing and accepting one's own and collective guilt and responsibility.Zbornik je rezultat istraživanja u okviru Studija Holokausta koje se pod pokrovitelјstvom Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany) izvode na Univerzitetu u Kragujevcu. The collection of papers is the result of research within Holocaust Studies, which are conducted at the University of Kragujevac under the support of the Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany)
