Knjiga Ranka Radelića „O јamarima i zujanima...“ daje nam opšte istorijske informacije o pojedinim selima i krajevima istočne Bilogore u Slavoniji, u Hrvatskoj. Kako je za našu Jevrejsku digitalnu biblioteku, pored ostalog, važno i čuvanje uspomene o Jevrejima kroz svaki zapisani podatak o događajima i ljudima - pojedincima i porodicama, u ovom prikazu donosimo, pa makar i simbolične informacije o par jevrejskih porodica ovoga kraja datih u poglavlju ove knjige, pod naslovom „Cecilija“.Ranko Radelić's book gives us general historical information about certain villages and areas of eastern Bilogora in Slavonia, Croatia. Along with these data, the book gives a special overview of the fates of numerous persons and families of that region during the Second World War and the last war in 1991. For the Jewish digital library, among other things, it is important to preserve the memory of the Jews through every recorded information about events and people - individuals and families. In this presentation we bring, at least symbolic information about a couple of Jewish families of this region given in this book chapter under the title "Cecilia"

The Nazi legacy in the library: Eduard Pernkopf's "Atlas of topographical and applied human anatomy"

Završni deo rada posvećen je primerku knjige koji se nalazi u fondu UBSM.While it’s not uncommon for libraries around the world to possess Eduard Pernkopf’s "Atlas of Topographical and Applied Human Anatomy", the copy housed in the University Library "Svetozar Marković" (UBSM) in Belgrade holds a special significance. The UBSM acquired this book from the German Service for International Library Exchange (Deutsch-Ausländischer Buchtausch, abbreviated as DAB), a Nazi organization that emerged through the restructuring of the Prussian State Library. Its primary function was the dissemination of German culture and National Socialist propaganda. The initial part of this paper delves into the controversial history of Pernkopf’s monumental work, which represents an intricate intersection of science, art, and criminal ideology. This intersection raises moral concerns that are inextricably linked to its legacy. The concluding section of this paper is dedicated to the specific copy of the book within the UBSM collection. Prilog: Napomena korisniku "Atlasa topografske i primenjene ljudske anatomije" Eduarda Pernkopfa

Višejezične i višestruke manjine. Ko su balkanski Jevreji?

The documented history of Jews in the Balkans can be traced back to the early Middle Ages and has been studied by researchers from diverse perspectives. Undoubtedly, it is a vibrant, dynamic and tumultuous story, set at the crossroads of multiple intersecting cultures and social groups. Although the Second World War profoundly impacted the Jewish world, it did not bring about its end.

In five books, "We Survived: Yugoslav Jews on the Holocaust" (three of them translated into English), the testimonies of a small number of surviving members of the Jewish community about World War II were collected. The peculiarity of the circumstances in which the entire population of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was found is reflected in the fact that at the beginning of the war, the country was occupied by five invaders: Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Albania and the fascist satellite formation, the so-called. The Independent State of Croatia. These circumstances also led to different ways of surviving and rescuing Jews from these areas. The Jewish Historical Museum of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia / Serbia published these books with the help of donations and volunteer work of the editorial board in which seven of nine members survived the Holocaust. These books are an extraordinary collection of tragic and dramatic experiences about unique choices - the struggle for life, dignity, and freedom in partisans; about concentration camps, about refugee life under constant threat, about help and friendships. They are also a good basis for exploring the Holocaust and the history of Jews from the former Yugoslavia. Each testimony is enriched with a series of photographs and together with the text, they make unique documentation material. As the suffering of Jews on the territory of the former Yugoslavia is poorly known to the general public, these books have the task of filling that space. They thus become a memorial for all the victims whose many names are found only in memory. One of those memories is "Scars in the wounded heart" by Eva Đorđević

Wounds of children’s sufferings hurt the most - crimes against children in World War II and literary representation

    No full text
World War II was an unprecedented armed conflict because it was driven by the Nazi ideology, which, among the usual political and imperialistic goals, incorporated a racial element. The primary group for annihilation was the European Jews and all the Jews wherever they could be found. Children were not spared from this destiny and were killed together with their parents. At the same time, a parallel racial and religious war was raging on territories of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) in the occupied Kingdom of Yugoslavia, where another unprecedented element emerged – extermination camps for children. Thousands of children died separated. from their parents, who were mostly slaughtered during the offensive on Kozara mountain in 1942. Holocaust literature and literature about the Holocaust contain a significant number of narratives written by child survivors but also by those ‘secondarily traumatised’. Such a case is the English writer D. M. Thomas, who in his novel Pictures at an Exhibition incorporated true reports written by military priests and German officers in August 1941 concerning the case of the execution of a group of Jewish children left behind by their already killed parents in the Ukrainian village of Belaya Tserkov, which was not a regular Nazi modus operandi. Simultaneously, the Croatian Ustasha movement members, followers of an ideology that incorporated both Nazism and fascism but with the unique addition of clerical fascism, wreaked havoc on the Serbian population by means of many bestial and bloodthirsty ways of slaughtering women, elders, and children of any age. Both criminal acts are parts of separate but parallel genocides: against the Jews and against the Serbs. In Yugoslav literature of the camps there are many precious and significant accounts of children’s sufferings sufferingsprimarily written by Croatian political prisoners who survived. On the other hand, there are very few to no fictional narratives dealing with sufferings of both adults and children from NDH written by writers of Serbian origin. Using an example of literature about the Holocaust, this paper aims to show that writing about traumatic history is possible and that history and literature are two sides of the same medal of life which are not inseparable but crucial. in building a culture of remembrance
